What We Hide is among countless coming-of-age films about innocence lost. Rob Reiner’s Stand by Me immediately comes to mind, with all its hubris and heart. My Girl lives in the sweetness of the moment, at least until the instant one of the titular characters’ bubbles shatters. These stories revel in nostalgic companionship and the poignancy of growing up.
In contrast, The Florida Project blends that sentiment with the perspective of children oblivious to the stark hardships endured by their caregivers. What We Hide, however, is different, unfolding in a world where innocence is impossible to locate. That’s because it was shattered long ago, and, like many who have to grow up too fast, didn’t have time to pick up the pieces.

After a three-year hiatus, Dacre Montgomery is back onscreen with multiple upcoming projects.
The Australian actor explained that following his run as Billy Hargrove on Netflix‘s Stranger Things from 2017 to 2022, he decided to “take time to step back” and reevaluate his career after he felt it was being “pushed in a commercial direction.”
“I think with Stranger Things — as any big show on Netflix — it’s kind of like you lose your anonymity overnight,” he explained to People. “And it was amazing and overwhelming and a combination of many things, and I felt really lucky and really fortunate to have that opportunity.”
“But I think for me, I grew up really wanting to work with [auteur] directors on arthouse films and really explore how far I can push myself in terms of character development and really, really fall in love with stories. And when Stranger Things came out, I felt...

What We Hide, formerly titled Spider & Jessie, is a dark psychological drama that begins in the smallest of spaces and expands into something emotionally vast. Daniel Kay directs with an unflinching eye, grounding the narrative in the intimate world of two sisters who find themselves in a situation almost too bleak to imagine.
Spider, played by Mckenna Grace, and Jessie, played by Jojo Regina, lose their mother to a drug overdose in the opening moments. Faced with the certainty that the foster system will separate them, they make a decision that binds them in secrecy: hide the death and carry on as if nothing has happened.
The central tension grows from this act. A social worker begins asking questions, dangerous figures from their mother’s life close in, and the daily grind of survival becomes increasingly precarious. The film does not dwell on spectacle or contrived plot turns; it...

Mckenna Grace is grateful to not be playing the younger version of an older actor for a change. Grace plays Jan Broberg in Peacock's "A Friend of the Family," which premiered on Oct. 6 and tells the terrifying true story of Robert Berchtold, who kidnapped Broberg in 1974 and again in 1976.
The 16-year-old actor has played younger versions of many different characters over the years. She was the young version of Margot Robbie's Tonya Harding in "I, Tonya," Brie Larson's Carol Danvers in "Captain Marvel," and Annabelle Wallis's Madison Lake in "Malignant," to name a few. Finally, though, "A Friend of the Family" has allowed her to experience things from the other side.
"It was really special to finally have a younger version of myself," she tells Popsugar. "That was so cool. Hendrix [Yancey] on our show, who plays the younger ages of Jan, was so fun. She's so smart,...
