The chronicle opens with a cartoon roughly explaining the concepts of the Ascension War, which is that through belief in technology over magic, technology becomes the new magic and it becomes accessible to all people and not just the elite who hoard such knowledge. Isaac, our protagonist then has a short conversation with his mother detailing his bad habits and begins his day. While using his bathroom, Isaac witnesses a shadowy figure watching him from his mirrors then lurches into action and follows it out of his house, unable to see it in anything but reflections. Isaac is then called by his friends to hang out in the park to smoke marijuana and play tabletop games. While there, one of his friends goes on a lengthy rant about the state of the world and taking control of your destiny which is interrupted a pink soccer ball flying at him and his friends. This friend then threatens the mother of the child who kicked the soccer ball by saying that he's going to pop the ball with his knife to teach her about responsibility. Isaac then rushes in to stop him and manifests some kind of Sphere Effect which places the knife into a corral snake at the group's feet. It is here that Isaac meets Ginebra. Meanwhile Viktor, the Technocrat and shadowy figure from earlier, returns to his Construct where he requests and audience with someone only named "The Artificer" and the first session ends.
