Good ideas but with poor storytelling and acting

The ideas were good but it's unnecessarily long. 17 episodes is way too much for a single season. The storytelling is also very bad compared to what it could be. You're challenged to believe is so many coincidences throughout the story that made it very hard for me connect with. Like all characters are connected somehow through some unrealistic coincidences. On top of that, it's same old of a typical brazilian show that a couple who fell in love with each other are separated by another couple who want each of them to be with the main couple and then the villains form another couple...for some reason storytellers from Brazil can't get away from this structure in most cases. Besides the main couple and the sister-in-law, I think most acting was 'meh'.

You should watch more Brazilian productions!

This show (actually soap opera) is so good, it catches you with the story and the good acting! It is a good way to start the productions of soap operas for streaming platforms, a short story with much drama (important thing drama with quality and not like some Mexican shows). Brazil has so many good movies and tv shows, so many good actors and actress, comedy and drama are the best in Brazilians productions, and I see that sci-fi is growing in Brazilian productions too.

Anyways you need to give this show a try, and if you can try to watch with subtitles, the voice in the acting matter a lot...they're great actors. I hope we can see more Brazilian shows after this one trending in US and in the world Recommendations for you: 3% (Tv shows, Netflix) Good Morning, Veronica (Tv show, Netflix) Girls From Ipanema (Tv Show, Netflix) Invisible City (Tv show, Netflix) DOM (Prime Video) City Of God (movie) Central Station (Movie Second Mother (Movie) Bacurau (movie)

Incredible show exploring complex and important themes

This series is incredibly well-written and directed, with a great cast! Overall an amazing production which kept me hooked from start to finish. A Brazilian telenovela at its best!

The series tackles difficult and dark themes such as sexual assault, misogyny and discrimination. It shows different kinds of abuse that women suffer from men (including their supposed "friends" and even their husbands), from gaslighting to date rape. It also deals with the guilt and shame that a woman may feel after being sexually assaulted, which may last years and even decades.

Another important theme explored in the series is ableism, which is reflected in a secondary plot. The scenes involving this character are very sensible and the actor (who has the same condition as the character in real life) did an amazing job.

Average Drama with a Telenovela Influence

The premise of the show is undeniably intriguing, twins with different fathers, which sets the stage for exploring how lies and choices can lead to devastating consequences. The show is engaging and captivating from start to finish; there isn't a dull moment, except for the last 4-5 episodes, which unfortunately feel like a regression. These episodes are stretched and dull, and it seems the creators couldn't resist the temptation to overuse telenovela elements, which diluted the overall impact.

One of the show's strengths is that the major events unfold throughout the episodes, rather than being crammed into the finale. However, the show lacks strong, well-developed characters.

For instance, the character Liana seems to have no real significance other than being a bad mother. She could have been portrayed as a strong, resilient woman who stands up for herself and her children, but instead, she comes across as weak and ineffective. Overall, the characters feel shallow and lack depth.

Additionally, the dialogue often feels cheap, lacking the emotional weight and authenticity needed to elevate the story. This further detracts from the show's overall quality.

On the brighter side, Silvia stood out for me, with Paloma Duarte delivering a truly touching performance. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Julian Paes. Her performance left me with mixed feelings, as if something was missing or incomplete. You keep waiting for her to say or do something impactful, but it never happens.

Desperate Lies is a must see!

Thjs story is just amazing. So many twists. The writer did such a great job telling this story and connecting the characters. The acting waa superb. The entire cast were committed! The drama never got or gave boring. The powerful messages in it can change lives. I didnt mind that it had 17 episodes at 45mins i like having shows i can keep watching overtime everything is not about binge watching overnight these days. Everything isnt microwave quality. This could have been a film thats how good it is. Well done! Can't wait to see more from Miss Chavez. This was DEEP. Much appreciated.

That was quite bad.

What could've been a good 3-4 episode miniseries was dragged endlessly on and on for a whole 17 episodes. Yes the story is original and has some interesting ideas, but it was all drowned. In the end I kept skipping the last episodes forward simply because I was already into the story and wanted to see the ending, but couldn't bear the pace. It reminded me of a 2000-episode telenovela.

A lot of the characters weren't believable with their actions. I couldn't sympathise with any of them. There were contradictions and plot holes and lots of unnecessary details as well. All in all, a waste of my time.

Way too long but still good.

Well it was way to long and the sex scenes so boring and predictable, but the series was enjoyable, the acting incredible, yes it was melodrama but at its best, you get to love the good characters and hate the bad ones. I was tempted at times to just fast forward some of these episodes but managed to watch all of them and that was mainly because of the characters and the different plot lines. What was incomprehensible and disappointing to me was the reaction of the grandparents to finding out the parentage of the twins -- how mean and stupid can they be! I guess a lot of their reaction was meant to stretch the story line, but still. Over all, like I said, way too long but still good.

POOR WRITING, STORYTELLING. Lost potential.

The idea is good, the fact its based in a true story validates it...but...

TERRIBLE STORYTELLING.

Excessively long, 17 episodes to tell what? We needed 17 in Game of Thrones not in this.

So many better ways to portrait the handling of the situation. To improve the story.

Just a sequence of poor decision making, poor dialog, poor explanations.

AND WHATS UP WITH THE ABSURD EXCESSIVE BLUE PROPS in the tv show? A dozen blue items in every single scene. Just too much. OK, colors communicate but do it in a sutil way.

Everything is blue.. blue pacifier, blue shirt, blue wall, blue pans, blue dishes, blue stuff in the table, blue book, blue skies, blue everything. Annoying and distracting.

Garbage

This is such a garbage series that I can't believe that 26% of people in Brazil gave it a 10 rating. Were those votes from people somehow connected to the team that worked on the show? I think they were. This experience has taught me a lesson for the future not to trust IMDb ratings when deciding whether to watch something or not. The story is interesting, but: first, the acting is terribly bad, and in many cases, the actors are overly pathetic. Vladimir Brichta's performance, in particular, was awful. I haven't seen this much overacting and exaggeration in a long time. Second, the story, just like the acting, is painfully pathetic. To be clear, I love drama, but good drama that has some depth. Not the kind of drama that panders to the general audience, but drama with intelligence and wit. And this brings me to the third and most important point: this is a modern soap opera, a telenovela, but in a contemporary style. I watched the last three episodes by fast-forwarding and skipping 10 seconds at a time, and that was more than enough for me to understand what happened at the end. Because I knew what was going to happen. Which means - a completely bad script. A good idea, but wasted on a pathetic script and bad acting. The writer probably thought they were appealing to women by supporting the "Me Too" movement. People, you can't write a piece of garbage script and expect the show to be popular just by using one of the most important movements of our time. It's shameful that this movement is even being misused in such a bad script. Stupid, kitschy, and pathetic. Pitiful. I'm so angry at myself for wasting my time watching this series. I'm mostly angry at myself, and that's why I wrote this comment. I think I'll avoid Brazilian productions in the future, or I'll make sure to do a thorough check on what's good and what's not.

A Globo-like production on Netflix

Globo aesthetics, with a lot of mistakes taking into account current state-of-the-art on series productions. For example, soundtrack doesn't match Brazilian cultural mainstream at the mid-2000s. Also, when someone sings, fake ambience is applied with autotune. Tomás and Oscar characters are poorly depicted, in a Manichaean way when their personality should be nuanced, and vice-versa. Plot twists are erratic to the detriment of character construction or, on the other hand, most characters aren't developed at all and don't get any depth even after a lot of episodes. Sadly, the plot has a good starting point, but it couldn't get rid of the "novela" aesthetics.

Unbalanced Storytelling at its worst

Compelling idea and storyline, executed very poorly. There is enough to keep you engaged for a while, but as the season progresses, every episode starts to leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth and feeling very unsatisfied. There are a lot of issues with inconsistencies in personality traits for most of the main characters, and just general incoherent plot lines, but perhaps the most disappointing element of this series is that you can't help but feel that the writer is constantly pushing a very specific agenda at the expense of plot points that actually make sense. It's incredibly frustrating and off-putting as the show could have been so much better.

More of a Soap Opera production

Brazilian tv series thought I would give it a go as it was dubbed into English. The premise of the story being unusual as a woman gave birth to twin boys but from different fathers not even sure if it is possible to conceive from 2 different men on different occasions producing 2 sons. However regardless that makes for a very interesting story given the relationship between the parties involved. The main gripe I have is the bizzare decisions that unfold from this a lot that would just seem mad even from the craziest people but I guess they had to make a story of it I am on episode 7 the sons are around 11 funnily enough the adults don't seem to age at all and they all look exactly as they did pre birth. Not sure where this story is heading as it has 17 episodes for me it comes across more of a Soap Opera style series which is fine if your into that kind of show.
