There was some really good graphic design on the main characters and The Flying Dutchman, but a lot of the baddies along felt like generic video game fodder.
I was surprised at the lack of jokes per minute in this movie, coming in expecting something more frantic. There are some decent visual jokes and a few for the parents that fell flat
Something that really bothered me was the lack of more ambient sound.
This felt like a low point for the SpongeBob franchise that I've watched since the '00s when I was in my 20s.

This movie did look very well animated, I enjoyed how well the story was done, but the humor sorta missed on a good amount of jokes. Some jokes just went on for too long it felt like, but this is also coming from a 23 year old. The story was a really good one. Getting a lot more Flying Dutchman stories was a lot of fun and I think it felt very well written.
This movie is not the greatest SpongeBob movie, but it isn't an unbearable movie either. I went to this movie with some friends. We weren't expecting a masterpiece based off the advertisement, but just wanted to laugh.
The main problem I have with this movie is the filler. There were MANY scenes of the characters just repeating themselves and going in circles saying the same stuff over and over. The amount of actual events in the movie is almost a 1:1 ratio of just over extending scenes. It was very obvious they were trying to fill up the 90 minutes required with nothing important to add to the movie.
Anyways, the animation wasn't so bad. Although it's outside the traditional SpongeBob style, it was alright. Didn't add anything special, but it was fine. There were also a few pretty funny scenes I laughed at. It was typical "potty" or dumb humor, but that's what I was expecting. There were some parts of humor attempts that were plain misses unfortunately.
The plot was pretty accurate to what I'd picture of a SpongeBob episode/movie. It wasn't crazy unique, but it wasn't too bad. It was a bit generic and similar to past SpongeBob episodes, but it is what it is.
Overall, this movie was fairly mediocre. I will definitely not be watching it again in the future. However, it wasn't so bad. It had a few laughs and was watchable for sure. It did have a bit of a cash grab vibe, but it was still a fair movie.

That's right... I made it through the entirety, of the 4th SpongeBob Movie (Theatrically released anyway). And guess what... it's better then the movie's entire marketing! Is it a Good Movie? Well no, because it's not a 6 or 7/10 film. Is it a Bad Movie? Not Even Close! Its an average family picture, that you can watch it with your kids, younger siblings, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, younger cousins, godkids, you name it. As for me, since I'm a lonely pirate, I'd say the 4th SpongeBob Movie... (while not as great as the first two movies) is certainly better then the 3rd SpongeBob movie, since it at least doesn't advertise a spin-off series that only ran for 2 in a half seasons. And, it's especially better then the Sandy Cheeks Movie from last year. As for whether or not it's better then this year's Plankton Movie (Seriously Paramount & Nickelodeon, why release two SpongeBob movies in the same year)? I think the 4th SpongeBob movie is on par with the Plankton Movie, as they're both alright.
It's spooky, it's cinematic, it's packed with pirate-themed chaos, underwater adventure, and the kind of dumb-fun jokes that remind you why SpongeBob is a legend. The world-building is insane. Every shot is full of color, detail, and little visual gags you'll want to pause and catch.
It's funny, it's weird, it's creative, and it proves SpongeBob still has way more to offer.
If this is the new era of SpongeBob movies, I'm 100% here for it.
