The Lonely Man with the Ghost Machine

The mere title alone for this 2024 horror movie was more than sufficient for me to stop and take notice. And given my love of all things horror, combined with the fact that this was a movie that I had neither seen nor heard about, made me sit down to watch what writer and director Graham Skipper had to offer.

Now, I have to say that movies that are written by, directed by and starring the one and the same guy usually does raise a number of red flags for me, so I have to say that I didn't exactly harbor the biggest of expectations to this 2024 movie.

The storyline in the movie failed to entertain me, and I tossed the towel in the ring out of sheer and utter boredom when the audience was presented with the bucket scene. I was simply bored to tears at that point. So I made it just past the 30 minute point.

Needless to say that I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. It was a rather small cast ensemble, so there was additional pressure resting on the shoulders of the performers to carry the movie. The acting performances in the movie were okay; nothing outstanding or memorable, nor were they actually bad.

This was a swing and a miss of a movie. And it is definitely not a movie that I will return to attempt finish watching.

The movie's cover was actually the best thing about the entire ordeal.

My rating of writer and director Graham Skipper's 2024 movie "The Lonely Man with the Ghost Machine" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.

This is a deeply spiritual movie, reflecting on consciousness, life/death, letting go of suffering, the merging of the individual, localized consciousness with AllThatIs or Cosmic Consciousness.

Anyone who interprets this from a superficial, material, cinematic point of view, will not have the key to unlock the intended message and be left utterly frustrated.

Yes, some scenes are far too long and a bit too "arty-farty" for my personal taste, but the depth of the film makes up for that.

It sure isn't easy to pack all that info into a movie, especially with a meager budget, but overall, they did a good job. The script is well developed and congruent, the acting is solid and the feelings expressed are relatable.
