With 7,2 million admissions, the most successful film in German cinemas released in 2013, even surpassing El Hobbit: La desolación de Smaug (2013).
The phrase "Fack ju" on the original title is a parody on bad grammar and phonetically identical to "Fuck you". Because of this, the franchise was denied a trademark in 2015, as the title was considered vulgar by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Constantin Film appealed this, and in 2020 the European Court of Justice (the supreme court of the European Union) ruled the assessment by EUIPO to be wrong.
The appearance of Uschi Glas as a despaired teacher adds additional fun for older audience members. When Glas started her acting career in the 1960s, she appeared as a pupil in the "Lümmel" films (e.g. Die Lümmel von der ersten Bank - 1. Trimester: Zur Hölle mit den Paukern (1968)) - basically the counterpart to her role in this movie.
Uschi Glas, who is playing one of the teachers in this movie, used to be in one of the "Pauker" movies from the 70s, in which students played pranks on teachers, similar to those in this movie, including "Immer Ärger mit den Paukern", the 1970s remake of "Die Feuerzangenbowle" and four movies from the series "Die Lümmel von der letzten Bank", where she played Marion Nietnagel. Also she played a hotel management school teacher in the movie "Hilfe, ich liebe Zwillinge" from 1969.
