Eddie Peng [the lead] established such a strong bond with Xin, the dog featured in the film, that he adopted him after filming had wrapped.
As the cast is made of several known actors in China, the director had them spent several weeks in the remote locations around the Gobi desert so that they would lose some of their city look and be more credible as locals from a rural area. It was particularly hard for lead actor Eddie Peng, who is very fashionable and has a distinct urban look.
A scene involving the tiger showing the black dog's location turned out to be very hard to shoot. Just when the director began to accept that it wasn't going to happen, the tiger got up and growled towards the dog, all while the cameras were rolling.
The film won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
For the german dubbing of this movie the voices of the actors were recrated using A.I. It's the first movie to do so, at least in Germany.
