Niebla de invierno

For the past couple of days, this series has been cropping up everywhere on social media. Critics were showering love on the show and condemning Netflix for not making adequate efforts to promote their newly released content. And this slew of discourses eventually led me to the series.

Now that I have completed all the episodes, I would beg to differ with the pundits; Netflix has had done the right thing not to market it because it does not deserve the attention it's getting. I'm not saying it was terrible; it was decent at best. But also, it was uninspiring and shockingly uneventful from a writing standpoint. Albeit, they have tried to deal with half a dozen subjects.

While I appreciate their heartiest exertions to initiate relevant dialogues on several issues pertinent to our modern-day society and its people, unfortunately, none of those notions materialised to their fullest extent, all thanks to sluggish screenwriting that had elongated the course of events for no apparent justifications.

Thankfully, it didn't mar the investigative procedures, which did have a fitting resolution in the concluding moments. I wish the writing here were tighter and more proficient in conveying the messages they wanted to convey!

Don't go on the negative reviews. The show starts off very mysterious & takes quite long to build up background character.

Plot lines are slowly slipped in which makes it even more nail biting.

The twists are quite good. You'd anticipate 1 thing, but something else only comes up.

The acting & background drama is also worth it. Throws a lot of light on the functionality of characters.

Cinematography & directing is also very dramatic. Creates a lot of suspence.

Episode intos throw a bit of light on background of the main character, highlighting his own characteristics.

This is probably the third Indian series I have watched. All the ones I have watched have been of high quality. This series continued that strong streak. The series was multi-leveled and in a good way raw. The characters were believable and the actors were good. The series was somewhat emotionally cruel, but was ultimately warm at its core. I also appreciated the fact that there were only six episodes. This was quite enough to create depth, atmosphere, flow and still be slow burnish. I don't know, but this little bit reminded me of True Detective and I cannot quite point on why. It is also interesting to follow the cultural differences.

There has been a slew of series in the past few months that are trying to cash in on the Indian public's thirst for police brutality. While some shows have added nuance and turned a critical eye on themselves and shown some sense of self-awareness, this show drops the pretence and goes all out to woo the people who like to watch liberals get beat up black and blue by police bros who don't give a damn about procedure or laws.

But despite gleefully carrying police brutality on its shoulders, this show could've also come up with a great story about virulent toxic masculinity in Punjab and delivered a great social message. But why do that when you can deliver a smorgasbord of pulp fiction tropes, drizzled with copious amounts of violence and gore for the brain-dead zombie consumers of Indian OTT.

Please don't fall for the hype and avoid this pathetic excuse for a show.

The best thing is the honest and accurate portrayal of Punjab, its culture and language. Though people don't use that much foul language, that's typical of any Netflix series based out of India. Still, the characters are local, and the shots are scenes in authentic villages. The story is OK but could have been improved. Other small personal stories of characters are neither related to the ongoing investigation nor are they much captivating-however, outstanding performances from all the cast members. Despite the average story, I would give eight stars for the originality shown. Small actions or scenes make you believe that characters are local and authentic.
