Hulu has given a pilot order to a series adaptation of Nash Jenkins’ 2023 novel “Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.” Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran write and executive produce the teen mystery series.
Set at a boarding school on the East Coast, the project “explores privilege, scandal, sexuality and masculinity amid the rise of social media, millennial anxiety and pharmaceuticals,” per Hulu’s official logline. The book is narrated by an unnamed student of the boarding school who moves into a dorm room once occupied by Foster Dade, who had transferred to the boarding school in 2008 but was later expelled due to a scandal that the narrator investigates over the course of years.
Berlanti is one of Hollywood’s most prolific producers and is especially known for his work on teen dramas and within the DC universe. Among his prominent credits are “Dawson’s Creek,” “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Riverdale,” “You” and “All American.

Dave Flebotte, the Emmy-nominated writer and producer who worked on Tulsa King, Desperate Housewives, Boardwalk Empire and The PJs, has died after a long battle with cystic fibrosis. He was 65.
Flebotte died Tuesday in a hospital in Missoula, Montana, his wife, Sandra Lindqvist, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Writing to him was everything,” she said.
Flebotte was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a youngster and was told he wouldn’t live past age 12, his wife said. He had a double lung transplant 28 years ago.
The son of a bookie, Flebotte was born in Hanson, Massachusetts. A teacher at Emerson College persuaded him to pursue a career in writing, and he began in Hollywood in the 1990s, working on TV comedies including Good Advice, The 5 Mrs. Buchanans, Ellen and Suddenly Susan.
From 1999-2000, he wrote a handful of episodes and produced the Eddie Murphy co-created Fox animated show The PJs, which earned him an Emmy nom.

Although its main characters may be able to fib their way around a beach town, there’s no way for We Were Liars to trick its way out of a Rotten Tomatoes score. And for this, it seems like critics are pretty split down the middle, as the debut series of the Prime Video series has landed a 75% critics’ approval rating on the online platform. Book adaptations are a tricky thing to get right — just ask the cast and crew of the Nicole Kidman-led Hulu series, Nine Perfect Strangers, which came in quite a way behind We Were Liars with a 52% critics’ approval rating. But there’s still some wiggle room for the new title to improve its score or possibly lower it, as it just arrived on the streamer one day ago.

Veteran actress Julianne Nicholson has been giving “Performance” for decades. The fact that she was recognized with IndieWire’s Performance Honor on June 5 feels like an overdue given. With her delicious antagonist role as Samantha “Sinatra” Redmond in “Paradise,” it seems like Nicholson is finally gaining the higher profile she has so long deserved. But, during her acceptance speech, Nicholson used her time to expand on her love for IndieWire.
“Thank you to IndieWire for this recognition and being a champion of me and my work over the years,” Nicholson said. “I believe in trying to find roles that defy stereotypes, that try to show life as it really is, not as we wish it were. I’m from Boston, but my formative years were in New York, and I’ve always cared for the underdog — for the scrappy, the perverse, the weird, the unorthodox — and I think by and large,...

It's safe to say that, throughout Hulu's new original series "Paradise", a lot of stuff happens in the show's first season, which spans eight episodes and imagines a world where a private community lives in a Colorado bunker after an apocalyptic event. We spend the majority of our time with Brown's Secret Service agent Xavier Collins, who discovers that his boss, President Cal Bradford (James Marsden), has been murdered in the very first episode ... but Samantha Redmond, a woman who goes by the name "Sinatra" and runs the bunker largely because she's the richest person who lives there, is also a very important character.
Sinatra is played by Julianne Nicholson, a Hollywood veteran who's been appearing in projects since she got her start in ABC drama "Nothing Sacred" in a one-episode role in 1997. Since then, Nicholson has appeared in everything from "Ally McBeal" to "Masters of Sex" to...

For Lizzy Caplan, joining Netflix’s “Zero Day” was an easy decision to make, citing Robert De Niro’s involvement, as well as the “solid” credentials of co-creators Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and Michael Schmidt.
“I love a political thriller. I really love being in New York,” she added. “So it was as close to a no brainer as you can get.”
Caplan portrays George Mullen’s (De Niro) daughter, Alexandra, who is a young New York congresswoman working hard to distance herself from her father’s political legacy and establish herself in her own right. When asked about playing De Niro’s TV daughter, Caplan said it was a “truly amazing” experience.
“I keep thinking that I would have been perfectly content and felt very lucky to have just been in the background of some of his scenes with some of the other actors in this,” she said. “So...

Netflix’s latest political thriller, Zero Day, is one of the most star-studded small-screen ventures released this year, chock-full of A-list actors. Setting aside the narrative, which is intriguing enough to keep the viewers hooked anyway, the sheer star power is bound to make you binge the whole series in one go irrespective of whether you like political thrillers or not. Zero Day focuses on the aftermath of a cyberterrorism incident, which leads to the creation of a special commission with the power to negate people’s right to freedom. Abuse of such power to suppress opposing voices raises concerns about the rise of fascistic tendencies, a fear that manifests itself when the truth is finally revealed about the attack being orchestrated by the very elected officials entrusted to serve the people themselves. Needless to say, a gripping narrative such as this needs backing up with strong acting, and the...

If you take a look at all the atrocities that have been committed by the United States of America, you’ll instantly stop eating up their “greatest nation in the world” propaganda, if you haven’t already. The country’s army unleashed unspeakable horrors upon the nation of Vietnam and then went on to make movies and TV shows about how that experience scarred American soldiers as if that’s what needed to be talked about that period. During the Gulf War, they bombed Iraq and then made movies and TV shows about how that gave American soldiers Ptsd and whatnot. Then 9/11 happened, and the Americans began the Second Gulf War, which went on from 2003 to 2011 and then from 2014 to 2021. They invaded Afghanistan and kept the country under their thumb from 2001 to 2021. They took countless lives in Syria, Yemen, and many other regions, with estimates putting the casualties in the millions.

Fresh off the success of Max's hit original medical drama procedural The Pitt, Netflix will next stop up to the plate with its first English-language medical procedural Pulse. While Max's breakout series follows a team of emergency room doctors throughout one 15-hour shift, Pulse takes a page out of Grey's Anatomy's book and finds the doctors mixing business with pleasure.
On Feb. 18, Netflix formally announced Pulse complete with a release date and first-look images of Willa Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell, Justina Machado and the rest of the cast in action. All 10 episodes of the first season will drop on Thursday, April 3 on Netflix. Unlike The Pitt, Pulse isn't a medical drama you will have to wait to watch weekly. A long-time casting director-cum-acting coach is hoping to offer a fresh perspective for actors whose confidence may have been shaken after watching a viral interview with an Atlanta casting director who admitted to only devoting four seconds to self-tapes.
Risa Bramon Garcia, whose vast credits include casting The Affair, Masters of Sex, JFK and Fatal Attraction, filmed her own video for social media that acknowledges last week’s “insensitive” discussion between CDs Rhavynn Drummer and Tiffany Roshae. In the now-deleted video, Drummer laughs out loud as she listens to fellow casting director Roshae admitting to giving very little time to audition tapes.
“I’m dead serious,” Roshae, whose credits include the BET limited series Zatima, tells Drummer. “Does it take eight seconds to figure out if it’s a man or a woman? Does it take 10 seconds to figure out if it’s an Amazon driver or a surgeon? No.

Hulu's new series, Paradise, has only aired a few episodes so far, but it's already clear that Julianne Nicholson's character, Samantha/Sinatra, is one of the most intriguing parts of the show. The more we get to know about her background (a billionaire owner of a start-up who had a young son who tragically passed away), the more fascinating and mysterious her character has become. Sinatra is obviously pulling the strings in the town, but is she a true villain or a woman who has simply been molded by trauma? No matter who she turns out to be, the character is a compelling part of the series because of the immensely talented actor who plays her. In fact, with roles in projects such as Boardwalk Empire, Masters of Sex, and The Outsider, Nicholson is no stranger to playing powerful and complex women. But her true breakout role was...

The brutal new Western, American Primeval, stars Betty Gilpin, in a role that is drastically different from her most famous character in Glow. Gilpin has been acting since 2008, but her career break came through playing the polarizing Dr. Carrie Roman in Nurse Jackie. Gilpin's career rose throughout the 2010s, with appearances in Elementary and Masters of Sex, before playing the soap star Debbie Eagan (a.k.a. Liberty Belle) in Glow. American Primeval is one of the best Westerns on Netflix, but as many of Gilpin's previous roles have been in dramas, this treads new ground for her.
Westerns like Yellowstone tend to be more like soaps, casting the reality of the American Wild West in a softer light. That said, American Primeval verges on horror at times and is not afraid to show gore. Though the series appears to start with the story of a woman and her son...

While the vampire Selene is often Underworlds main protagonist, Michael Sheens Lucian is a compelling and formidable character who is severely underrated. In the dark urban fantasy franchise, which pits vampires against werewolves, Sheen appeared in Underworld (2003) and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009). Despite their thrilling high-octane fight sequences and impressive special effects, neither movie was a hit with critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Underworld holds a score of 31%, with Rise of the Lycans at 30%. Even so, Sheen has never been accused of phoning in a performance, and his portrayal of Lucian is no exception.
