Dolph Lungren stars in yet another straight to DVD action film. This time he plays a former military man recruited by a wealthy guy to go somewhere dangerous and extract his daughter. So yeah basically the same plot as a couple of hundred other action flicks.

The twist is the "Dangerous area" is full of zombies, and on top of that military grade robots are also out in force.

With a hostile reception from all sides upon his arrival Lungren must dig deep to find and rescue the girl.

It's dumb, it looks shoddy and despite the zombies vs robots thing which is remotely original the whole thing feels oddly familiar.

For fans of Lungren or hardcore zombie nuts only.

After a zombie outbreak in Asia, the mercenary Major Max Gatling (Dolph Lundgren) is hired by a wealthy industrialist that was the responsible for the pandemic to rescue his daughter Jude (Melanie Zanetti) with his team from a city. Max loses his group that is killed by the zombies and stays alone to accomplish his assignment. He finds Jude and learns that there are other survivors; Duke (David Field), Reese (Matt Doran), Elvis (Jen Sung), Lynn (Lydia Look) and Anna (Oda Maria). She refuses to flee alone without the others and Duke and Elvis handcuff Max on a power pole to die. However, when Reese discovers that Jude is pregnant and the city will be firebombed, he rescues Max to save Jude. Then they find a group of robots killing zombies and Max reprograms them to help the survivors to escape. Will the group succeed to escape?

"Battle of the Damned" is a laughable movie with Dolph Lundgren in the lead role. The idea of zombies and robots is original but the execution is very poor: terrible screenplay and dialogs are terrible; and the camera work in the mayhem of zombies is awful. My vote is three.

Christopher Hatton writes and directs this low budget science fiction romp that fuses two sub-genre subjects, the modern zombie-infected and Robots. Coincidently it shares the same basic concept as Zombie Massacre (2013) and elements from a lesser known zombie film Severed: Forest of the Dead (2005).

Shaky camera shots aside it's a b-film that has atmosphere thanks to the unusual Malaysian location and interesting architecture. The generic costume design fittingly works, the music by Joe Ng and Ting Si Hao although borrowing from many sci-fi films is excellent. The violence is aplenty, with the gun and abundance of knife play being effective enough.

There's no small Dolph Lundgren cameo it's very much is his film focusing on his Max Gatling character throughout. Both actresses Oda Maria as Anna and Melanie Zanetti as Jude are notable with the rest of the cast being adequate given Hatton's limited script. The zombies sadly are not the slow shambling kind and the robot CGI effects are a mixed bag. Nevertheless, the relationship between both the main robot (voiced by Tim Cooper) and Max is quiet interesting and humorous. Beneath the low end production there is quite a good story even if it swaps development, depth and pacing for action.

Don't expect too much, Hatton has a lot on his hands juggling all the high concept elements coherently and keeps it linear but what is on offer is the infected, robots and soldier high-jinks and basically that's what it delivers.

Battle of the Damned has a great idea going for it. A somewhat unique premise in the execution but its all hampered down by a small budget. Don't get me wrong their is some fun to be had with this movie plus it doesn't try to be anything that its not. Dolph Lundgren is a soldier for hire who gets employed by an individual who wants him to go into a quarantined city of infected people and rescue his daughter. Sure you can call them infected or zombies but essentially they are like the infected in 28 Days Later as in they are fast moving and are more prone to bite and tear than eat. So Lundgren's crew doesn't last long and its up to him and only him to find the target and get her out. Along the way he finds some survivors that are led by one who is addicted to his position and they end up clashing. Also while trapped in the city Dolph and his fellow survivors come across Robots that happen to have wondered into the city fresh off of malfunctioning and killing people from another movie called Robotropolis. So how to get out of the city alive? Reprogram the robots and let them pave a way. I'll admit its a good idea but the acting is uneven, Dolph is showing his age and the budget isn't high enough to properly execute this idea. With that said its entertaining and has a good idea going for it. Sure its not for everybody but its fairly good in the end for what they had to work with.

Zombie movie with robots? Sure? Why not? But it is not necessarily a great combination.

"Battle of the Damned" basically have the most simple story lines of all times. A city in Asia has become afflicted with a virus that turns people into crazed killers. And corporate CEO hires military expert Max (played by Dolph Lundgren) to infiltrate the infected quarantine zone and bring back his daughter.

That was basically the storyline. And you get what you pay for here, a shallow storyline that is driven by the action alone. The story is not overly interesting or deep. It works for what it is intended to do though, and the movie is entertaining enough in itself.

As for the infected, or zombies, well first of all they were hyper-mobile and agile, running around and making odd bestial growling sounds. Two things that doesn't sit well with me, and that was a factor that pulled the movie down in my opinion. There isn't really any gore or mayhem here, as the infected are basically just Asian people covered in dirt, soot and wear torn and shredded clothing.

Action-wise, then "Battle of the Damned" is alright. Not super great, but it is enjoyable, and well worth watching a single time.

With the people hired for the various characters and roles, you know what you are getting for your money's worth, so don't expect Oscar winning performances here.

If you enjoy Dolph Lundgren's movies, then I am sure you will find some enjoyment in "Battle of the Damned". If you are watching the movie out of your love for zombies, as I did, then this movie doesn't really impress.

This is yet another "cash in" on the zombie success movies. Remove success and that is what you have, a zombie movie. A very typical one at that, hire a merc to go into a zone infested with zombies to save the damsel in distress. If it wasn't Dolph Lundgren as the action hero(with a GREAT heroes name "Max Gatling") than this movie would score much lower. The action is OK I guess for a low budget movie, although not very believable. I do appreciate that the writer/director of this chose Dolph with the perfect script in mind, hardly any dialog. That sums up the acting, it is horrible, by all involved. I am pretty sure you can quickly visualize the whole movie, so that sums it up. The effects are pretty standard for the budget, poor. That brings me to a curious point, why are the robots in this the same as the robots from "Robotropolis" ? A quick search solved this dilemma "Battle Of The Damned is written and directed by Christopher Hatton (who previously made Robotropolis), will commence shooting in Malaysia this summer, and will be released at some point in 2013." So recycled robots, and effects...and yes, i am reviewing that movie next (out of order on purpose since they don't really have anything to do with each other) If you like Dolph, then it is fine, mindless fun. If not, don't bother. 3.7/10

We've seen the same concept before, of a bad-ass going into a dangerous quarantined city to save someone (in Escape from New York for one), but this time, there's "zombies" and robots. The "damned" of the title are actually the people stuck in the city as the "zombies" are not really dead, just people sick and rabid. Other than that, they act just like the running zombies from 28 days later. This movie was more action than horror with minimal frights, suspense or gore. At least for me. The actions scenes were usually cut in rapid-fire fashion, seemingly as to avoid lingering on the moves or faces of the Thai extras playing the infected who were probably just dirtied up instead of having actual horror make-up. I didn't much care for the editing of the action scenes. I suppose the sequences where Dolph dispatched enemies one by one with a knife were fine. Most of the up-close or shooting scenes were disappointing. Dolph Lundgreen is unfortunately getting older as he obviously has trouble running, and his punches and kicks are not as vigorous as they used to be. For an action film, it matters as I kept thinking that Dolph was going through the motions instead of actually fighting.

The CGI robots were done nicely enough (although recycled from Robotropolis), but they took too long to appear, had no personality and seemed underused to me. There were some nice shots by the director, especially in the luxurious house hideout and the ruined building at the end with the reflections in water. Dolph was his usual stoic self except when doing grimaces while fighting. For characters other than Dolph, the acting wasn't horrible but it wasn't memorable either. Duke, the older guy, was a bit better than the others. As previously stated, the story wasn't that original and, in execution, I never really found it gripping, but it was watchable. The role of the robots might have been a surprise if it hadn't been ruined in the movie's description. Coincidental convenient meetings in that big city also bugged me (Max and the girl, the soldier, etc.) I wouldn't recommend paying too much for a rental if the subject matter interests you.

I have been waiting for this movie for about a year now and after tonight I don't think Lundgren should be taking on the dead anytime soon. Movie starts off unclear. I hated the camera work. Never could figure who was killing who. Chessy CGI, but hey that's what you get for a low budget film. The film was unclear too me yet I still understood. This could been so much better if it had more of a budget. The story could've went many ways but the writers chose to go a way that doesn't seen to amuse me. This is a movie you could sit down with friends with and have a good laugh at the cheesy Robots. Dolph should stick with action films like Expendables, but that's me speaking. Hope you enjoy the movie.

There was some sketchy dialog particularly noticeable when Dolph's character max was speaking with his fellow soldier while they were walking on the bridge early in the movie, and some of the acting was stilted, but I loved that the zombies moved quickly and the robots were fun. The Dolphster is getting old, you could tell by his movements, especially when he runs, but he is in excellent shape. Dolph plays the part of the stoic unwilling hero well. The CGI was not Lucas film quality but it was not distracting. The main characters had clear personalities and weren't all generic. I only wish the end wasn't so predictable as to who would survive.

Dolph has done it, Seagal has done it, soon every 2 bit actor has done a zombie Movie. I expect Van Damme doing one too, soon.

There's a huge influx nowadays of zombie Movies, most of them not memorable. I haven't seen any recently that has been more than average besides World War Z starring Brad Pitt.

Plot: Company merc goes to infected Town to rescue daughter. He teams up with a Group of survivors. All exits are cut off but they need to get out Before it is too late.

the story is quite thin, too thin even for a zombie Movie. However, it is saved by good sfx and decent acting.

The zombies are "modern", i.e. they move like the zombies in 28 Days later and Worls War Z, they react to sound and you can kill them by any way you can - not just a head shot or decapitation.

The Movie is not bad, just not exciting at all. Furthermore, it does not even try to add something new either.

See this one if you like Against the Dark (2009) and Zombie Apocalypse (2011). Don't see this this one if you like Dawn of the Dead (1978/2004) or the Walking Dead TV series (2010).

I give it 5 out of 10, not because it is particularly good, but because it is better than most zombie Movies out there and the sfx are better then most Movies in the genre.

now see, this is a fun little zombie movie. instead of focusing on the survival aspect, this is mostly big Dolph and his buddies pummeling and running from HUGE hoards of zombies. one weird part of this film is that it includes a band of four "service robots" who, in previous film "ROBOTROPOLIS" massacred a mining town due to a program corruption. now this is even stranger because I've never seen the previous film, but heard about it on the message board here, and in THIS film, the robots mention the massacre and program error, so its the same robots LMAO!!!sorry to ramble on, but give this one a try, its a pretty fun throwback to trashier days starring a great action trash actor ;)

I was entertained. First off, it contains Dolph Lundgren, you know what kind of movie it is. He doesn't disappoint, while no Arnie, Dolph handles his one-liners while killing zombies and surviving while all around him die.

Although the zombie attacks are less and lees in the middle of the film, they come back with a running vengeance that overwhelms most of the survivors.

The plot is thin and basic, but the added adventures when the robots come into the picture change the course of their actions quickly.

Good for a popcorn night in.

it's bad on so many levels- I don't even care enough to get into all the logic flaws in the story; here's just a few of the dozen... from the "hardened" borderline-elderly super delta soldier who's supposed to be the best of the best- but has moosed up gel in his hair the whole movie and needs glasses to read a map... to riding a silly motorcycle up & down the streets in a zombie infested city- a motorcycle? really? how do they pump gas at all the stations with no electricity? even the robots were lame; in one scene the robots are slinging zombies everywhere- then a few minutes later, 6 silly zombies are able to destroy a robot... why are zombies even interested in a metal robot when they can't infect it or eat it? if a zombie was into robots... then they would also be into eating cars! STUPID!

you never have any REAL connection to any of the characters- so much of the story just doesn't make any sense if you think it through.

I was actually waiting for Rambo to pop out with a knife in his mouth. the protagonist was a total "rambo" wannabe. this movie was a total cheese fest- one of the worst executed scripts ever.

Oh. My. Gosh. This is the ultimate "because why not" movie. The fact that this was actually made is just so awesome.

Have you ever wanted to see Dolph Lundgren fight zombies? Have you ever wanted to see robots fight zombies? Have you ever wanted to see Dolph Lundgren fight a robot? Well you probably didn't know it, but you did. And you can see it, right here.

Dolph Lundgren plays himself in his usual grizzled, battle-hardened soldier role, and he elevates the movie. He runs, jumps, and fights, and kills many zombies in a variety of ways, including martial arts, head stomping, stabbing, and shooting. David Field is actually pretty good here, I thought. Melanie Zanetti is a little annoying, but I guess she could've been worse. Jen Seung looks like Steve Perry, and that's all there is to stay about him. The other actors are ok, but they're inconsequential.

The protagonists don't meet the robots until about 53 minutes in, but things pick up from there. The robots are pretty cool. They look good sometimes, and unbearably, early-2000s cheap at others.

The action is actually pretty good. The first 20 minutes is non-stop bloody zombie violence, with Dolph and his team killing tons of zombies. There's a lull in the second act, but Dolph does fight zombies while handcuffed to a lamppost, and the robots kill zombies. The third act picks up though, with a cool street battle and a huge climax in the last 18 minutes where everything just ramps up. Dolph does much of his own stunts it looks like, and props to him for still pulling an Arnold and giving his all in his performances. There's a scene where he's standing in a street full of zombies carrying only a knife, and you highly doubt that he's gonna kill them all, yet deep down, you know it's gonna happen. Well it doesn't disappoint.

A glorious B movie fest, with bad CGI and fake blood. And that last explosion though. Lol. It's not for everyone, but come on, it's robots vs. zombies with Dolph Lundgren. I give it a full 5 stars just for the creative vision alone.

Please watch it. It's too weird to be ignored.

"Zombies, killer robots, nice town you got here." After a viral outbreak causes people to turn into zombies, military soldier Max Gatling (Lundgren) is called into battle. Not only must he fight off the zombie army with a few human survivors, but a group of robots that have been trained to kill as well. Even though it sounds made up I swear that is the plot of the movie. I know what your initial thought is but I have actually seen worse. The thing that helped the movie is that it didn't take itself too serious. If they tried to be straight line and make it seem like a real war movie it would have been un-watchable. The fact that they added comedy and made it a little over the top made it seem better then it actually was. I'm not saying this is a good movie at all because this wouldn't be in my top ten choices to watch ever but in terms of Dolph Lundgren movies there have been much worse. Overall, the robots look like a rip off of the Lost In Space robot and the zombie effects are barely passable. A severely low budget World War Z knock off but again I have seen worse. I give it a C.

I love Dolph. The movie is what it is. A B crapfest but with some surprisingly good acting and OK story. What I want to know is why I saw this online over 3 years ago and it is supposedly released in 2013.

The Zombies and characters are OK for B movie zombies and characters. Dolph is Dolph and the CGI is garbage.I watched this so long ago I am surprised I remember any of it but the fact that I do means it is worth a watch. There is some blood and gore to be found even though most of it is crap CGI. I am not opposed to CGI in any way but there has got to be a line where they should just decide to do the gooey bits old school when the budget doesn't allow for top notch CGI. Have a few pints of vodka and enjoy. CHEERS

I know the 1980s are over and action films are not what they used to be, but I have to feel sorry for Dolph. Not only for being in this film, but being used to sell it. Without his name attached, this might never have gotten Anchor Bay's attention (and we might all be better off).

Early on the camera work is terrible. This improves, but the plot never does. I mean, nothing really new or different happening here. I did like the robots and thought it was clever to use robots against zombies (or whatever they are)... but that was not enough to make up for everything else.

This movie does what I have always wished zombie movies would do. Make the men fighting the zombies competent but not superhuman. The "good guys" shoot with accuracy and don't waste ammo. They also don't just stand still and let the zombies eat them - they fight like their lives depend on it! When they do die the soldiers/mercs die because even though they fought well they were simply over run by superior numbers not because of total complete incompetence which is the standard for 99% of zombie flicks.

Most movies like this have some sort of special forces or organized shock troops that go into battle against the zombies and then just slowly take random unaimed volleys into the zombie crowds with little or no effect and then die pointlessly- their entire lives full of training and discipline completely forgotten and unused- VERY unrealistic. This movie doesn't do that- it is the complete 180 degree opposite and makes you like the characters and want them to live! Fun movie for action and sci-fi fans.

The idea of throwing in killer robots is certainly novel. The idea could even work if there were competent filmmakers involved. Or, failing that, a decent budget. No matter how many direct-to-video zombie movies you watch, it's unlikely you'll see more than a few killer robots show up.

What we get, though, are some pretty watchable scenes interspersed with terrible stunt work and lots of shaky cam. This is definitely the wrong movie to watch if you hate shaky cam. Dolph plays his standard character in this movie, but it's a cool character.

Surprisingly, some of the other actors had decent enough scenes, too -- enough that I started to think that this might turn into one of Dolph's hidden gems. Then the shaky cam and terrible stunt work came back, and I lost hope again. It's really frustrating and kills every action scene.

If you've already seen all of Dolph's other direct-to-video movies twice now, I guess you could be forgiven for wanting to see this one. However, you're better off just going back and rewatching one of the better movies. I suggest Don't Kill It, which was both funny and gory.

For Dolph completionists and super-fans only. It's watchable, and it's certainly better than some of the stuff I've seen on streaming services, but if you don't have a tattoo of Dolph somewhere, you can feel free to skip over this movie.

I was curious to watch this film and I was expecting it to be a real tragedy. Nevertheless I was wrong. First of all, I would like to mention that this is an 100% b movie, not only in terms of budget but also in terms of plot, acting and effects. If you do not stand this facts do not bother with it. Acting is mediocre, effects are not of the best quality and the zombies are sometimes funny. However, the idea is original: what would happen if robots were pitted against zombies and Lundgren was somewhere between? If you like to spend sometime and forget about your everyday problems by watching a brainless, non plot action movie like this, then....why not?

Awful, slipshod film another entry in the " Zombie Epidemic"genre but in this case and as various characters say a few times in the film, these are not zombies.They are infected, they can be killed by being shot anywhere, not just in the head or anyhow, stabbed, blown up etc, the only thing they have in common with zombies is they eat flesh.Film as you would expect " borrows" liberally from other films such as " World War Z" and "28 Days Later" both much better films than this.Even has the audacity to copy characters from "Day Of The Dead" and " Land Of The Dead".Dolph Lundgren looks old and bored and acts accordingly, and so will you be. The only interesting thing is the robots that walk around killing zombies, they are quite good. Poor film to say the least.

I was prepared for some serious action, some killing, shooting, skullsmashing, bonebreaking, and other "gourmet" stuff action, and i got it all. But the quality was very low. i watched many movies with predictable outcomes, and the whole umbrella slideshow of movies, and this one was even worse, than the last mila jovovic's zombie killing spree. The CGI was very low quality, and if you say you can make better effects in some iPhone app, i would believe you. The robots were okay, but the gunshots and shooting really not believable, as all the zombie killings. Shaky camera didn't save the action parts of this movie and the cheesy dialogs didn't help the atmosphere either. Sometimes i just didn't care enough for the characters to survive or what they would even say, and who will turn out to be the bad guy. Not even worth the popcorn i wanted to eat with it but thankfully i didn't and saved for a better movie. For all you action junkies, avoid this one. Dolph is reaaaaaaaaally old now and he should be running. Should make only still shots and no action movies, because he really can't move and kick, and smash and any other quick movements like in the old days of Red Scorpion. I didn't get it. why he did this movie. But hey, you gotta pay the rent somehow!
