It was shot from May to August 2022 in the south of France. Locations include the Sainte-Croix beach in Martigues, but also Toulon. The producers looked for the house on the beach but couldn't find what they wanted, so they found the beach they wanted and built the house there as a big prop.
Director Yann Gozlan researched a lot before making the movie. He wanted the cockpit scenes to be as realistic as possible, as they were the entry point in the movie before it becomes more dream-like.
Several pilots told him they had some trouble sleeping, and so resorted to a powerful sleeping pill called Stilnox. He couldn't use the name so he made up "Nyxstill" for the movie.
It was selected to be screened at the 16th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival. It has its world premiere there on 24 August 2023, two weeks before its wide release in France.
The opening credits were envisioned as a transition for the audience between their lives and the film's universe. He chose macro pictures of human and animal eyes, because, according to him:
- the movie is called "Visions";
- the main character's job relies on her having a perfect sight;
- the eye leitmotiv is used a lot in the movie;
- the eye is the door to the psyche and the unconscious.
First French movie for Diane Kruger since Tout nous sépare (2017). Her career was obviously impacted by the pandemic and the lockdowns, but she also wanted to spend time with her kid and her husband, American actor Norman Reedus, which kept her away from France.
