Another Year Together

This film is so well done ... the writing, acting, cinematography, and overall production. It's a story of love, loss, regret, and second chances that, even though the characters are often larger than life, feels universally familiar. It's told methodically and beautifully, and the characters win you over slowly as it unfolds. The foot fetish porn conversation at Thanksgiving dinner alone is worth the price of admission.

I haven't seen Patrick Davin's or Daniel Hendricks Simon's previous work but look forward to. Simon is fantastic as Jonathan, as is Alexandra Turshen as Sophie. The supporting cast is equally strong and lovable.

Another Year Together" transcends the confines of romantic love, offering a poignant exploration of relationships in their messy, multifaceted entirety - encompassing lovers, family, friends, spouses, and even therapist-client dynamics. Daniel Hendricks Simon's portrayal of Manhattan serves as a poignant backdrop, a character in its own right, resonating with loneliness until intertwined with the lives of its inhabitants.

The film delves into the complexities of human connection, raising questions of love versus codependency as characters grapple with their own vulnerabilities and desires. David's inquiry to Jonathan - "Is it love or co-dependency?" - echoes the central theme, suggesting that relationships often blur these lines, compelling individuals to shed their protective shells in pursuit of emotional refuge.

Within this narrative, we witness the full spectrum of human behavior - from love and deception to infidelity and emotional retreat. Yet amidst the turmoil, there's a glimmer of hope as characters navigate their flaws and fractures, occasionally finding solace in one another's embrace.

Simon and Davin's deft storytelling paints a portrait of awkward, poignant, and beautifully flawed characters, inviting viewers to see themselves reflected in the shared struggles and triumphs of the human experience. Ultimately, "Another Year Together" reminds us that love is a journey of growth, forgiveness, and redemption - a collective endeavor in which we find solace and connection amid life's tumultuous journey.

I've been a fan of Daniel Simon since Lonely Boys and a number of short pieces I was fortunate to find online, so I was really excited when Another Year Together debuted. I can't recommend it highly enough. An excellent script, top class performances, and brilliant filmmaking across the board. This is a film you should definitely add to your annual holiday roster.

Alexandra Turshin and Roger Hendricks Simon were excellent and Pedro Padilla's cinematography was exceptional. Can't say enough about how Simon, Patrick Davin, and Robert Gregory were able to bring everything together so well on what must have been a limited budget.

Fantastic film!

Writer/Director Daniel Hendricks Simon has hit it out of the park with his relationship-driven 'Another Year Together', beautifully shot mostly on Manhattan's Upper East Side (with visual nods to the films of Woody Allen). Its idiosyncratic characters, played by some of the BEST New York City actors (including Richard Masur, Roger Simon, Mike Roche and Marilyn Sokol) are as far away from cookie-cutter as you can get. Their collisions are not only vastly entertaining, but also provide a fascinating psychological study on the highs and lows of contemporary urban life, examining such themes as urban loneliness, success/failure, aging, loyalty, death, art, escapism, reconciliation, and tradition.

This is a charming film about the ups and downs of spending the holidays in New York City with friends, and loved ones. This film had plenty of moments that made me genuinely laugh as well as a couple of conversations that were truly insightful which made me think of my own life challenges. There are numerous ensemble characters in the film, all of which are uniquely crafted and serve the story better. The subplot of the protagonist's mother and father really cracked me up. I would recommend this film to anyone, but I would say that it makes it all the more charming to watch between Thanksgiving and Christmas!
