This is the wrong Dark Matter

I tried a few more episodes to see if those actions these characters do have any meaning, but they are so far from plausible than the premise. Every time I ask myself why they do what they do, but there is no answer. They are simply stupid! There is no logic in what they do. He is a professor and draws conclusions, but he does stupid things, and that psychologist isn't even better...running into a whiteout...where to?!

They tried a more scientific approach to that 90's series called Sliders, but despite the great effects and ideas the writing is awful and I rather rewatch the other series with the same name than more of this crap.

    Dark Matter

In Dark Matter (2024) Season 1 Episode 4, Jason1 and Amanda gain a better understanding of the dimension-hopping process and Jason's motivations for switching places with Jason1. The Corridor, a comprehensible corridor, makes traveling through the multiverse more believable for viewers. However, it is crucial to be cautious when using the corridor. Jason2 is the only person who understands exactly how The Box works, while Jason1 is a family man and college professor who lacks the necessary knowledge for survival. Jason1 attempts to plan his work and break their task into parts. Amanda, who had trained the test Box pilots at Velocity, crashes on her first flight and ends up stranded in the snow dimension. However, once they locate and dig down to The Box, Jason1 can control what world is behind the door. During their time together, they also uncover other revelations. Amanda realizes that Jason1 shares similar mannerisms to her own Jason, which may be why she chose to rescue him in the third episode. Jason2 and Amanda, Jason2's lovers, decide to replace Jason1 in order to have the family with Daniela, which he had denied himself in his dimension. Jason2 confirms that he came to the world to "fix something" and is on his way to being discovered as an imposter in Jason1's world. On Charlie's 16th birthday, Jason2 doesn't do much research when choosing which Jason to swap with, as he was busy taking a sledgehammer to Jason1's life. Jason2, a scientific celebrity in his world, could not tolerate the indifferent physics students for long. His final class and departure were social-media ages, which is out of character for the meek Jason Dessen. Jason2's disappearance for a year seems more like a break from his former life in research. Leighton1, an old college friend, arrives unexpectedly, surprising Jason2. He is a layabout trust-fund baby with money to burn, having invested in Ryan's venture, which Jason2 declined to participate in. Jason2's head is filled with speculation about a deeper scheme for Leighton1, who has turned homicidal. Jason2 arrives home late with flowers for Daniela and a car for Charlie, who complained about the family vehicle's condition. Daniela is unhappy with not being included in his impulsive decision.

    An uneven episode

This is the longest episode of the series so far and it has a very uneven pacing. The first half drags along very slowly and verges on being boring. Plus, there are a few ridiculous moments. The psychiatrist who trains box pilots to be able to control their mental state completely loses it in that very same situation? They run into a blizzard, and, instead of retracing their very visible steps in the snow immediately, they go off in a random direction hoping for... what exactly? The second part of the episode gets better and the ridiculous moments from the first half turn out to be a very poorly written plot device (I won't spoil anything here); the plot moves forward, but not in a smart and well thought out way.

This episode marks roughly the halfway point of the show. So far it has been interesting enough, and hopefully the remaining episodes will be free of empty filler as much as possible, unlike this one.

The show I signed up for

I'll admit that I got sucked into this show before it started by an excellent interactive ad for it on social media, honestly one of the best ads for a series I've ever seen. I've been watching since the week it premiered on Apple TV, but the first 2 episodes felt slow and it wasn't really holding my attention, requiring multiple stops/starts to finish each of them. Episode 3 picked up with some plot development and exposition ending in exciting fashion, but episode 4 really picked up steam showing us what this show is capable of & delivering the best hour of the show so far.

I love a show that makes you think, so Dark Matter feels right up my alley. The convo with "a shot at the chance untaken" towards the end of the episode was perfect, how that one decision can have an insane ripple effect that changes almost everything about someone's life. This episode continues last week's trend of a captivating ending- even if it wasn't as much of an insane cliffhanger as the previous installment, once again I can't wait for Wednesday.

    can i even continue watching?

Oh man this show is rough and as a physicist it is really punching my buttons in a bad way.

The woman has seen a hundred doors open and suddenly runs out of a random door into some kind of blizzard.

Didn't she see the snow when she opened the door?

And then we see the exact footprints they left in the snow.... Hey, let's go back that way, thought no-one ever in this "Locke And Key" level braindead episode.

Whoever is writing this show is catering it towards room temp IQ audience or is themselves Room Temerpature in the IQ department....

Damn, I'm a bottle of wine in and this episode is STILL giving me the tard vibes.

    • Trivia
Schrödinger's cat makes a symbolic appearance when Jason1 is searching the snow house.
    • Errores
At one point while in the Box Jason uses a satellite telephone to get GPS coordinates. But the whole point of the Box is to isolate the interior completely from even the slightest connection with the outside. GPS signals must not penetrate the Box or else otherwise it could not do its job.
    • Citas

Jason Dessen: We know that the doors in the corridor are connections to infinite parallel universes that seem random. Totally unconnected and uncontrollable. But what if our minds are defining those connections? That they're not random at all? They're... That somehow we are choosing these worlds?

Amanda Lucas: I definitely didn't choose this world.

Jason Dessen: No. Not intentionally, but... what if the worlds are a reflection of our emotional state the moment we open the door?
