Trying too hard to be cool - I rate it fail

I had high hopes for this film, especially since I've been a fan of recent Korean movies and their directors. Unfortunately, Bogotá: City of the Lost tries too hard to be stylish but falls flat in execution.

The protagonist, Cookie, is simply unconvincing. His rapid rise to the top in just seven or eight years-surpassing bosses who have ruled for decades, like Uncle-feels unrealistic. He doesn't display any remarkable intelligence, bravery, or leadership skills that justify his success. In fact, he often comes across as foolish, like when he grabs two pieces of underwear to prove his loyalty-a gesture that failed to evoke any emotional impact.

His unwavering respect for his father also feels undeserved. This is a man who abandoned him in Bogotá, later became a gambler, and even stole his son's money, knowing it could cost him his life. If he was that desperate, he should have considered other options instead of putting his son in danger. Cookie's devotion to such a father is baffling and unearned.

The chase scene where Cookie pursues the woman and his father after they steal his money is particularly weak. Korean cinema has evolved significantly, but action sequences-especially car chases-still lag behind Hollywood by at least 20 years. The scene was clumsy and lacked tension, making it almost laughable.

Ultimately, the film's biggest issue may not just be the genre itself but the casting and direction. Neither the lead actor nor the director seemed capable of delivering the depth and intensity needed to make this story believable. While Korean films have made great strides in storytelling, Bogotá: City of the Lost is a step backward in action filmmaking.

Wrong genre

I like Song Joong-Ki - he is a good actor in the right vehicle - he can do romance and comedy and drama.

He was alright in this - it just didn't call on his acting skills. He was simply called upon to play it tough and intelligent - which he did. What amused me was the fact that he seemed to look younger the older he got.

He arrives with his family in Bogota because his father is useless and has landed them in unpayable debt. Asian parents seem to have no conscience about living off their children.

Guk-Hui soon finds favour with Captain Park who is a Korean immigrant who has risen in the local criminal fraternity. There is a lot of dialogue about trust - nobody trusts each other. Their business is smuggling fake goods to sell in local markets - it seems all Korean immigrants sell fake goods and all Colombian officials and military can be bribed - until they can't.

The story continues with various criminal rivalries which culminate in an assassination attempt on our hero which has a surprising result. Of course the villain is pretty obvious to fans of this genre.

I quite enjoyed it - but it does not sit well with South Korean actors - it's just too familiar fare from Hollywood I suppose.

The ending was as expected. We have seen similar many time before.

The stars are for Song Joong-Ki.

I wanted to like this movie

I was really excited about Bogotá: City of the Lost because the story sounded unique-Korean immigrants in Colombia and the struggles they face. But sadly, the movie very quickly failed to meet my expectations.

Instead of telling an interesting story about the connection between Korea and Colombia or developing its characters, it just focused on the usual crime and corruption themes. It felt like the filmmakers relied on clichés instead of offering something new or meaningful-the same old formula used in Hollywood movies about any country south of the U. S.

The story was predictable, and the movie didn't take any creative risks. The overall production was just okay, and at times, it felt like it was mocking Colombia rather than genuinely exploring its issues.

I wanted to like this movie, but in the end, it just didn't deliver on its promise.

Movie struggles but Song Joong-ki performance walk over on it

Filming was completed in 2021 and released in 2025. Many things have changed, with OTT platforms ruling the current entertainment trend. Viewers are watching different movies with different subjects from different countries. One of those countries is South Korea. It is a care of the address of new contents, and the Bogota movie came from it. It's a new attempt in SK movies taking the subject of immigrants lives.

It's a story about a person establishing his legacy in a place with no guarantees for his life. The story follows how the main character is shaped into a fearless guy and what the events lead to that make him change his fate from an immigrant guy to the person who controls the smuggling business. The core story is routine: The main character starts his life from the bottom and reaches the top in illegal business by taking down one by one those who are getting in his way . But the highlights of the movie are the acting, 90's sets, and art. Coming to the acting, every actor is given their best. Song Joong-ki again delivered his best; his transformation from a 22-year-old guy to the mid-30s is a remarkable role in his filmography. Really loved his raw character and realistic acting in Guk Hee's role.

The 90's art makes a good impression on the movie, like cars and costumes of 90's Colombia. The music soundtrack is okay. Now see where the movie struggled to get into the hit mark. The story has full potential to make this movie a great movie. But it looks like the director and writer failed to utilize it for the best. Also, the story narration is great, but again, the failure part creates the depth of the characters, except for Song Joong-ki & Lee Hee Joon; other characters are far away from this. It would be the best movie if the director and writer put a little more focus on creating emotional development.

Overall a worthy movie to watch & Song Joong-ki will impress you.

Song Joong-ki Is A Great Actor

Saw some stupid reviews spreading negativity on Song Joongki and the film so I had to write a review to discredit the other shortsighted haters writing shallow reviews. First of all, this movie was good. It wasn't great, but it was good, realistic enough, and entertaining. Song Joongki is a great actor and will always be one of the best South Korean actors. Any negative critic about this movie just goes to show lack of understanding of the plot and lack of respect for actors and moviegoers. Not every movie has to be over the top and grandiose. This movie was satisfactory and worth my time and I am glad it's topping the Netflix charts right now.

Boring and pointless

There are lots of good korean and gangsters movies, but bogota isn't one of them. The plot about a bunch of koreans smuggling clothes and accessories to columbia, which is flat and empty. The twists were old and predictable, the character development is awkward and illogical, lacking the charisma to carry the story. The ending again is a let down leading to nowhere, kind of pointless and failing to wrap up the movie as to what happen to the character afterwards. The movie lacks an interesting plot or thrill, the acting was as well mediocre. All in all this movie is forgettable I suggest watching something better.

Song Joong Ki's acting stand out

Bogota: City of the Lost is a gripping crime thriller that explores the world of Korean immigrants in Colombia. The movie follows Kook-hee, played by Song Joong-ki, as he navigates the treacherous streets of Bogota and rises through the ranks of the black market.

Song Joong Ki performance as Kook-hee is one of this film's most noteworthy aspects. His ability to convey internal conflict through subtle expressions and physicality allows the character to resonate, even if the writing doesn't quite fully explore his psychological transformation.

However, the movie's pacing can be a bit slow at times.

Watchable but not great

This movie is watchable. It isn't a great movie but it is not bad either. I was interested from the start about what was happening. Song Joong Ki with his boyish looks always captures your sympathy especially in the wild dangerous country. He Is forced to do things when people go after him. Not too fantastic a plot to be fairly believable even though it isn't a true story.

Good on location filming. This isn't a drug movie it's about smuggling Korean clothes to sell in Colombia. The plight diaspora folks face is another aspect. Funny how they are robbed just leaving from the airport. Actually the crime reminds me of how tourists are preyed on in Paris or Madrid or Rome. So called first world countries are just as bad.

The flaw is maybe because it is just a movie and not a series there isn't a whole lot of emotional connection with the characters. Not time for backgrounds of the supporting characters so don't feel anything for them. Also there is no romance or much development regarding his own family. It's about battling over smuggling clothes in to sell in Colombia and not paying customs. Dealing with the bribery and corruption of the local officials is fairly scary although it is not Escobar level. Not scary means more realistic so it's a nice change from exaggerated thrillers.

I can see why this movie wasn't a big box office hit. It is not an exciting thriller. But it's okay for a Netflix watch.

Bogota: The City of Darkness and Redemption

During a devastating famine in Korea, people fled their homeland in search of refuge. Many sought shelter in nearby countries and regions. Among them was a family-a father, mother, and their only son-who arrived in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. They found themselves in a city engulfed in darkness, where crime and struggle were deeply woven into the lives of its impoverished residents.

As the boy grew up in this crime-infested environment, he longed for change. He wanted to escape the world of crime and build an honest life, but his past, along with the influence of old friends and circumstances, kept pulling him back. Eventually, he made a bold and dangerous decision-to eliminate every corrupt figure standing in his way. With careful planning, he took down one by one those who had embraced dishonesty, until he finally confronted and eliminated his own boss in the most precise manner.

A gripping tale of survival, morality, and vengeance, Bogota: The City of Darkness and Redemption delves into the relentless struggle between crime and justice.

Didn't found it interesting!

Bogota: City of the lost 2024 (2025 in Netflix) and the duration of One hour and fourty eight minutes movie was about crime / thriller and i really do not know why i did not found it interesting after watching the full movie. It is rated low also at the Google movie rating and in my perspective it is also not more than average movie! I rated it only three stars and yeah, may be i will watch this movie again in future and may be i will change the stars to more or less after watching it again and full. I think the audience will also feel the same after watching it full.

Great locations to visit, bad and poor story

Great locations to visit, bad and poor story. Good production, magnificent locations (you must visit this city at sometime in your life)... but what a bad story, terrible, to tell this type of stories of corruption, smuggling, crime and evil, it could have been told anywhere else in the world, even in South Korea itself. The only real danger in Colombia is that you come here and you don't want to leave. It's a wonderful country and its people are extraordinary. That's the only reality and not what is shown and said in this film. Just ask the millions of tourists who come here throughout the year.

A Missed Opportunity

This Korean film relies heavily on familiar ideas, never truly stepping beyond what feels safe and expected. While it has its moments, much of the story unfolds in a way that lacks originality, making it feel somewhat uninspired.

The characters and situations follow well-worn paths, and the film misses the chance to bring something fresh to the table. With Colombia as its backdrop, there was great potential to create something truly captivating, but instead, the setting feels underused, leaving the impression of a story that could have been much more.

Despite its polished visuals and occasional charm, the film never fully embraces the depth or uniqueness it could have explored. It's an enjoyable watch at times, but ultimately, it feels like a missed chance to create something more memorable.

Definitely a must watch!

I actually loved how the title and the story including the actors portrayed everything amazingly!! I honestly don't understand why 70% of viewers seem to dislike it. Maybe it's because the film takes a darker, more complex approach, but that's exactly what makes it stand out. It's not just another drama-it delves into power struggles, survival, and the hidden underworld of Bogota in a way that feels raw and compelling.

The rise in power theme was executed masterfully, showing the challenges and moral dilemmas the characters face as they navigate this dangerous world. It's a film that keeps you thinking long after the credits roll. If you enjoy crime/drama thrillers with strong performances and a captivating plot, I highly recommend giving this movie achance!

A good film with worth watching Song Joong-ki's acting

The movie shows many aspects of struggling in a new place where you don't have any assurance for life. The 90's vibe was nice. Song Joong ki's acting was in top-notch. As always he proved that he is a versatile actor and can do kick-ass job in every character he chose till now. From a teenager to mid 30's Song joong ki's acting was really nice to watch.

But as the movie was shot in 2021, and it's 2025, the choices of viewers has changed and also many series/films have already released related to the topic like tremendous struggling/smuggling storyline. Many viewers may get bored for this reason but acting of the cast can make one stuck to the film.

Good Movie deserve better

Bogota is not a simple film, my personal opinion, and I'm not a cinema critic, I'm from Colombia, I think Excellent direction by Kim Seongje great cast include Lee Hee-Joon and Kwon Haen-Yo, Park Ji-hwan, Fernando Lara, the main character Song Joong-Ki nailed his performance as Guk Hee. He is a versatile actor. The movie has an engaging and suspenseful plot, with plenty of twists and turns, also the manage of various languages was good. The main themes about survival, loyalty, and power are well-explored, adding depth and complexity to the story, Colombian landscapes are beautiful; at home we watched already 3 times, we love it, think deserves more respect and value.

An Exciting Journey: Why You Should Watch Bogota

Bogota: City of the Lost starring Song Joong-ki truly deserves all the praise! From start to finish, the film delivers an outstanding performance and impressive direction that showcases a powerful story and great plot. Joong-ki's portrayal of a complex and emotional character captivates from every angle. The storyline is intense, filled with themes of hope and survival in a city that knows no mercy, and it's clear the film was crafted with utmost care.

What stands out about this movie is not just the plot, but also its ability to tackle social issues from a global perspective. It's amazing to see how well it has been received worldwide, topping numerous charts and reaching millions of views in record time. I highly recommend watching it, especially for fans of thrillers and realistic drama.

Lost and found

I watched this show because of the bad reviews (which generally means I would like it lol). This is certainly a different genre. Showing a different way of life. This show reminded me of characters I have met in life. Maybe that is why?

Lost but searching to be found. To find a way to survive and a way to live. Life is not ideal. Everything has a price. It depends what you are willing to pay.

Fell in love this movie so much. To me this show reminded me of The Godfather movie series. I would love a second movie to continue the story or even an entire movie series similar of The Godfather movie series. (If they are looking for script underwriters please contact me - the stories I know and can tell.) It's all just a matter of history repeating.
