It's a remake of a classic Bollywood film, and in no way shape or form does it measure to that. But, I knew going into this one that I'm not going to get that because David Dhawan's directing this, and if you know his filmography even a little bit, you should know that this isn't going to be a natural, grounded, subtle rom-com. His USP is over-the-top, slapstick comedy and at times, I myself crave for some share of that dopamine which the genre provides.
The acting although nothing noteworthy is fun to watch at the very least. Ali Zafar is cute, Taapsee is cute (which is really hard for me to say since I have this image of her being the embodiment of female empowerment in every film), Divyendu Sharma is basically playing a totally opposite version of his character from Pyaar ka Punchnama but Siddharth was just annoying to say the least (he could've definitely toned it down a little bit).
The comedy is slapstick and at times, quite misogynistic but you can't really go into a film like this and not expect any amount of it because even though the film being released in 2013, follows old-school humour and thus, it was unavoidable. There are some moments which are pure laugh out loud whereas some just did not land. However, I will say that Anupam Kher is a legend. He is the least bit problematic in the film and he actually managed to get the most laughs out of me.
The songs are actually quite fun. Early Morning and Dhichkyaaon Doom Doom being the clear standouts with Har Ek Friend Kamina Hota Hai and Andha Ghoda Race Mein Dauda having a real whacky but fun vibe.
A nice, fun, time-pass for the weekend.

Score 7/10 Director Mr. David Dhavan's work and approach towards an old story is good. There is nothing new in story but screenplay and dialogues make it entertaining. Screenplay by Renuka Kunzru is good. Dialogues by Farhad-Sajid is very good. Film slows down just after interval but very soon, it again picks up the pace. Punches in dialogues and the chemistry between all three male characters are enjoyable. Performance wise Siddharth as Jai is very good. Ali Zafer as Sid and Divyendu Sharma as Omi are fine. Tapsse Pannu as Seema is also good. Anupam Kher is fantastic as usual. Rishi Kapoor as Jhoseph is impressive. Lillete Dubey as Jhoshphine is good. Music by Sajid-Wajid is good and supports the film very well.
this is the David dhawan superb comedy created with good numbers of shayari, dialogs and very good songs. The Chashme Baddoor remake comes as a pleasantly surprising tale from the house of Dhawans, abundant in humor and not slapstick buffoonery. Rendering a modern angle to the classic story, the film interestingly tugs at our nostalgic beads, remaining innovative making this one of the most remarkable romantic comedies of recent times. Hit the theatres armed with coke and popcorn, you wouldn't want to miss this one!David Dhawan easily surpasses the standards he had set for himself by giving the 1981 classic Chashme Baddoor an unusually quirky and unthinkable comic dimension.
Total Paisa Wasool Full to Comedy Movie The movie revolves around three friends Sid, Jai and Omi (Ali Zafar, Siddharth and Divyendu Sharma respectively), who live together in a small house in Goa. Living life large is their motto, but the only thing that doesn't seem to work for Omi and Jai is that no woman is interested in them. Sid, on the other hand, lives a normal life. The two womanizing slackers, Omi and Jai make an attempt to woo the new girl in their neighborhood, Seema (Taapsee Pannu). Soon, a series of lies, secrets and comical situations follows. The Film is start to end goes constantly in same line and didn't get down. Ali Zafar again prove that he is not just fantastic singer but he is very light hearted and very good to fit in this role. Divyendu Sharma is Surprise Package in this movie with his Dynamic Poetry. Sidharth Narayana is one of the most Brilliant actor and done a very good comedy. Tapasee Pennu Have Dynamic Entry in Bollywood. Her Cuteness and Smile Make movie very beautiful and good. Rishi Kapoor perform as usual brilliantly. David Dhawan done Again fantastic Direction and prove again He is best in Comedy. Music is also very light hearted. The different type of Music is really Appreciable from Sajid-Wajid. Dhichkyaaon Doom Doom,Early Morning,Har Ek Friend Kamina Hota Hai are bang on. The movie USP of movie is it doesn't feel Boring for second also. Overall a good light hearted Comedy Movie after long time which don't have big names in Main star cast. So Go to theater and watch it and Enjoy. Rating:3.8/5
With Bollywood not showing little mercy since 2013 beginning, I took extra courage and hopped in to watch David Dhawan's latest. Well, I am not impressed, but neither am I complaining.
Having read Karan Anshuman's review in Mumbai Mirror, I risked it. And whoa, the first half made me laugh. Well, isn't that a shocker nowadays? Siddharth acts buffoonish all over the film with his equivocal character. So is the character of Divyendu Sharma (PKPunchnama was appreciable), but his wit, sarcasm & shayris (short balladry) in short intervals puts him in the limelight. Together, they take a dig on many David Dhawan films, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan & various other Bollywood related strong-points; they are both funny & clichéd. Ali Zafar is total let-down with his character emerging in the second half and still failing to take-off. Newcomer Tapsee Pannu follows every other newcomer and does quite well... what was told to her. But, she will need to put more dumm (power) into her chutzpah if she wishes to stay.
Supporting cast is elegant with Rishi K, Lillete D & Anupam K doing great enough to keep the movie going. Songs are powerful but the dialogs are not so happening. Editing is average while the screenplay just pushes it. The plot is simple but the edification is illogical. What could've been done rather easily, Chashme Baddoor lengthens it, but with panache to some extent. The second half is a juxtaposition of many hackneyed thoughts and compared to the first half (more of adult comedy lies here), is too boring & predictable.
BOTTOM LINE: You can risk it and have a couple of laughs to lounge this weekend because this year very few movies have come out which are worth watching, but I should remind you that this is tad adult and you may not want to take your family along. Overall, Dumm thoda kum hai boss! 5/10
Can be watched with a typical Indian family? Make a thought!
