Pete Davidson is opening up about the reality of working on lower-budget indie film sets.
The Saturday Night Live alum made an appearance on the latest installment of Hot Ones, where he was asked by host Sean Evans about his experience working alongside the legendary Bill Murray.
That’s when Davidson recalled his indie crime comedy Riff Raff, which also starred Murray. Despite getting to work with the “icon of comedy and film” on the project, he also remembered how “tough” indie films can be to make.
“The movie we did — it’s a tough one because it’s an indie, so there’s no budget and there’s not anything glamorous about it,” Davidson explained. “No one makes money, no one’s comfortable, it’s strictly like for the art.”
However, the Bupkis actor added that Murray offered him a lot of guidance to help make the indie set experience a bit easier.

Pete Davidson is detailing his experience on indie film sets…and he’s not totally a fan. The “SNL” alum said during “Hot Ones” in the below video that “there’s not anything glamorous” about starring in independent films.
He recently appeared in TIFF 2024 indie crime comedy “Riff Raff” alongside Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Michael Angelo Corvino, and Davidson’s own personal icon, Bill Murray. Davidson and Murray played two gangsters who are hunting down an ex-criminal family over the holidays. Yet despite the star-studded cast, “Riff Raff” wasn’t a “comfortable” experience.

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have collaborated on multiple projects, and most of them have been widely successful. Their projects together grossed almost $300 million at the box office across five films, but one particular project stands out as an absolute smash hit: Wrath of Man.
The gritty action film marked their fourth collaboration together after their debut project, 1998's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The film was a massive commercial and critical success, and that has also translated into streaming success, with the action film being a major hit on multiple streaming platforms. However, although it recently rose on the charts on Hulu after its recent release, it was just dethroned by Judd Apatow's Bridesmaids, per FlixPatrol.
Wrath of Man debuted on Hulu on Jul. 1, after previously experiencing success on Prime Video. Not long after its debut, Wrath of Man topped the charts on the streaming platform, continuing its worldwide success.

With a cast that includes the likes of two Saturday Night Live alumni, one ofMarvel’s rising stars, and the most beloved performer to add her name to the call sheet of Mike White’s The White Lotus, one would think that Riff Raff would have been a hit. Helmed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints), the project had all the makings of a fun crime-comedy caper packed with action. Unfortunately, critics and audiences didn’t quite see it that way. Finding themselves in agreement with the film’s lackluster delivery, online ratings platform, Rotten Tomatoes, sees the title sit with a 56% critics’ approval rating while viewers gave it a teeny-tiny boost to 58%. Now, several months after the movie enjoyed a cinematic release, it’s finally made its way onto streaming, where intrigued viewers are digging in, helping to launch the title to the top spot on Hulu in the United States.

In the trailer for the horror thriller The Home, Pete Davidson’s character receives some simple instructions. It’s his first day on the job at an eerily quaint retirement home, and there isn’t much to do. All his employers ask is that he leave the place just as he found it and do not venture up to the fourth floor under any circumstances. Easy enough. But rebellious by nature, Davidson lets his curiosity get the best of him. It nearly gets him killed.

Pete Davidson is making his horror debut with the latest thriller from “The Purge” creator James DeMonaco. After starring in killer comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” Davidson fully leans into the genre with DeMonaco’s “The Home” which is set in a retirement community.
Davidson plays a rebellious twentysomething who is sentenced to community service at the seemingly-quiet nursing home. However, the residents on the fourth floor are strictly off-limits due to their “special care” procedures. As the logline teases, “as his suspicions grow and he digs deeper, he uncovers a chilling secret that puts both the residents’ lives and his own in grave danger.” John Glover and Bruce Altman also star. DeMonaco directs from a script he co-wrote with Adam Cantor.
“When I set out to create ‘The Home,’ I aimed to capture the spine-chilling eeriness of 70’s horror, where suspense simmers and ultimately erupts into glorious chaos,” DeMonaco said.

Italian producer Andrea Iervolino has boarded “Captivated,” a mob thriller starring Al Pacino and Katie Holmes that seeks to provide a different take on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III than Ridley Scott’s “All the Money in the World.” The long-gestating film is set to start shooting in Rome later this month.
“Captivated,” directed by Dito Montiel, tells the story of the 1973 kidnapping of Getty III and the unexpected bond between Calabrian mafia boss Saro Mammoliti (to be played by Pacino in his older version) and Gail Getty, mother of Getty III, to be played by Holmes.
They are “two souls from completely different worlds, drawn together by a tragedy that will forever change their lives,” says the provided synopsis. “Amid psychological tension and subtle desire, theirs is a seductive game of chess that adds a crucial layer to the mystery of the Getty kidnapping.”

During its seven-season run, The Rookie has enjoyed plenty of star-studded guest appearances. The ABC procedural, which hasalready been renewed for an eighth season, previously welcomed the likes of Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle) and Joel McHale (Community) to the fold, but there’s one familiar face in particular that fans are hoping will make a comeback. In Season 2, viewers were introduced to John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) half-sibling, Pete Nolan. Played by comedian Pete Davidson, the younger Nolan was quite a handful for John after he appeared on the scene following their father’s passing. The pair remained close, with the character even swinging by again for another guest spot in the fourth season, but since then, Pete hasn’t come back around — despite telling John that he’d continue to surprise him with visits.

When the first two sequels to the Wachowskis' "The Matrix," titled "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions," both released in theaters in 2003, it set a strange precedent for Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. Certain 2000s-era hits, rather than getting a single expected sequel, were granted a gigantic, outsize, super-sequel finale that was released in two parts. In addition to "The Matrix," major studios also took a "mega-sequel finale" approach to "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Harry Potter," "Twilight," and "The Hunger Games." Indeed, "Mission: Impossible" has since done the same thing with "Dead Reckoning" and "The Final Reckoning." Heck, even Marvel Studios made an "Avengers" mega-sequel-finale with "Infinity War" and "Endgame."
"The Matrix," however, also proved that the mega-sequel approach doesn't always work well. While "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" were hugely ambitious and exciting hits, they were also overstuffed, clunky, and wrestled with too many ideas. The mythology also became far too complicated for its own good.

In April 2022, Ghostbusters star Bill Murray was accused of "inappropriate behavior" while filming Aziz Ansari's film Being Mortal for the Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures. Though it was deep into production, the project was squashed as it never went back into production after getting put on pause due to the allegations against Murray.
Per The New York Times, Murray addressed the situation on the set of Being Mortal that led to the movie's cancelation. Previously, it had been reported that Murray allegedly straddled a female co-star and kissed her through facemasks they had been wearing due to Covid-19 safety protocols. After production was shut down, Murray reportedly agreed to a settlement to pay the woman $100,000. Looking back at the ordeal, Murray admits he still thinks about it often, though he maintains that he didn't realize what he did would result in him getting "barbecued."

The great Bill Murray has been doing the press rounds in February and March, as he stars in two recent films, the dark crime comedy Riff Raff (with Jennifer Coolidge) and the dramedy The Friend with a wonderful Naomi Watts. One of his most recent interviews was with Andy Cohen on his show Watch What Happens Live, where he took time to discuss his career. None other than Bruce Willis came up in the conversation; the actor retired in 2023 after sharing his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.
“I got to work with, and have a wonderful time with, Bruce Willis. We should remember today. He just had a birthday. Bruce Willis is a good guy, a good f*cking guy,” Murray said before sharing a sweet memory:
“He was a good friend and really always understood — Bruce Willis was a page at NBC when I was on Saturday Night Live. He was a page.

Dito Montiel’s Riff Raff is a curious tale, a crime comedy that boasts an ensemble cast of heavyweights like Ed Harris, Jennifer Coolidge, Bill Murray, Gabrielle Union, and a surprisingly great turn from Pete Davidson. Riff Raff blends dark humour, family dysfunction, and gritty thrills into a holiday-season caper. While it occasionally shines thanks to its talented performers, Riff Raff ultimately lives and breathes in the strength of its writing. Often it’s somewhat of a chaotic mashup of genres that can’t quite decide if it wants to be a biting satire, a heartfelt drama, or a full-on gangster flick, but somehow comes out the other side having entertained and thrilled this viewer with its rapid pace and effortless execution.

The 1980s was a heady time that found Bill Murray first experimenting (unsuccessfully) with dramatic acting. After SNL, Caddyshack, Meatballs, and 1981's Stripes launched him into stardom, Murray took a chance with an elevated project of sorts: an adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's 1944 novel, The Razor's Edge. The film was a box office bomb, making just half of its budget, and was derided by critics. Murray wouldn't give another dramatic lead performance in years. But there's an alternate timeline in which Murray leads a blockbuster war movie directed by Clint Eastwood in the '80s.
Murray, who can be seen in the new films Riff Raff and The Friend, went on the Howard Stern Show on Siriux Xm and shared the surprising story of his close call with a Clint collaboration. "A long time ago, I was watching the Clint Eastwood movies of the day, like Thunderbolt and Lightfoot,...

Jennifer Coolidge has revealed that her Emmy-winning turn in “The White Lotus” has transformed not just her career, but her dating life at 63.
“Even though I play a complete weirdo in ‘White Lotus,’ cute guys come up to me,” Coolidge told The Sunday Times. “This is far better than ‘American Pie’ because people were really sad about Tanya falling off a boat. These men like you better because they feel that you went through something. That show really upped my game.”
The actor, who has found new levels of fame after decades in Hollywood, spoke openly about the prolonged career slump between her early 2000s successes and Mike White casting her in HBO’s hit series. “I got very odd jobs — I had no guidance at all,” she said. “I didn’t know how to play the game.

"Wait for me! Before you two start hitting each other." Lionsgate has debuted a second official trailer for the crime comedy film Riff Raff, which already opened in theaters last month. Not to be mixed up with the 1935 classic with Spencer Tracy. It's a new film from New Yorker filmmaker Dito Montiel - currently only has a 59% on Rt for better or worse. It first premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year and will be out on VOD this week (first trailer here). One-time criminal Vince turned his life around when he fell in love with Sandy. Nearly 20 years later, the still-happy couple are looking forward to spending a quiet New Year’s Eve with their son. But then Vince's other son, Rocco, shows up with his pregnant girlfriend, Marina, along with Vince's first wife, Ruth, in tow. It is not a happy reunion... Ruth is rude & lewd, while Rocco is clearly hiding something.

It feels like the star-studded crime drama or comedy doesn’t really happen if it’s made for less than $10 million dollars. But “Riff Raff,” the new comedy from director Dito Montiel (“A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints”), appears to be the exception.
The film’s super-stacked cast includes Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Miles J. Harvey, Emanuela Postacchini, Michael Angelo Covino, Pete Davidson, and Bill Murray.

Over three decades after the release of the classic film Groundhog Day, actor Bill Murray has opened up about a memorable on-set incident involving his furry co-star.
During a recent appearance on First We Feast's "Hot Ones" to promote his exciting new movie Riff Raff, Murray showcased a scar on his finger, attributing it to bites from the groundhog during filming. "I'm not flipping you off, but that right there, that nodule there, that's from the groundhog," Murray explained, displaying his middle finger. "He got me back to back, two days in a row. And the second day, I thought I was being smart, and I put some fisherman's gloves, like steel gloves on, underneath the gloves I was wearing. His teeth went right through the steel."

Bill Murray deadpanned his way through the Wings of Death and three interruptions — two from his own phone’s alarms and one from fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Pete Davidson — on Thursday’s edition of “Hot Ones.”
The saucy interview’s first interruption came while Murray was in the midst of answering a question about the difficulty of making audiences laugh versus making them cry when his phone started loudly blaring. “Is that your phone?” host Sean Evans asked, to which Murray dryly responded, “Yeah, I set an alarm for myself to remember to try to show up for the show.”
Silencing the noise, Murray added, “I’m not crazy about that alarm. It’s the best one they have. I had a BlackBerry that had a much nicer alarm; very beautiful, very elegant way to wake up in the morning. It almost felt like you were being lifted up.

Bill Murray’s deadpan remains undefeated — even by the worst First We Feast’s Hot Ones had to offer. The pop culture legend appeared on the YouTube hot-wings-eating talk show hosted by Sean Evans to discuss his new movie Riff Raff, and seemed to enjoy it immensely. He certainly fared better than his Riff Raff co-star Pete Davidson, who pops by at the end of the episode for a quick cameo — only to immediately start suffering.
Right at the start, Murray explains that he’s not afraid of the spice levels at Chinese or Mexican restaurants, and at one point points out that he thinks “sriracha is cheating.” While working their way through the usual lineup of chicken, Murray calmly answers Evans’ questions about the movie he thought was his best work (the Jim Jarmusch movie Flowers) and his old garage band (The Dutch Masters). There’s nothing quite like a dark comedy to get the blood pumping. Add in some unique performances from all-time greats like Bill Murray and Ed Harris and you’ve got the makings for a very interesting time at the movies. Riff Raff is a story of family, consequences, and whether people truly change. I didn’t love the film (you can check out my review Here) but it certainly has some performances that stand out. Whether it’s Bill Murray being a bad guy or Pete Davidson as his muscle, there are plenty of “against type” performances her that give it a unique identity.
I was fortunate enough to chat with Jennifer Coolidge and Gabrielle Union about the film, and it truly sounded like a unique experience. Jennifer broke down how often people approach her for roles they deem “perfect for her” only for her to not see where she fit in.

Bill Murray ‘Wept Three Times’ During ‘SNL50’: ‘It Was Surprisingly Emotional’ and ‘I Couldn’t Stop’
Bill Murray has revealed that he got “surprisingly emotional” during “SNL50” last month, crying several times throughout the anniversary special.

Murray said he wept because “obviously, there’s a lot of video and history that they’re showing and I didn’t see it coming.” Watching a clip of late cast member Gilda Radner alongside friend Steve Martin particularly affected him.
“There was Gilda [Radner] up there dancing with Steve Martin and I remember being there, watching them rehearse that dance number for days and days and days. I love Gilda, I was crazy about Gilda. And I sort of came apart,...

Jennifer Coolidgewas eager to try something different after her acclaimed time on The White Lotus. The role of Tanya, however, worked in her favor for Riff Raff, her new star-studded film. There were two new movies to hit theaters this weekend — Last Breath and Riff Raff — and while both feature their fair share of star power, one performed much worse than the other. Riff Raff, which stars Jennifer Coolidge alongside Ed Harris and Bill Murray, opened with less than $1 million at the box office this weekend, finishing with only $901,000. Riff Raff was only playing on 1,004 screens, but this is still a per-theater total of $897, the second-lowest of any movie in the top 15 this weekend except Heart Eyes. Riff Raff was written by John Pollono and directed by Dito Montiel, and the film earned a 56% from critics and a 55% from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Sept. 29, 2006 forever changed Dito Montiel and Robert Downey Jr.’s lives.
It was not only the day that Downey was officially cast as Tony Stark in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, but it was also the theatrical release date of Montiel’s debut indie drama A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, starring Downey as a semi-autobiographical version of Montiel. The day cemented Downey’s return to industry prominence after a series of highly publicized personal struggles, and the random fall Friday had just as much meaning for Montiel after many of his own storybook ups and agonizing downs.
As a native of Queens in New York City, Montiel was something of a renaissance man before becoming a filmmaker. In the ’80s, he was a mainstay in NYC’s hardcore punk scene as the teenage frontman of Major Conflict. In 1989, his new band, Gutterboy, signed a then-record $1 million deal with Geffen Records.

Jennifer Coolidge has portrayed dozens of roles over the course of her acting career, but she can still remember the unpleasant experience of one of her earliest performances. This goes back to a play she took on as a child, but the bait-and-switch she was given with her role left her feeling frustrated.
Coolidge discussed the situation during a new interview with Grae Drake of Cbr to promote her newest movie, Riff Raff, which is now in theaters. When asked if she had any stage play experience as a child, Coolidge was instantly reminded of the time she was cast for a role in a rendition of The Wizard of Oz. She went for the lead role of Dorothy, feeling very confident about her audition, though she also read for the secondary character of Auntie Em. Coolidge admits she was then let down when the production cast her as Auntie Em instead of Dorothy.

There’s nothing quite as fun as a biting black comedy, and the best ones will have you laughing out loud one minute, and cringing in your seat the next. Riff Raff is one such story, taking a messy, blended family affair and kicking it up a notch with a healthy dose of mayhem and murder. When reformed criminal Vincent's (Ed Harris) past comes back to haunt him, a quiet trip to the cabin with his wife (Gabrielle Union) and son (Miles J. Harvey) turns into a violent reunion with estranged family members and trigger-happy criminals. Featuring sidesplitting performances from its stacked cast and some gnarly, shocking twists, Dito Montiel's Riff Raff is as fun as it is jaw-dropping, and will keep you entranced (and at times mildly disturbed), for its entire wacky runtime.
