If you love series like Narcos, you'll like this one. It it great entertaining fir it's budget. Do not expect a masterpiece or The Expendables, and you'll fine.
First, I really enjoyed this kind of Mexican productions like Contraataque. There is nothing new here, but everything is done pretty well keeping in mind the budget.
Second, acting here is good. Even it is an action movie, there are also a few things that are remarkable even the amateurish cast.
Last, action scenes are better than 90% of Hollywood similar movies. No CGI here and great old school action scenes.
So, if you want an entertaining B-action movie, this one is for you.

I haven't seen many mexican movies like this, any period. Great talented actors, nobodys going to win a nobel prize for litiature but dialogue was beleivable and engaging. Sometimes it can be hard to watch some films like this but storyline was good nothing cheesy about it. I wish i knew of a true story like this in mexico actually occured and brought to film but the cartel really is too dangerous to provoke. Language, slang and termonology was authentic and beleivable. Alot of action, good action nothing too out there. Am proud of productiona nd whoever was behind it all, overall good quality. Hope theres another!!! Hechele ganas!!

Counterattack is a Mexican action film that clearly draws inspiration from the light, fast-paced style often seen in American cinema. Its plot is basic and predictable, built around familiar action tropes, making it an easy and unpretentious watch. While it doesn't aim for narrative complexity or deep character development, the film succeeds in keeping a brisk pace that holds the viewer's attention from start to finish. What makes Counterattack notable is not its originality, but its effort to contribute to a genre traditionally dominated by Hollywood. In that sense, it represents a step forward for Latin American action films, showing that the region can produce entertaining and technically competent works within this format. It may not leave a lasting impression, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a solid and enjoyable action movie to pass the time.

When comes straight to videos a la Cannon films, Contra Ataque falls in that category.
Ye ve the cheesy dialogue, proud been mexiken army(which they misterious) then important el machismo asking since when Netflix is interested in this here review: The story with a low budget play out average n quite dumb un special forces captain is always behind a drug lords operation sending brother finish him off once kill it became a hunt turned into Carpenter masterpiece Asault in Precincts 13. The action sequences ye know there straight out b class material.
The live or die that's hearings Gun n roses song.
Oh do not forget the victims they find house, get arm up with some good old M16.
The thing like that main bad guy is arm with the heavy of em all, call it call duty thang.
Forgot to mention the final fight with the captain n boss, could be awesome if were a Mexican machete, add some Korean taste.
So conclude the film is pure military propaganda like any other, is the stand off seen in many classic western.
But ye want cheap action to kill the time Go for it.

It has been a long time since most average movies last at least 100 minutes, but this one delivers everything expected in just about 80 minutes. The movie really deserved more time, but don't get me wrong - it is complete. The scenario is engaging, the characters are likeable and realistic, and the action is on spot. The music and sceneries are excellent, enhancing the overall atmosphere. The actions scenes varies and progresses during the movie, but are each time good and adequately intense. While it feels a bit short, you just want more time with it. Despite that, it's definitely worth watching.

This movie was surprisingly better than expected in many areas.
The directing was spot on. The cinematography was excellent. Even the casting and performances were on point.
The issue here is the writing, which really had nothing new to offer for the genre. In fact, it was too pedestrian and a story told many times before, and much better.
Even towards the end, the writing became too predictable and cliched. Nevertheless, an impressive overall international production, and a well deserved 5/10 to all production and casting areas, except to the basic screenplay that was rather boring. Still a good watch if nothing else to see.

I Found this movie while I was surfing. This movie has a Great plot, also great action, just needs a bigger budget and better lines for the characters to speak, unless it got messed up in the translation. It also needs a part two right away to continue the plot line. It ended with the next movie start right in the story. I would also keep a couple of the actors and actresses that were in the cast, but upgrade most of the actors. Even though, with the mentioned problems, I loved it and watched every minute of it. They need to not rewrite it, just reshoot using exactly the same story line and I would pay to see it.

An action movie that fulfills its purpose, being entertaining and providing a different perspective on Mexican justice. It doesn't escape the conventional, but it works.
"Contraataque" has a simple premise that has been seen in many films of the genre; however, the performance of some actors and that Mexican approach to justice is visually pleasing. Adding a small contribution to the cinema of that country, noting that its essence or culture is more than evident.
Within its cinematic sections, the work of Chava Cartas should be highlighted, a director who takes a turn from his previous productions and attempts to add the action genre to his history, achieving his goal and taking advantage of the window provided by Netflix. The director delivered some interesting shots with well-executed action sequences, in addition to reflecting the country's culture in all its splendor.
On the other hand, the development of the performances is decent, although they could have been better. Firstly, due to the performance of Luis Alberti, who takes command of the film with his characterization of the captain and strong expressions (at least at that point). Noé Hernández imposing the harshness and wickedness of his role as the villain. The actor Luis Curiel, from my perspective, is the one who does it best, and I emphasize his depth as a character, which is the one that tries the most to connect with the audience.
That is where the negative points lie that the movie needed to be greater. The script does not delve deeply into many of its protagonists, giving each of them a simplicity that can be counterproductive. If it had a more solid reason, perhaps the experience would be different. In addition to that, there are some interpretations that are quite mediocre, unbelievable, and even detestable to watch, but you'll be able to notice. Some scenes can also be added that have no coherence whatsoever, leaving plot holes or continuity errors. Small details.
"Contraataque" encompasses reflective themes that somehow add to all the action seen on screen. Justice, leadership, teamwork, drug trafficking, kidnapping, smuggling, dirty politics, military training, hope, survival, the loss of loved ones, among others.
In that sense, the movie is entertaining and stands out among many action productions of the year. It's not a gem, but for passing the time, it deserves a chance.

Captain Guerrero saves two women from getting kidnapped by cartel members and the women tell them that they witnessed a mass grave so the cartel wanted to silence them. The cartel's leader has a grudge over Captain Guerrero and his team so he plans an ambush on them when they are off duty as well as unarmed. How do these elite group fight their way back to safety while they remained outgunned and outnumbered, forms rest of the story.
Chava Cartas's film is definitely an entertaining actioner which gets into business quickly after establishing the events that leads to the ambush quickly. The elite group is thick and as the story progresses, we get a chance to connect with the younger sharp shooter and the medic while they also establish the group's dynamics. All these provide for the entertainment and the action scenes keep the adrenaline rush pumping.

"Pure realism
From a citizen Point of view, This Movie, Perfectly, portraits de Reality of My Country, it is by far one of the best pieces of cinema in the latest years, it's realizing I'm natural, acting capabilities, Without, perfectionist actors, it's like you're seeing real people in real life situations. Keep up the work, Netflix. Some scenes are a little bit over, acted, but it's noticeable just to keep up With the plot, also the ending Lives, you wanting more, and hopefully they will be Another. Hay particular de aquí, actor portrait, Real Life, Mexican People and the ambience is in real scenes from the Mountain Country"..... Dude "Pollos" Scope is on backwards but if that's how ya roll with ya specops then have at it 😉

I really enjoyed this movie. I'm not Spanish speaking hell I'm from Sweden but I truly enjoyed this movie. Didn't matter it wasn't in English. I think the acting was on point, photography was great same with effects. I felt it could have gone any way in the end but without giving spoilers it really held me on edge.
There were some minor things I object to or dislike but it's so small it what drags it down to 8/10.
And 8/10 is because I truly enjoyed it. For me a movie is good and I enjoy the whole movie then it's a 10. That's how ratings should work. If there's something I feel could have been better then I degrade it.
But rest assured. It's very watchable. Great action.

There are a lot of very critical reviews but which I feel are overly so. The acting was great, the action kept me enthralled, and I truly enjoyed the movie.
I am not a native Spanish speaker, so I hesitate to critique the lines. Going solely by the subtitles, I felt the writing did just fine with the film. As someone that does watch international films regularly, I found no flaws in the translation.
If you're looking for a wild military movie and aren't afraid of some gore, this movie should do it for you. Is it more than a good action movie as in a wildly complex plot and lots of character backstory? No. This movie doesn't need all of that. The film serves the purpose of the story, and everything it does have does the job well.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I think you will too.

I really loved the movie, if you're from México, don't listen to the reviews from USA citizens. It's a light of hope in a country in which drug lord glorification is often the norm. Even "Narcos: México" glorifies and glamorises the narco lifestyle. Performances and pacing could be a bit better. But the movie is great for the hope that makes you feel that our country might sometime have a chance of fighting back the criminals that govern our territory. As for now I know it's just fiction but at least it portrays the drug lords as what they are, a bunch of psycopath criminals that can't compete with our trained military.

Currently streaming on Netflix comes this stripped to the bone actioner from South of the border. In Mexico, a team leader of special forces group of the military, Luis Alberti, comes to the defense of a pair of women as they're about to enter a police precinct. The women, Ishbel Bautista & Mayra Batalla, who pulled over by the side of the road (one was feeling car sick) discover a mass grave of disappeared corpses (orchestrated by a cartel). Alberti witnesses some cartel members trying to kidnap the women & steps in quickly deescalating the situation using his combat skills & flashes his credentials to the emerging cops. Vowing revenge, the head of the cartel, Noe Hernandez, decides to poke the bear by sending a kill squad to off Alberti & his crew (on a 48 hour pass) who although suffer some injuries (their resident sniper, Luis Curiel, is wounded) soon tear the cartel's kill force to shreds as they make their way to safety in the guise of a warehouse which coincidentally is housing more of the cartel's soldiers (along w/loads of weaponry) & the female witnesses who have been picked up off camera setting up a thrilling finale where the clearly outgunned & outmanned heroes fight back...hard. A great calling card for director Chava Cartas, who shows Hollywood how it's done (really John Wick 4...nearly 3 hours), w/a run time skirting 90 minutes & enough characterization to make the characters matter. Can't wait for his follow-up.

This was a great movie which to shows how corrupt the politicians in mexico are and how some of these few great soldiers place their life on the line. Corruption will continue to happen in mexico until the have a president and government officials that care about their country and their people instead of greediness and Corruption. This movie was great to watch highly recommend it. It sad to watch how are country destroys and fails it's people with broken promises of change. This movie shows how difficult it is for some of these soldiers special OPS place their life on the line. It's a great movie that people need to watch.

I loved the opening sequence - a bunch of guys, driving along, joking and laughing where they were going to stop to eat - friends on a fishing trip maybe? And then......
I won't spoil it ....afterwards ... the story goes back 3 days and we get to see the brutality of the Mexican drugs cartels (not graphically seen, but hinted at which is worse when left to your own imagination), the corruption of politicians and the police and the army.
The film then becomes the usual goodies trying to get to safety, save some civilians, chased by the baddies BUT I found it very tense, I was rooting for the goodies, hoping the baddies would get it.
Yes it was formulaic - most films are these days, but foreign films are often much better than the stuff churned out by American studios. We never watch the dubbed versions, always in the original language with subtitles - mind you, even with American films we have to put the subtitles on to understand all the mumblings!!
If you can't find anything else to watch, I don't think you'll be disappointed with Contraataque.
