I Give this Shot Film a 10/10 because I consider it to be a revolution which showed the capabilities of an Open Source Software Blender, What they achieved back in 2012 with limited resources is just phenomenal. This is the classic example of the saying " It's the Artist holding the pencil that matters not the pencil itself ". Ian Hubert , Sebastian Konig ,Ton Rossendaal, Sean Kennedy are the Legends i admire for making this and inspiring .Thank You:)
I'm a big Blender user myself, have been into it for years and have always followed the movie projects from the Blender Foundation... Its previous one Sintel was an amazing piece of work as it not only demonstrated the capabilities of the software but was also an enjoyable and moving short film.
Tears of Steel, instead of being a 100% 3D project instead became the first live action film by the Blender Foundation. Which made perfect sense as over the past year a lot of features have been added to the software to assist in that area... a new rendering engine to help with photo realism, camera tracking... color balancing etc etc...
And, as an exercise to demonstrate those new features and what they are capable of the film did its job, the special effects are for the most part very impressive, aside from some poor 'green screen' moments they made a realistic environment to set the film.
However, this is where my praise ends... as an actual short film, it falls flat on its face. The script is hammy, a little confusing and in some case, flat out dumb... 'Admit you don't like my robot hand!' ... really? It left me feeling quite let down after the hype and build up and my hope, is that next year they produce something that works as a tech demo AND a film at the same time. Not one or the other.

A reasonable story, technology and love story, a lot of holes but a film giving to each viewer small part from what he deserves/expect. and that saves a short film with few ambitions to impress for special effects , using not the most credible story . but the last could be useful . as a kind of spice. robots, fights, resistence and the desire to fix an error from past. and nothing more.
This is the kind of short film students make who really have very little experience of film making or directing... anyth8ng good that is. And what a waste as the production values are obviously way and above average. But this is THE CLAS#IC mistake of new film makers. The script and story suck. It's all about 'hey look at us and how clever we are with effects. Doesn't it look great', meanwhile there's no real story and at 10 mins this in unforgivable. It's also not well directed with hardly a decent camera shot or imaginative framing in the whole piece. I've no idea who these people are but ultimately this piece is a waste of time nd money. Maybe the computer designers will get a job but this does nothing for anyone else who gave up their time. And boy there were a ton of people who worked on this. However this project serves as THE PERFECT example to film students on not what to do with a year of your time. Instead concentrate on a good script, a great story and find a handful of great actors and film something in a basement on a mobile phone and trust me it will be infinitely better time spent than this. What a waste,
I have to agree with those who talk about the amazing 3D graphics and the lack of real story. We are left to guess what happened and what the solutions are. I don't mean that everything needs to be spelled out, but there is a need to simply put before us the events leading up to this, other than the meeting on the Amsterdam bridge. I assume robot technology got out of hand, but there must have been something dramatic to get to this point.
