Late twenty-something William Borchert has always been considered different or weird, he never having had a job due to his generally anti-social behavior, it manifesting itself in what seems to be extreme shyness. After his mother deserted the family, he has solely been financially supported by his father Angelo, who just considers him lazy. In his spare time, what Will has always done is either played video games or developed video games for his own pleasure. His longtime friend since childhood, Trey, an emotionally immature man, invites him to live with him upon the news that his current roommate, a mutual friend named Shannon, is moving out, she having gotten a job in Toronto. Trey, in his emotional state, does not realize that Shannon, his best friend, is moving solely because he has never seen her as more than just a platonic friend. What Will's new living arrangement means is that he will have to get a job for the first time in his life. In this modicum of independence, Will goes to a doctor for the first time to discuss his issues, he being diagnosed as mildly autistic. His anti-social behavior is largely because he cannot read emotional cues in others. During this time, Olivia Casey, another friend from childhood, returns to town on a short visit. Will was always there for Olivia when they were children. Olivia moved away four years ago to get away from her mother, Diane. While Diane escapes the bad mistakes in her life with a bottle of booze, Olivia escapes her bad mistakes to Will's shoulders any time he is in her life. Most of what Olivia has done in her adult life is to get away from her mother, she contemplating a marriage proposal just the latest possible move to do so. Will has always been in love with Olivia. She coming back into his life now may provide him with the impetus for him to search for his dreams.—Huggo
