Student filmmaker Eddie Yellin does it again with another heart thumping short thriller. In his latest film "Pickle" Yellin demonstrates yet again his unique talent for leaving us on the edge of our seats, and holding our breath.
In "Pickle" Eddie gets into a taxi. The driver, well played by Isaac Mejjia, strikes up a conversation with Eddie who is clearly distracted, Eddie does his best to be polite. Eddie's girlfriend Sasha calls during the ride and angrily demands to know where Eddie is. Young Eddie seems cowed by this girl and promises her he's only minutes away. She is abrasive and even abusive to Eddie. This causes great amusement for the driver. Suddenly a grey haired man with blood stained clothes and hands jumps in the car. The man appears to be in an adrenalin fueled rage ,and is abusive to both the driver and Eddie. He demands the driver take him to his destination ASAP without stopping for anything including red lights. He speaks loudly in a word salad of disconnected thoughts and complaints. His phone rings and he gives it to Eddie to answer. The person on the other end makes death threats. The man (Paul Fisher III) is clearly frightening to the Driver and Eddie who demonstrate that fear without having to say a word. The tension is palpable. Finally the driver demands the man get out of the car. The man responds by shooting the driver in the head. Eddie runs from the car. The man gives chase. In a Kubrickesque scene reminiscent of "The Shining" Eddie runs through the streets of Tucson trying to escape this psychotic man. I won't give away the end. I'll just say it's a thrill ride. Clearly this is an excellent piece of work for such a young filmmaker. Eddie Yellin is a talent who has a very bright future ahead of him. I look forward to his next film with great anticipation.

Wry, fresh, and expertly executed, "Pickle" will pull you in from its opening shot 'til the final frame. It feels like an "After Hours," for this age, with nods to the Coen Brothers, but with a style and flair all its own. Great locations and a strong cast deliver on the promise of a night gone wrong. "Pickle" channels all the angst and anxiety of this generation, but with self-awareness that lets you know it doesn't take itself too seriously. Fantastic editing, music direction, sound quality, and casting. Strong directing from a new young director/writer/actor I'll be keeping my eye on. Enjoy!

This student short film is a true cinematic gem! It skillfully weaves a compelling narrative, engaging the audience from the opening scene. The characters are well-developed and portrayed with authenticity, making it easy to connect with their experiences. The cinematography is exceptional, with each frame carefully composed to enhance the storytelling. Editing is seamless, ensuring a smooth flow that keeps viewers captivated. The use of music and sound design is masterful, evoking a range of emotions throughout the film. What's most impressive is the film's ability to convey a profound message or emotion in a limited timeframe, leaving a lasting impact. It's a testament to the emerging talent in the world of cinema, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the filmmaker's future projects!
