Move Over Tommy Wiseau, Neil Breen Is the Real King of So-Bad-They're-Good Movies
Image
Neil Breen is a lesser-known director who deserves the title of King of so-bad-they're-good movies, with his surreal and self-funded films. Breen's films, such as "Double Down," "I Am Here....Now," and "Fateful Findings," are a stroke of Breen-ius in storytelling, VFX, acting, and editing, making Wiseau's "The Room" seem high-budget in comparison. Breen has gained a cult following, with his films being screened in film courses and colleges, and his unconventional methods of purchasing DVDs and his extensive list of drinking game rules add to his bizarre reputation.

A perfect so-bad-it's-good movie is something of an art form in itself. There are a lot of movies that toe the incredibly thin line, and there are more movies than anyone can possibly watch in a lifetime that are just objectively bad, but sometimes one director comes along and produces misshapen gem after misshapen gem in the unique genre.

Tommy Wiseau...

New micro-doc talks about the making of cult classic "Turkish Star Wars"
I've stated my love for bad movies many times before, and while there are a few films that get a lot of overexposed..."adoration"...from bad movie fans (your The ROOMs, your BIRDEMICs, your Fateful Findings), one always seems to slip through the cracks. And that's Turkish Star Wars (a.k.a. The Man Who Saves The World), an incompetent Turkish rip-off of Star Wars (straight up stealing... Read More...

James Franco directed The Disaster Artist entirely in Tommy Wiseau's voice
While I've seen worse movies (*cough*Birdemic*cough*, *cough*Fateful Findings*cough*), The Room is certainly up there. But at least you can say it's never boring - bonkers, incoherent, and badly made - but never boring. A large part of that (besides the crazy-ass plot turns like random drug dealers and breast cancer) is the leading man/director Tommy Wiseau. He's an enigma, like an alien who... Read More...

SyFy releases teaser for Sharknado 5: Global Swarming
Since the world isn't fair, and is a dark existential nightmare always on the edge of teetering into the abyss, it explains the existence of a fifth fucking Sharknado movie. And, look, I don't have a problem with the Sharknado series because they're bad movies. I've seen shit like Birdemic, The Room, Fateful Findings, and A Talking Cat?!? more times than... Read More...

Rifftrax to take a stab at the awful Samurai Cop movie next month
Samurai Cop is one of the premiere bad movies, up there with The Room, Birdemic, and Fateful Findings. It's nonsensical (what was up with that nurse scene?), ridiculous (why call your movie Samurai Cop when the cop barely does samurai things?), and shoddy (notice how the main character's hair goes from real to a wig in-between scenes). It's abysmal, but still fun to watch. It's why... Read More...

Newswire: Get Involved, Internet: Fund Fateful Findings director Neil Breen’s next movie
Aficionados of outsider cinema who aren’t already familiar with Las Vegas architect/Diy auteur Neil Breen’s baffling oevure are hereby advised to get on that, now. And you don’t have to take our word for it: The experts at The Flop House recently featured Breen’s film Fateful Findings on an episode of the show, and The A.V. Club’s own Nathan Rabin argued that “The Room is the gold standard for exquisitely, transcendently, historically unself-conscious awfulness, but in recent years its position has been threatened by Neil Breen’s Fateful Findings” in an editorial for Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re already inducted into the cult of Breen, then we have some great news: He’s currently raising money for his next movie, Twisted, on GoFundMe. Breen provides few details about what to expect in the campaign video, promising simply that Twisted is a “a dark...

2013 Arizona Underground Film Festival: Official Lineup
The 6th annual Arizona Underground Film Festival might be beginning on the unluckiest day of the year — Friday the 13th — but the residents of Tucson are lucky for this 9-night extravaganza of wild and wooly cinema from all over the globe. The fest runs Sept. 13-21 at The Screening Room and other locations.

Opening Night films include the retro, music-fueled slasher flick Discopath by Renaud Gauthier and the Internet-based bloodbath Truth Or Dare, directed by scream queen Jessica Cameron making her filmmaking debut. The last film of the fest on the 21st is the cryptic post-apocalyptic thriller Dust of War, directed by Andrew Kightlinger.

The rest of the fest includes mind-bending fiction flicks like the cult-ish Fateful Findings by Neil Breen; the 90-minute, one-shot noir Worm by Andrew Bowser; Zach Clark’s twisted holiday movie White Reindeer; Drew Tobia’s surreal See You Next Tuesday; as well as challenging documentaries...

Horror Is Child’S Play – Don Mancini’S Curse Of Chucky (World Premiere)

A rarity among genre franchises, the Child’S Play series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades’-long reign of horror. Mancini, who will be hosting our “scar-studded” world premiere, graduated to the director’s chair with 2004’s Seed Of Chucky, after having co-written or written every entry in the series. His longevity with the project is, of course, matched by the fiendish voiceover work by...
