Had potential

Watched this movie because the story sounded fun and the cover looked cool. The movie lacks good acting from it's 2 main characters, although they still did a decent job. Scenes went on longer than they should have at times.

It also suffered from some pacing issues. They tried to add more depth to characters when they really didn't need to.

I would recommend this movie to someone who is trying to ease their child or friend into the horror genre.

Props to actor Halem Medina who played Steve and Monica Moore Smith who played Stephanie. They were the best 2 actors in the movie in my opinion.

"Curse Of Crom" had a lot of potential I just think it wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Not great, but not bad

It was a fun ride but watching 30 something actors playing scared high schoolers takes the edge off the spooky vibe. The monster is kinda cheesy, but the atmosphere is set up pretty well and the climax moments are pretty effective. For a no-name semi professional production company it was worth watching! The acting was pretty good and fairly believable with the main character being played convincingly by the lead actress. The only wooden portrayal seems to have come from the lead male actor who looks to be the oldest teenage in cinematic history who also seemed to be oblivious to the pretty overt love triangle that becomes apparent within the first ten minutes of the movie.. Sorry I watched it? No, not at all. Would I watch it again? Heck no!

Very Decent Teen Horror

This PG-13 style horror movie is surprisingly not dumb. I don't know why, but despite the low budget and tired mythology Curse of Crom is entertaining and fun for a light watch. It is reminiscent of silly horror movies of the 1980s like The Gremlins or Ghoulies. I would not recommend it outside of the Halloween season, though - its charm is limited to holiday specific movies.

A group of high school students are just average people, they aren't obnoxious and disposable like slasher characters. The main character Mary has the WORST Republican step-dad in the world, though. Can you imagine telling a 17 year old to drive for Door Dash every night to pay for college, he tries to force her to skip hanging out with friends or celebrating Halloween. I kind of wish he met a different end, to be honest.

Don't believe the positive reviews, just watch ANYTHING else

Out of respect for the people who worked on this low budget piece of crap movie, I give it three stars. But literally everything about it was terrible. If my review below won't convince you not to watch this movie, suit yourself, but I had to rant about how bad this was to get it out of my system :') which is also a sign of how extremely bad it was.

Music/backgroundnoises sounded like a child on a spooky synth keyboard. Acting so horrible it makes you physically cringe. The acting by the two main characters (the girl and boy teens) isn't the worst I've seen in lowbudget, but everyone else had the actingskills of a pornstar. The characters say the stupidest sht and do things in the strangest way, so the script seemed like a 10 year old's fanfiction... And the unnecessary family drama sideplot was so ridiculous!

The story sounded cool, an ancient Irish demon/monster chasing a bunch of teenagers. Original, sounds fun, you don't see many Irish demon movies. So I started watching, but immediately felt that typical low budget "acting is wooden and everything looks as if it's filmed with a cheap phonecamera" kinda thing. I looked it up on imdb and saw it got a 5,8 - not that bad for a B-horrorflick, I thought, because horror movies are generally rated lower than other genres - and (rounded up) a 6 usually means the movie isn't great but it's not bad either. Oooh, was it bad!

An amusing low budget halloween horror flick

I liked it. It's definitely not the best Halloween horror ever, but it's in an almost friendly and understated way entertaining. This is mainly thanks to the often deadpan humor with according funny dialogues and situations, and the overall good acting by the main cast. Chelsea Jurkiewicz is endearing as intelligent and exasperated Mary; Tanner Gillmann as bff Harvey is an absolute comic talent (and cute as a puppy!); and a special mention to Monica Moore Smith as the pristine and bewildered Stephanie. The story itself is a bit farfetched and complicated (an ancient Halloween demon pops up for some reason and has to be destroyed), but the sinister atmosphere with a ditto score is very effective. When the monster itself appears it's almost like looking at an ancient 60's horror flick, with someone in rubber suit in stead of topnotch CGI, but somehow that did't mar my appreciation, it gave it all a pleasant retro feel.

Not good

I dunno what the reviewers here were on when talking about this movie - it's not good. Some of the intentional comedy was ok but the vast majority of the movie is just...nothing happening.

It repeats scenes over and over, the actors are clearly in their mid 30s playing high school characters, there was basically no gore or blood especially on screen, and the whole thing seems like it was made by some random guy and his friends.

I kept for something, anything to happen! It never did. I give it a few points for trying to use the old Irish folklore where most Halloween traditions came from - but even that was a dud and went nowhere. Pass on this, even as a background movie during spooky season it doesn't work...

Fun with Good Story!

It's not the most scary or intense horror films, and it can feel a little like a horror comedy at points. This film was so much fun, and obviously didn't take itself too seriously. So it did make me giggle, and smile.

But also I love the older myths, and this had a lot of story. I thought it had good ways of bringing the old myths up into the plot. It really doesn't have the best special effects either, but the film has a lot of soul, and it's very fun. So it was easy to look past the imperfections, when everything else about the film is really enjoyable.

The characters are not unlikeable either.

Watchable, but bland...

Given my love and fascination with the horror genre, of course I opted to watch the 2022 movie "Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween", as I had the chance to do so here in 2025. Sure, I had never heard about the movie prior to watching it, but I was lured in by the movie's cover, and the fact that I had never heard about it.

The movie started out well enough, but sort of flatted out about halfway through and slipped into a slump, one from which the narrative never recovered. Sure, it was a watchable enough movie for what it was, but it was hardly an outstanding horror movie. The concept idea behind the story was definitely interesting, and the synopsis sounded promising, but the execution from script to screen just wasn't all that impressive.

I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie. I will say that the acting performances in the movie were fair.

Visually then the movie was okay. It wasn't a movie that made a whole lot usage of special effects. But the special effects that were in the movie were actually fair.

Watchable a single time, but this movie hardly warrants more than just a single viewing. Is it a movie that I would recommend horror fans to rush out and get to watch? Hardly so.

My rating of director Rob York's 2022 movie "Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween" lands on a four out of ten stars.

An American Halloween tale that gives you Goosebumps

In a small town in northern Utah, a high school senior (Chelsea Jurkiewicz) is troubled by the tragedy of a cantankerous old neighbor. She and her friends soon discover that an ancient Irish entity is unleashed and they must stop it before midnight on Halloween. But how?

"Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween" (2022) was based on a story by R. H. Grimly, who grew up on R. L. Stine's Goosebumps, Wait Till Helen Comes, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with the goal of getting kids into reading and scare them while doing it. As such, this is kid-friendly in that there's no sleaze or buckets of gore, but it's definitely still an amusing Halloween-oriented horror flick with the required spooky staples, even frightening in a comic book way.

Jurkiewicz works well as the protagonist, but she's clearly years older than 17 (she was almost 23 during shooting and looked closer to 30). Blonde Monica Moore Smith is attractive as the amusing Stephanie while redhead Ariana Bagley is worth a mention as Georgia. On the other side of the gender spectrum, Tanner Gillman (Harvey) and Halem Medina (Steve) are effective as friends of the girls.

The flick runs 1 hour, 32 minutes, and was shot in Utah.

Not so good

The first thing I noticed is how pretty bad is the acting, it feels stiff, like some kind of student project. Some characters just don't fit in, and the worst of them is Steve. His acting is a disaster. I get what they were going for, that whole fun group vibe with one goofy stoner-type guy, but Steve just comes off as unnecessary and weird. The visual effects are passable, but honestly, they could've been way better considering today's technology. Even the sound isn't that great. I don't know, this just doesn't work for me. The story is all over the place, and with bad acting on top of that, it just makes everything feel messy.

Family fun Halloween movie

A little spooky, a little cheesy, and a lot of fun to watch. There are parts that will be scary for young children, but for the most part it is a fun, spooky, family friendly Halloween movie. Comedic relief is scattered throughout One of my favorite parts is when a scared teenage guy pauses to grab his food off of the table before running off to hide, but leaves his cell phone behind. My son would totally do that.

If you're looking for a serious scary movie, this is not it.

If you're a parent looking for a "safe" Halloween movie for your kids, or anyone looking for something good, clean and not dark (albeit spooky and with demons) to watch, this is your movie.

Fun Throwback Halloween Fantasy Adventure

I very much enjoyed this film, knowing nothing about it other than it was going to be about Halloween and feature practical effects.

I popped it into the Blu-ray player expecting some B-movie cheese and ended up watching a real movie. The story is more of a fantasy adventure than a horror film, which is just fine if you know that going in. The movie is family friendly, which isn't something I look for, but it definitely helped lend this a touch of Spielbergian charm.

The young cast is superb. I'd never heard of any of them before, but I hope they all go onto to bigger and better things.

The real highlight for me was the performance of star Chelsea Jurkiewicz. I never felt like I was watching a character, just a sweet girl caught up in a crazy home movie. She has a charm I can't describe, and I need to see more of her performances immediately.

Hidden Gem on Tubi. - Spooky fun with a great cast

Randomly picked this movie with zero knowledge or expectations, and it delivered brilliantly! Word of advice, turn off closed captions to avoid hints during some scenes. But yeah, this was just a fun, slightly spooky, good for the whole family type of movie. Zero blood, no nightmare inducing murder clowns, no serial killers... just a ghostly monster and a gang of teena to solve a mystery. Me and my oldest enjoyed the heck out of it. Highly recommended to anybody who wants some Halloween fun. The naturalistic acting was great, even when they cranked up the comic relief, it was just the right balance of serious and comedy. Just watch it, you'll enjoy it.

Goofy Halloween fun

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the script was actually improved as it was just natural, fun, and bad. It's been a long time that a low production movie has made me laugh and smile this much.

Don't expect to be scared, but expect to laugh at the actors being scared.

If I was convinced that the actors were intentionally acting poorly on purpose I would have given it 10 stars. There performances were perfect for the quality of the production.

It has just the right mix of good and bad to be a cult hit. I know I plan on watching it again. I'm still smiling thinking about it.

Just sit back and enjoy the bad.

Thoroughly enjoyable comedy horror

I didn't know what to expect but I was kind of in the mood for a horror movie when I came across this. I saw the trailer and it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a go. I always like movies involving Halloween. Though it definitely had horror elements and some creepy parts, for me hands down it was the cast, the acting, script and the comedy. There were several laugh out loud moments for me and I thought the writing was very well done. The male actor Tanner stole the movie imo. His delivery was spot on and the rest of the cast did very well too. It was a very well written script which made the comedy come out. The scene where the entity is coming for him and he first decides to grab the sandwich he just made previously was hysterical. His facial expressions and timing was just brilliant. For an indie film I was very impressed. Again I was not expecting anything and was very pleasantly surprised.

SLEEPER Family friendly hit

I watch TONS of horror movies and horror adjacent programming. This landed somewhere between an RL Stine flick and a great 80s creature feature. Worth the watch, and no gore, so while it is scary (and fun and genuinely funny) I'd say it's also kid friendly. Maybe 7 and up? I don't know my standards are way off because I grew up watching stuff like this. I don't even know what this movie is rated. EITHER WAY. Give it a watch. If you're a fan of FUN horror (monster squad style) this is for you. It's creepy enough, the monster is done using what looks like mostly practical effects. Especially the close ups. Very very cool. I watched it on Tubi, which has been a great place to see some awesome horror this season.

Superb Halloween Movie for the Whole Family

A great choice for Family Movie Night during the Halloween season. Great laugh out loud moments and some fun jump scares. It will get you in the spirit of Halloween without giving you nightmares and it wont annoy you like some family Halloween choices that are out there. It is a bit cheesy but I felt like it added to the charm of the story rather than distracting from it. If ever I am delivering food and someone asks me to leave it on the door step, I am going to leave it on the door step...Opened.

Overall my whole family liked it and we look forward to watching it again for many Halloweens to come.

Reminiscent of some of my favorites

A fun Halloween movie that draws inspiration from '80s creature features with practical effects. Creature-y-ness like Pumpkinhead, spooky autumn atmosphere like Halloween 3, and some of the levity of a Disney Channel original (but funnier). Safe to watch with your family, but plenty creepy if Halloween vibes are your thing. Also, if you like light exploration of lore you'll have some fun with that in this movie. The characters are dynamic and well-performed. The drama is a little stretched in the final showdown, but the display of practical visual effects more than makes up for it. Overall a fun time, and a great family watch for Halloween.

Watch out for Crom

Always watch for Crom. You never know when you'll see him. Be careful out there. Sometimes it's not as safe out there, even in your own home. Crom knows who you are and where you live. He will come for you when you least expect it. Always believe when your friend tells you a story that is a little hard to believe...they may have some experience.

This is a fun movie. It reminds me of an old time Halloween movie updated for the 21st Century. Chelsea and Tanner make a great couple. They have really great chemistry... and I'm not just talking about their classes in school. They should make more movies together.

A good movie for kids and up, bringing Halloween to a personal level!

Kickstarter: 293 backers pledged $21,000 to help bring this project to life. Last updated March 2, 2023. The project was to go beyond the done streaming and produce blueray/dvd disks (and a very few VHS - I got one! ) I watched my signed blueray last night and was very pleased with the movie. It's a good movie for kids and adults with a very low on screen body count. The age old question, why is this happening to me....now? Well, being of Irish decent is not always fun (fortunately I am also a Scot which is always fun)...kids grow up, ask questions.... Mary (Chelsea Jurkiewicz) is having to save money for college so she is working as a delivery (mostly food) person and gets together with her friends when she can....the subject of tips and tipping becomes important to her future...(I also notice she leaves the door of the car open so it is lighted when she does comes back, nice safety touch.)....as Halloween approaches things take a darker turn, it's time to grow up...Enjoy.

Spooky fun for Halloween season

This is a fun movie that really oozes with Halloween spooky vibes. Lo-fi practical effects are used rather than CGI and really give it a classic 80's or early 90's vibe (along with a sort of Carpenter-esque soundtrack), and the humor is pretty fun.

Keep in mind this isn't a gruesome or terrifying movie, it's more like a scarier Goosebumps episode that you could watch with youngsters and still enjoy yourself. It does have an overall spooky atmosphere and a couple of jump scares, so it's nice to see a kids horror film that's not wall-to-wall humor and silliness.

The main character plays it pretty straight forward, with her friends acting as the wacky and weird sidekicks, and it gave me quite a few laughs. Especially everything to do with the cat.

Highlights: -Overall Halloween vibes -The dead cat -Weird sandwiches -The practical monster effects -The Rock lookalike

Think it'll probably make my Halloween rotation.

A pleasant surprise

This was a pleasant surprise since I've never heard of it before. The pacing was great and it had some really spooky situations. The monster was practical not cgi, which is always a plus for me. A food delivery driver and her Harry Styles lookin' friend conjure up an Irish demon by mistake. My one complaint is that Irish stereotype jokes are still acceptable in films.
