Cable giant Comcast Corp. on Friday reported a $120 million third-quarter profit on the London Olympics for its NBCUniversal entertainment arm and confirmed that it broke even on the Summer Games. Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts told an earnings conference call that his team continues to expect future Olympics to turn a profit. “We now have more confidence than ever the Olympics can be profitable,” he said. London - The BBC set another London 2012 Summer Olympics ratings record Saturday as Mo Farah’s gold medal-winning run over 10,000 meters drew a peak viewership of 17.1 million. "Mo Farah’s golden moment in the 10,000m drew the highest peak of the Olympic Games so far," when excluding the opening ceremony, with a peak at 9:45pm, the U.K. public broadcaster said. London – Dr. Dre and his Beats headphones are at the center of a marketing controversy here at the Summer Olympics. London Olympics organizers and the International Olympic Committee have strict rules to protect official sponsors who have struck multi-million dollar deals for the exclusive right to exploit their association with the event. The headphone brand is not an official sponsor of the International Olympic Committee or the London 2012 Olympic Games. As the film industry worries about audience fears at movie theaters, there's a temptation to pass some quick judgments about the long-term impact of the Aurora tragedy on movie attendance. This weekend at least, we should not overlook the more important X factor ---the opening of the Olympics. That made a difference in two crucial ways. First, unlike most summer weekends, television provided major competition. That's why the studios tried to stay out of the Olympics' way. So there is nothing to panic about. This weekend's estimated grosses are ahead of 2008, roughly $135 million to $121 million (even better after adjusting for higher ticket prices). The top 10 without "The Dark Knight Rises" would be below the total four years ago (the fourth weekend of "The Dark Knight"). But a second weekend for the current Batman film - #1 for the weekend - makes for more of a "go to" film than the previous entry.

London - The BBC drew a peak audience of 8.7 million TV viewers Saturday night with swimming finals on BBC1 on the first night of competitions at the Summer Olympics here. That exceeded the U.K. public broadcaster's top-rated 2008 Summer Games live broadcast. London - In the first TV controversy of the London 2012 Summer Olympics, U.K. public broadcaster BBC has registered concerns with the International Olympic Committee's TV production arm about a lack of key timing data during Saturday's men's cycling road race. The arm, Olympic Broadcasting Services, provides TV pictures to networks around the world.

With British cycling star Mark Cavendish and his teammates chasing a leadership group Saturday, the company for large periods of time had no information about the gap between the home team and the leaders.

It seems Olympic enthusiasts aren't so enthusiastic about Ralph Lauren's Team USA Olympic uniforms. And with this being dubbed "the social media Olympics," observers on Twitter aren't holding back on what they consider to be a major fashion fumble. A tape delay and illegal internet streaming feeds didn't stop NBC from scoring two Olympic records on Friday night. The network announced early Saturday that it had earned the highest rating for a non-us Olympics opening ceremony in television history, a 23 overnight rating and 40 share. That tops the previous high of 21.5/37 that tuned in for the 2008 summer games opener in Beijing. The broadcast averaged 40.7 million viewers, which tops the 1996 Atlanta games (39.8) for the largest Summer Olympics opening ceremony in history. Beijing averaged 34.9 million.
