I'm sad.goving this show.such a low rating, but I guess you have to be fair. It feels like a very poor attempt in doing what now.has become a well oiled machine. As always the stars.od the show are the queens, but the entire judging panel really brings this down. Rita just seems to lack.the omph that's needed. I just feel like her place is odd. And her drag is a tad pedestrian. Didn't see one look that I was taken back by. Then the array of judges permanent and guest just feel either too excited for no reason or just focusing on the wrong thing.
I mean rhey are trying but WOW needs a better quality control. Def worse than season 2.

At first I think the Belgian iteration of the bloated drag franchise seemed both very cheap and quite redundant. It didn't have the bold creativity of France or Spain so I was quite sceptical and there were definitely issues with the judges and even the host (I love Rita Baga but she is quite understated here). However, watching it alongside the other newbie (the deeply uneven Sweden), there definitely seems to be a certain strength in Belgium's general safeness and it ended up looking quite comforting in comparison. It sticks to the formula and there's a nice solidarity between the queens which I always prefer. The second season was more of the same and appeared belatedly with a bit of a welcome judge shake-up. Sadly the only memorable element for series 2 is that the franchise-wide end theme was replaced by a new Ru single for Belgium which was as catchy as it was terrible. Going down town we know where we're going going down town we know where we're going etc etc etc.
I have no idea why this franchise is called drag race Belgium since most of the Belgian population speaks Dutch. But no the arrogant French speaking Belgians will only allow French to be spoken. Makes absolutely no sense.. Furthermore, why have a Canadian host that has nothing to do at all with the country? There's literally a Belgian WINNER (Vanessa van Cartier) in the franchises (Drag Race Holland S2) who speaks French ánd Dutch (plus Italian, English and Spanish). Weirdest choices made by production. The queens do seem fun but also very unpolished and just not on the same level as other franchises. It looks like the producers thought they would make a great show if they just throw a lot of money against it (because the budget is there). I really wish they'd renew Drag Race Holland or create a Drag Race Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxemburg).
Despite being the same format and same challenges as all of the other Drag race franchises, this one has the benefit of being refreshing at choosing the drag queens competing. It feels new and exciting, I have to admit Season 1 is waaay stronger cast than Season 2 but still; the better queens (for me) in season 2 are so on other level than the queens on Season 16 of US format, the fashion, the talent, the makeup, the concepts! All of it feels ahead of its time, that's what makes the Belgique franchise so exciting to watch! The judges are charming and Rita is amazing as a host! She feels very natural and seems like she has good chemistry with the girls in the werk room. Some critiques feel out of place but, the same happens in all of the franchises, you just have to accept that art is subjective so, not everyone is going to like and see things as you do! As much as i ADORE some of the looks or performances of certain queens, sometimes judges don't seem to see what I did, and that's okay! At the end of the day this is a reality tv competition series so everything is a game and probably all planed as the season is being done, who knows?
For me this, France season 2 and Dragula are showing audiences where drag is headed in the future! Mark my words and see it for yourself, not everything has to be Supermodel of the world as the US franchise makes people believe! There are LOTS of drag art that hasn't even been shown on TV, but in here you can get a glimpse of other types of making drag!
MAKE SEASON 3 HAPPEN! <3.

This first season of Drag Race Belgique, for me, is hands down the most boring season of all the Drag Race franchise. There is very little real banter or wit from the judges, especially during the catwalks (where most of the other franchises have great and hilarious catwalk banter and comments from the judges). It lacks chemistry and pizzazz. I don't understand why the entire Pit Crew all look undernourished and underweight, and in serious need of Vitamin D. I found it difficult to be drawn in or invest myself emotionally with the candidates. The whole competition felt rather cold and stilted. I really hope that they will do better for season 2. Fingers crossed.
