What a wonderfully engaging film. It's a package of emotional loss and resettling, genuinely amusing side lines, light romance and drama with a one percent Science Fiction content used to tie it all together.
If you're expecting to watch a Sci-Fi indy film with all that may encompass, I suspect you're going to be one of the ones on here using the incredibly tired cliche about having wasted an hour and three quarters of their life.
The Sci-Fi element is more of a small Segway to bind all the other components. It's a weird spike - that's it, it doesn't need explaining, the film doesn't require it.
The acting, story, setting and outcome make up for what I was originally expecting in every way and left me with an emotional feel good lift that was far from expected and very much appreciated and enjoyed.
Highly recommended as a light but emotional feel good drama - with a teensy tiny bit of Sci-Fi thrown in.

I really liked how this movie kept me wanting to keep watching it. I liked how it was not fixated on the world wide issue at hand. It was an emotional roller coaster. One bad part of the movie was what the one of the main characters does something because of emotion. It didn't sit right with me, otherwise I would have given this a 8/10 stars.
In full honesty, one hour in, and I wasn't sure if this movie was going to really "pay off"; a burden I put on the film, not something promised to me. The characters didn't click with me immediately, no matter how hard I tried. Not to say the performances were bad, Ashley Burch is a stand out for sure, but the tone felt a little disjointed/inconsistence to me. My mind was changed during the climax of the film. The last 20 minutes of succinct story telling, beautiful cinematography and clever use of special FX ties everything together beautifully. I was crying, smiling and laughing by the end of the journey. As the credits rolled I felt like I had watch two people grow, change, and mature together; An absolute joy of a film! I want more Sci-Fi RomComs from Matt and Freddy; please and thank you!
P. S. Composer Maxton Waller's music throughout the film was absolutely incredible; very reminiscent of Shane Curruth's work in Upstream Color. Not similar in tone per se, but in his ability to match each "short" musical piece and interlude with the scene presented on screen. The backing track was always so expressive and perfectly emblematic of the emotions depicted. A+!

An ambitious blend of slice-of-life, road trip, and science fiction, infused with some genuine intents at its core, which I wholeheartedly admire.
While it might not be the most sophisticated or high-concept feature, the messaging resonates well. The chemistry between the lead characters, Thalia and Kai, portrayed by Ashly Burch and Jordan Rodrigues, is commendable as they effectively strikes the right emotional chords.
If only the comedic moments had landed more effectively and the balance between the contrasting tones been nicer, I would have been more generous with my rating.
Nevertheless, I liked it for what it wanted to convey and would definitely recommend it to anyone in search of a 'comfort' feature, this might soothe your mind.

It's too bad that this movie got categorized under romance, comedy, and sci-fi. Because those are just categories of what the characters experience. It is just a really great film about people. And how they deal with life and the stuff behind them and how itheir choices impact the stuff in front of them. You could take out the "sci-fi" event that they experience and substitute it for some present day tragedy like a plane crash or a mass shouting and it would still be about how people deal with life. There are so great themes interwoven that I won't spoil, but they're lovely. The lead male actor could've been stronger with his performance but I can ignore that. It's a great watch if you have time to just sit back and enjoy a good story.
