Atom Egoyan was inspired to make this film when he was set to re-mount his interpretation of Richard Strauss's 'Salome' with the Canadian Opera Company. According to Egoyan himself, he wasn't able to make as many changes or edits as he liked, and so he began to imagine how another person might reinterpret the opera, which led to him creating the character Jeanine.
The opera singers in the film are played by the same singers who sung for the 2023 remounting of 'Salome', which Egoyan directed simultaneously with this film.
Production of the film coincided with Atom Egoyan's 2023 production of the opera 'Salome'. Much of the filming took place within a two-week span where Egoyan could use the opera set to double as the fictional opera in 'Seven Veils.'
This marks the second time that Amanda Seyfried has starred in a film directed by Atom Egoyan since Una propuesta atrevida (2009).
The running time of the movie is the same as the running time of the opera (Salome) it is based on: 1 hours and 45 minutes.
