I love the Alien franchise and appreciate that so many talented fans create their own short films for others to enjoy. Acheron is particularly interesting because it builds on the ending of Aliens and suggests an alternative direction for Ripley's story. I'm glad to see this approach, as I never liked Alien 3 - where Ellen Ripley was killed - as much as the other films in the series.
In Acheron, we follow a crew of three unnamed men who land on LV-426 approximately 30 years after the events of Aliens. It's clear they're on a mission for the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, and their objective involves returning to the derelict alien ship first seen in the original Alien movie - where the eggs were discovered. The crew isn't sure if any xenomorphs are still alive but believes the ship is the most likely place to search.
I enjoyed the storyline and the major plot twists, but the execution wasn't always great. About two-thirds into the film, the visual effects quality drops off significantly. While the effects were never outstanding, the decline is quite noticeable. Still, kudos to the team for adding a new chapter to the Alien saga.
