The Last Weekend

We watched this mini series for two reasons. The first was Shaun Evans and this was a side of him we had never seen before, not necessarily a good thing. I'm glad this wasn't one of his typical roles. The second was that it was shot in Suffolk but there were no shots that were recognizable. It could have been shot in any country setting in England. Add them both together and the sum is a wasted weekend.

This is a terrific three part drama, it's twisted and full of secrets, and unexpected twists.

What starts off as a case of bitterness and rivalry soon turns into something altogether more sinister and twisted, friendly rivalry, hidden passions, all are on hand here.

Interesting the way the story is told, you get an account from Ian, he will guide you through events, from his point of view.

It gets more and more dramatic with every episode, concluding with a nail biting final part. The end of part two may be upsetting for some. You learn more about Ian as time goes on.

Two of the best, Shaun Evans and Rupert Penry Jones, Evans arguably steals it, but Penry Jones is just as good.

Loved it, 9/10.

Totally underrated but best piece of British TV in a long time. A condensé of raw & real human idiosyncrasies, with unity of time and space, would make a great play.
