Just happened to catch this film from IFFK(International Film Festival of Kerala). This film emerged out to be a favorite of the Festival. I had to fight some crowds to get into the middle row of the theater. Now I can say it was worth every push and pull ! Film's Director Pablo Perelman was spoke a few words before the film about the making of film and how he would like to get a Citizenship in India. I thought he was buttering us just to like his film but that wasn't it. The Film was Spectacular ! Both Entertaining and thought provoking.
In Chile, during the 60's when the country was having an unstable political situation, the son of a poor single mother turns out to be a gifted painter.A man who owns a small drugstore that lies in the outskirts of the small rural town, next to the railroad was the first one to find out about the boy's talent. He himself is an amateur painter. Even though he was intimidated with the boy's talent at first but he soon finds out about the great artist in the boy.
The story is told in the pharmacists point of view where he characterizes each events that led to the boy's discovery and the celebration of his talent.
The Cinematographer Seruel Saldivar did a wonderful job by capturing wonderful images of the town and the paintings. Editing done by Angel Hernandez Zoido was gripping. Casting of the film was excellent. The boy "Augusto" played by Juan José Susacassa did a good job. The Mother "Elvira" played by Veronica Sanchez also did a nice job in displaying various complex emotions. The Pharmacist "Aguiar" played by Daniel Giménez Cacho did an excellent job.
Pablo Perelman did a good job in the screenplay and gave his 100% for the film.
The Film turned out to be a success and would garner more awards and recognition from all over the world. I'm completely satisfied with the film and i'm giving 10/10 for the film! The Painting Lesson will hold on to your heart for sometime and it will give a small ache to it at the end.

for story. for acting. and for the memories about a slice of time. a boy - axis of miracles. a film about art, love, policy. about a society. and, more important, about beauty. in pure form. as ball of sparkles. frame for a state of soul. and a way. a promise. nothing else. shadow of a little silhouette, Augusto is an eulogy to a generation. homage to a country. not extraordinary, not a great movie. one of small pieces about small things. but essentials. must see it ! for a fresh image of world. for the light of faces, delicate portrait of people, expectations and heart of feelings. and, sure, for few drawings and a way to Santiago.
