A Cry from Within

A Cry from Within (2014) is currently available on Tubi. The storyline follows a family in New York City that unfortunately losses a child. During a trip to the country they have an accident and find a house while looking for help. The owner of the house helps them and offers them an opportunity to move to the country if they ever decide to leave the city. The family decides a change in lifestyle may be a good idea after their recent loss; unfortunately for them, they may discover the country picked them as much as they picked the country. This movie was directed by Zach Miller in his directorial debut and stars Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Deborah Twiss (Kick-Ass) and Robert Vaughn (The Magnificent Seven). The storyline for this is a bit cliche and didn't have enough unique elements to be good. The cinematography is uneven and the scare aspects are minimal. I think they hoped the background screams in this would be more scary than they were. The acting is also uneven but there was a couple good fight scenes, especially the ones involving the kids. Overall this is a below average addition to the genre that is only worth watching if nothing else is available. I'd score this a 3/10 and recommend skipping it.

I was not expecting much from this movie but still I ended up feeling extremely disappointed with this. The acting was awful & Eric Roberts seemed to think he did not need to act in this & just cruised through it without effort. Roberts can put in a great performance when he wants to I was sad watching him in this. The story seemed to just drag & I could not wait for it to end & in fact I fell asleep with boredom towards the final chapter. The child actor was not convincing at all. Roberts co-star Deborah Twiss upped the pace as her acting was up a league from the rest of the cast. Lastly I ended up in the dog house with my girl for making her sit through this abysmal movie. I have always liked Eric Roberts, even having met him and his wife over 20 years ago. We had a great chat and he even admired a watch my departed father left. I would love to know what it was that had caused him to now do B,C, and D crap films. This one is so bad, not him but everyone else he needs to perform with. It really is a sad state when this fine actor has to do such crap.

A Cry From Within is a Hitchcokian Haunted House thriller with which is Tentpoled by an amazing comeback performance by Cathy Moriarity and a truly frightening performance by LA Idie actress Heather Aitken as Cathy's character age 26. Heather is a dead ringer for the young Cathy and the camera loves them both. The script by Deb Twiss is terrific. Anyone over the age of 10 can see this film (one horrifying scene is inappropriate for younger kids). This is not a slasher film but is really scary. Eric Roberts finally is given a chance to play a charming lead and the chemistry between Deb Twiss and him is palpable. Veterans Robert Vaughn, James McCaffrey, and Eliza Roberts are effective although McCaffrey goes a bit over the top in the finale.Judy Beecher is fine as the (old) mother. Zach Miller, a first time feature director does well. Deb Twiss' daughter, Sydney McCann, is fine in a focal role and her son, Jatthew McCann, although acting with charm is given little to do. Go see or rent this film if you liked the 1963 version of The Haunting.

I had hoped this movie would somehow pick up and become something other then this dull drab story with unlikable characters.

The 2 parents in the movie laugh at everything from miscarriages to lost cats and closets that won't shut . Not scary and not interesting at all. Save your time .
