Sandler told E! News, reflecting on the surreal joy of watching his daughters perform:

It must be like when you’re the parents of a baseball player and you’re at the game and they get a hit. You just go, ‘Thank God.’ It’s just so much relief.

Happy Gilmore 2 marks a comeback decades in the making, and it’s shaping up to be more than just nostalgic golf banter. Returning stars are Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin), Julie Bowen, and new...

Happy Gilmore 2 Director Wants To Do A Sequel To Adam Sandler's $58M Box Office Disappointment
Image
The director of Happy Gilmore 2 has revealed what Adam Sandler movie he would like to make a sequel to next. Although he is best known for feature-length comedies, Sandler got his start as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, which was a stint that ran from 1990 to 1995.

Two early Adam Sandler movies were his key to finding big screen success. The first was 1995's Billy Madison, in which he played a man who has 24 weeks to graduate grades 1 through 12, and the second was 1996's Happy Gilmore, in which he played a vulgar hockey player who becomes a golf sensation.

From there, he went on to star in a number of prominent movies, including the rom-coms 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer, the dramas Uncut Gems and Hustle, and the Netflix comedies Murder Mystery, Murder Mystery 2, Hubie Halloween, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.

Image
Julie Bowen is more than happy to be reprising one of her her roles 30 years later for the upcoming sequel “Happy Gilmore 2.” Bowen starred in the 1996 original film as Virginia Venit, a representative for the professional golf tour that Adam Sandler’s titular character joins on a whim. Virginia (Bowen) is also the romantic interest of Happy (Sandler).

When it came to the long-awaited sequel, though, Bowen was shocked to be asked to return. “I didn’t think they’d bring me back at all,” Bowen said during the “Inside of You” podcast, as reported by Variety. “I mean, who am I supposed to be? He’s got to have a younger woman in this one, ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’”

However, Sandler assured Bowen that Virginia is the “heart of the movie” even though Bowen noted she has less screentime than in the first film. “Adam’s like, ‘Stop saying that.

Dora’s Back on Screen, but Isabela Merced’s Shoes May Be Too Big To Fill
Image
After over 2 decades of enthralling young audiences, Dora the Explorer is all set to return in a bold new live-action reboot: one without Isabela Merced, sadly. Slated for a 2025 release, the live-action film titled Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is all set to reintroduce the much-loved explorer with a fresh face, Samantha Lorraine.

This news has received mixed reactions, with some hesitation from longtime fans. That’s because in 2019, Merced gave a widely lauded performance in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, perfectly embodying the humor, heart, and heritage of the legendary character.

While Lorraine’s casting does promise a fresh look at Dora, it also raises some inevitable doubt: will she be able to truly capture a charm similar to what Merced brought to the role?

Isabela Merced’s charismatic portrayal

When Dora and the Lost City of Gold was released in 2019, it didn’t feel...

You don’t have to be a teen girl to love these funny, emotional rides.

It made this list (keep reading to find out where it landed), and it also put me in the mood for other funny, female coming-of-age stories worth checking out. If you’re into movies that explore this messy, awkward, and chaotic time in life (that are also super relatable), these are seven of the best female teen movies you can stream right now.

Top 7 female coming-of-age comedies on streaming right now.

No. 7: ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’

These Adam Sandler Movies All Have the Same Easter Egg
Image
Adam Sandler is one of his generation's most iconic comedy actors. His early works, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, etc., are among the most well-known and acclaimed. While later movies have seen a more "mixed" critical reception, Sandler has no doubt made his mark. But what if there was a secret Easter egg in several of his movies? And what if that Easter egg was hidden in plain sight?

In several Sandman pictures, his female love interest has the initials "Vv." There's Veronica Vaughn, Virginia Venit, Vicki Vallencourt, and more. But not every onscreen partner has these initials, so what's the story with the ones that do? Have we stumbled down some new conspiracy theory rabbit hole? Is "Vv" a secret sign warning of what's to come? Or is it just Sandler being Sandler and making up funny names? In all likelihood, the latter is the case.

Adam Sandler Makes Surprise Return to ‘SNL’ in Bloody Sketch Torturing His Buddy Chris Rock

Adam Sandler was met with a roar of applause from the “Saturday Night Live” audience when he dropped into a bloody hospital sketch during the Dec. 14 episode.

In the sketch, Emil Wakim, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang and host Chris Rock play surgeons all scrubbed in and celebrating a successful surgery. But a less-than-responsible surgeon, played by Sarah Sherman, admits she screwed up her pre-op paperwork and the patient’s gallbladder was removed instead of his appendix.

While the medical team is shocked, Rock’s surgical lead asks the team not to be too hard on her, when the previously-covered patient sits up on the bed, revealing Sandler. His appearance leads to fake blood flying all over the cast, and he pressures Rock to open his mouth to stop the gushing. Safdie’s Adam Sandler: Love You trailer finds the Sandman in good spirits as he returns to the stage for a fresh stand-up act. Adam Sandler: Love You premieres on August 27, 2024, globally on Netflix.

“You guys are the best! I love you! I need you! Help me,” Sandler shouts to a packed venue as he takes to the dimly lit stage in the Adam Sandler: Love You trailer. Sandler, forever the center of attention, finds himself signing jerseys backstage, tuning his guitar, and wondering how the f**k dog managed to steal his spotlight. Adam Sandler Returns With New Netflix Comedy Special in August | Video
Adam Sandler
Nearly six years after the release of his last comedy special, Adam Sandler is returning to Netflix with “Adam Sandler: Love You.” The comedy special directed by “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” co-director Josh Safdie will premiere globally on the streamer Aug. 27.

The first trailer for the special shows Sandler in a surprisingly intimate theater rather than a large arena. After joking with the audience a bit, he gets down to the brass tacks of what everyone can expect.

“Anyway, I talk a lot and then I sing and then we do a bunch of s–t. All right, so here it goes,” Sandler says.

The ever-moving camera then cuts between Sandler onstage with mic in hand, closeups of him signing shirts and a car driving away as its being chased by a crowd of people. “We’ve lost control,” Sandler says as a dog appears from backstage and happily greets the audience.

Sure, Happy Gilmore 2 Sounds Fun - But Adam Sandler's Best Movie Future Is Being Ignored
Image
Sandler shines in dramatic roles like Uncut Gems, proving he's more than just a comedy legend. Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix continues Sandler's streak of diverse roles, mixing comedies and dramas. Sandler's future includes more collaborations with top directors, hinting at even more dramatic roles ahead.

The announcement of Happy Gilmore 2 is certainly exciting, but Sandler's recent streak of dramatic roles shows even more promise for the celebrated actor. Sandler has starred in some of the greatest comedies of all time, becoming a dominant force in the comedy world during the 1990s and 2000s with classic films such as Billy Madison, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and of course, Happy Gilmore. As Sandler has gotten older, however, he has focused more intently on starring in dramas such as 2022's Hustle.

Sandler first demonstrated he had a natural ability to star in dramatic roles in Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love...

‘Happy Gilmore’ Sequel Greenlighted At Netflix
Image
Netflix has given an official order to the Happy Gilmore sequel recently teased as being in the works, Deadline has confirmed.

The streamer made the announcement during its Upfront presentation on Wednesday, confirming that Adam Sandler is set to return as the golfer that gives the classic comedy its name. No word of a logline or other attachments for the moment.

Actor Christopher McDonald, who played Gilmore’s pro golfer nemesis Shooter McGavin, was first to get word out about the project with comments made in March. Netflix was a natural destination for it, given Sandler’s longtime deal with the streamer, which has seen him produce and star in titles like The Ridiculous Six, Murder Mystery and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, among others.

One of Sandler’s most popular films — and one of two, along with Billy Madison, that gives its name to his production company,...

Adam Sandler's Worst Movie Ever, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Loving Adam Sandler means making your peace with the actor's wildly inconsistent output. It's not like The Sandman has ever been a critical darling; even during his rise to superstardom in the '90s, "Happy Gilmore" and "The Wedding Singer" were the only movies of his that you could reasonably call well-reviewed (and that's coming from an ardent "Billy Madison" defender). But the films that he's churned out under his Happy Madison Productions, which was founded in 1999, have been all over the place quality-wise. Even most die-hard Sandlites probably wouldn't go to the mattresses over stinkers like "Jack and Jill" and "Grown Ups 2."

That's only become doubly true since Sandler entered his alliance with Netflix in the 2010s. Sometimes, you end up with little more than "content" for viewers to stream and immediately forget, but you can also get remarkably good stuff like "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected...

Adam Sandler's Next Movie Is The Perfect Response To His Disappointing 50% Rotten Netflix Movie
Image
Happy Gilmore 2 is in early development to follow the cult classic original, providing a potential redemption for Sandler's recent movie missteps. Sandler understands the pressure to make Happy Gilmore 2 a success, aiming to bring the right energy and create something audiences will enjoy. There's no guarantee that Happy Gilmore 2 will live up to the hype, as nostalgia sequels can be tricky and may risk tarnishing the legacy of the original.

Adam Sandler is already planning his next movie—the long-anticipated Happy Gilmore 2—and after his last project got a 50% "Rotten" score on Rotten Tomatoes, this sequel is likely the best way to go. The original Happy Gilmore movie was a great success and has since become a cult classic. Naturally, in the decade of reboots and sequels, a continued story for Sandler's Happy has been in high demand. We finally have confirmation that the movie is in the early stages of development,...

Image
Adam Sandler may be revisiting one of his most beloved comedies almost 30 years later.

The “Spaceman” and “Uncut Gems” star is said to have developed a script for “Happy Gilmore 2,” a sequel to his iconic 1996 film. Original actor Christopher McDonald said during Audacy radio show “92.3 The Fan” that he saw a draft of the script.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this,'” McDonald said. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.'”

Why Adam Sandler’s Netflix Western Caused Actors to Walk Off the Set
Image
Although Netflix now dominates the film industry with its monopoly over movie stars and award season, the streaming service first took a risk in making original film projects with Adam Sandler. Sandler’s contract to produce and star in original films for Netflix may have seemed odd in 2015. In hindsight, the “Sandman” appeared to have more insight than anyone into where the industry would head. He has positioned himself to have even more success in the next few years, as Netflix has produced all sorts of projects for Sandler: they’ve even gotten behind Sandler’s unusual dramatic turn in Hustle, his animated family film Leo, his daughters' breakout acting roles in You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, the emotional stand-up special 100% Fresh, and his newest sci-fi drama, Spaceman. However, Sandler’s history with Netflix isn't without its controversies. In fact, Sandler’s first Netflix film, The Ridiculous 6,...

6 Reasons Reviews For Adam Sandler's New Sci-Fi Space Movie Are Mixed
Image
Sandler shines in Netflix's Spaceman, but critics argue he's the glue holding it together. Stunning visuals can't save Spaceman from a lack of depth in its thematic content. Carey Mulligan's talent is underutilized in a film that struggles with its tonal balance.

The first reviews of the new Netflix movie Spaceman have resulted in a split in its overall critical reception. The latest Adam Sandler movie is quite a deviation from his previous straight-to-Netflix movies such as Murder Mystery (2019), Hustle (2022), and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (2023). Spaceman stars Sandler as Jakub Prochazka, an astronaut on a solo mission at the edge of the solar system who encounters an ancient arachnid creature in his ship. Jakub forms an unlikely relationship with the giant spiderlike figure named Hanus, who is voiced by Paul Dano.

Spaceman releases exclusively on Netflix on Friday, March 1, 2024, and also stars Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan.
