Grace: I know those woods. I know those woods like the back of my hand. I couldn't have missed a dragon.
Meacham: Well, you missed Pete.

Meacham: There's magic in the woods, if you know where to look for it.

Sheriff Gene Dentler: [from trailer] You can't say 'dragon' over the radio.

Grace: Guess you heard about the boy.
Meacham: I did. You know, word travels fast in this town. How long has he been out there?
Grace: Six years.
Meacham: Six years? Nobody can survive in that forest for six years. At least not alone.
Grace: Well... He says... He says he wasn't alone.

Grace: [to Pete] You're very brave. Did you know that? You might be the bravest boy I've ever met.

Gavin: [finding Elliot's paw print] Fresh. Not even a day old.
Bobby: What do you think? A bear?
Gavin: You ever seen a bear that big?
Abner: Thought I did once. Turns out it was just Bobby's sister.

Grace: [from trailer] You don't have to run anymore, Pete. You can stay with us.

Young Pete: [Staring up in awe at Elliot] Are you going to eat me?

Natalie: [looking at Pete's drawing of Elliot] He looks like a dragon.
Pete: What's a dragon?

Grace: I'm out in those woods every day. And while I have seen bears and bobcats, and just about every type of bird you can imagine, I have never seen... a dragon.
Meacham: Just 'cause you don't see something, doesn't mean it's not there.
Grace: And just because you say it's true, doesn't mean it is.

Natalie: Pete, is Elliot your imaginary friend?
Pete: What's imaginary?
Natalie: Well, it's where you make someone up in your head so that you have someone to talk to. It keeps you from being lonely.
Pete: Are they funny?
Natalie: Sure.
Pete: Do they fly?
Natalie: I guess they can do whatever you want them to. That's what makes them imaginary.
Pete: Are you my imaginary friend, too?
Natalie: [laughs] I'm real.
Pete: So is Elliot.

Natalie: [to Pete] But I don't wanna never see you again.
