Well documented

This mini series is very well documented, and a great but shocking watch. If you are interested in a series about cults, you should definitely check this one out. The overall storyline of this documentary is well put together; nothing feels rushed, or stretched out.

Unbelievable

A slow and methodical look at the FLDS, the rise and teachings and finally the scandals. It's hard to understand how people went along with this and even harder to understand how one man has reign over so many people. Wild that people still follow WJ today. Much respect to the women who were willing to speak of their experience.

Sickening

As someone who's a millennial, I was too young when Jeffs was arrested, and as a European this story hasn't crossed my path before. The build up in this docu series is done in a smart way. It starts of absurd, as any religious fanaticism is to me. But you really get to understand how this happens to children born into this. It just gets more maddening and sickening, with the worst at the end. I was left shedding tears in anger of how this suffering exists in this world.

I am also convinced that this is still going on under Jeffs following to this day, which is mind boggling and disgusting to think of. Would have been better if they had ended the show with discussions on how to help end this.. and how to help survivors of this specific problematic sect type cultures. Also, I wonder with the records they found; have they prosecuted more of the men who married the underaged kids?

Other than that; well done Netflix, for showing the bravery of these victims in speaking up.

Wanted more

As a mainstream member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I did enjoy this series, I thought it was moving and represented the victimes well. I just can't help feeling afterwards that after 3+ hours of watching it, they left so much content out. There is so much more out on the internet that shows how much of a monster Warren Jeffs really is. So many of the people in the FLDS don't really know what they are a part of and misrepresenting there leader as anything short of one of the worst people in America is deplorable. This doesn't mean the members of the FLDS are all bad in any way, they were being highly manipulated, but there needs to be some accountability from this documentary towards the leaders of this church and the people that allowed these atrocities to continue for so long.

To me, this is what happens when power, money, and greed get involved in religion and I do not believe that this was hit home hard enough against Jeff's and the other major FLDS leaders.

We think these things are in America's past, but they aren't.

This docuseries is disturbing because it contains tactics of influence used maliciously that we still see today. These events were not 50 or 100 years ago... but in the 2000s! It rings true that any good thing can be twisted by evil and in the FLDS church, it's rampant.

Elissa and the other men and women who have had the tenacity to come forward should know that they truly are saving lives abd families. My heart goes out to all the families who have been separated due to the Jeff men's twisted evil minds.

Blind faith

Ever since the smash hit success of 'making a murderer ' , Netflix is seemingly on a mission to make the multi episode docu series the way we get our documentary thrills.leave the feature lengths versions to the multiplexes and give the public the truth in bite size chunks they seem to be saying. Whilst this format seems to have worked for the aforementioned 'making a murderer ', tiger Kong' etc, the subscription channel has fallen short in this approach when the subject matter hasn't the legs to sustain our interest over multiple hours of viewing. Take the interminably dull 'bad vegan', a story so stretched, it should have been sponsored by spandex or the completely unnecessary 'tiger king ' sequels. 'keep sweet' bucks this trend and if anything is too short. It's tale of a corrupt sect leader and the power he wielded over his followers is too brief. With a scant 46 minutes or one episode devoted to the punishment of his crimes and the subsequent affect it had on congregation. That's not to say the preceding three episodes are over burdened with extraneous detail, on the contary, they are nicely paced and just the right side of informative. Pity the final episode is in too much of a rush to get to the finish line because 'be sweet' had the potential to be one of the most compelling documentary series of the yeah.

Hard to see this in today's world

It's beyond me how people can be brain washed to this extent in today's world. This documentary is absolutely eye opening and sad in so many ways. It actually makes you mad that guys like this can acquire so much power and how he took advantage of so many people. It's definitely worth watching but get ready to be shocked that this kind of crap goes on in our country. Warren needs to be in jail for the rest of his life. A complete idiot that needs to have his ass kicked.... Sorry but that's the way I see it.

I Remember a SLEW of Young Boys...

...also being abused by this freak of nature. It wasn't just little girls he was raping, but little boys as well. So I docked a few stars for that, there is zero mention of the boys: There are definitely documentaries about them, possibly on YouTube.

No ONE person with human emotions can handle any degree of extreme power. Look at so many examples, including those who supposedly are crusaders for justice (cough cough got any more homes for sale in Beverly Hills for the rest of us clowns who marched on your behalf?)

I'm convinced that there is nothing but corrupt people out there, all trying to convince the rest of us to follow some good path or cause: It's all garbage.

Religion is the same, evidently.

This is a really good documentary, I liked hearing from the people themselves...but again, I think the absence of all the little boys was a bit uncool. Little boys are just as helpless as little girls. They ALL deserve protection.

I cried a few times watching this: The women who lost all their children to that cult...KNOWING what is going to happen to them. If that piece of garbage sitting in jail (can someone just off him, ffs??) is telling all the old bald men to diddle the eight year olds...NOTHING changes!!

We need more infiltration. Normally I am one of those who feel that everyone has a right to their own world/fantasy as long as they keep me and mine out of it. But this sort of thing...? It's really hard to stay neutral about it.

4th episode - very hard to watch

Being a true-crime fanatic I've seen many Warren Jeff documentary- so, what will I see that I hadn't seen before?

Well......A LOT!

A plethora if new info.

The term "sister-wives" still makes me cringe a bit.

The last episode was, I believe, the reason they had to put an 18 rating on this. Its hard to watch/listen to.

Besides all of my misgivings, I found the documentary informative and a warning to those who are seeking that something that is missing from their loves.

Somethings aren't always what they crack-up to be.

Hope the children affected are okay.

Scary

It's terrifying to think that these types of practices exist in the modern era and that so many turn a blind eye to it or chalk it up to "none of my business". The documentary is interesting as many Warren Jeffs documentaries are and this will put you down the rabbit hole of similar documentaries.

Missed & omitted too much

I appreciate the work put into this documentary but unfortunately too much was not included regarding Warren Jeffs. Some of that including the rape & molestation of the young boys, as young as 6 years old. Jeffs was a kid in a candy store - he took his pick every night as to who he would rape. His rape of several young boys led to their future suicides; multiple boys ended up killing themselves. I wonder why this chunk was not included.

Hard to watch but important

This was incredibly hard to watch. I'm a native Utahn and EX Mormon and I left the church partly over its history of polygamy and oppression of women and girls. No, the mainstream church isn't this evil, but if Warren Jeffs can spring from what it teaches, it was too close for me. I've seen what religious indoctrination can do and these women are so brave for getting out.

Nuts

Mixed nuts. This is just plain insanity to me that no one ever questions Mormonism for well over 100 years. They were able to isolate themselves in Utah and reproduce by the masses, and see what happens? Some evil men will always turn it into a cult. Abusing women and children because they want to be worshipped like Gods. The epitome of narcissism! Delusional. Idiocy.

When Joseph Smith's cult splits and runs further amok.

Yet another story of how old religions (myths) are twisted and reshaped into other religions (myths) which are further manipulated and become a government sanctioned cult. This is the story of how men use religion (myth) to control people and to destroy them.

DISTURBINGLY DiSGUSTING

Important to see but for me hard to watch. All these people following a MAN. A MAN!!!! This is what a cult will do for you. Glad for those who got out and hope one day those who are still followers will find a better and different path in life. Glad I watched but it left me angry and sad especially for the little girls.

Evil Prey

No it is not a typo - I wrote prey instead of pray, because I meant it that way. Evil can be amongst us - just around us and we may not see it, even if it is right there looking at us. Churches have their fair share of "incidents" - so I reckon you won't be too surprised about the documentary right here.

That being said, that doesn't mean you won't be shocked. Because if you are not, with all the reveals and twists happening ... I don't know what else could shock you. Very mad and crazy to say the least. And even when people were appaled by certain things that happened, he could go on for way too long and affect so many people - and yes I know I am putting it mildly ... a movie that is not easy to stomach but quite important to watch.

Rulon passes down to Warren Jeff's

There aren't enough trigger warnings in the world to prepare you for Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, the harrowing Netflix documentary that chronicles the crimes and capture of polygamist cult leader and child rapist Warren Jeffs. Though the four-part series from director Rachel Dretzin is extremely hard to watch at times, the first-hand accounts from survivors are nothing short of awe-inspiring. I'll let this be known it's def a gut wrenched I don't care who you are. The survivors are warriors. Just a reminder that this real life stuff goes on everyday. If you see something please don't hesitate to say something.

Story of one of the many breakaway Mormon splinter groups.

I agree with other reviewers, there have been other documentaries on the FLDS, some better. And yes the "lost boys" who were excommunicated and driven out of the FLDS communities were also abused. They were competition for Warren Jeffs and the older men who wanted the young girls for their wives.

So sad

The story is incredibly insane and sad, especially knowing that this sort of thing is happening all around the world and no matter how many documentaries are made it still keeps happening. When people are born into something it's very hard to change their minds, but I'm glad there's more awareness and documentaries like this coming out.

The actual doc was good, I had tears in my eyes in the last episode. It was very interesting and quite well done, I would have liked to see more of what happens to the people who do leave. I would have loved to see the struggles of trying to fit into a normal life etc.

I also hate that it was made out like warren ruined everything, when his father was just as bad??

Well done documentary about a gut wrenching story

I love a good documentary, and this is definitely one of the better ones. The subject matter is tough to hear and leaves you wondering "how does this happen?" It is an important lesson in that we should all pay more attention to what is happening around us.

Some will watch this documentary and make a snap judgment about these mothers. They will question these women, and say out loud, "I would never let a man do this to my child!" The writers and director of this story do an excellent job in guiding the viewer through what it is truly like to be brainwashed. They do not condemn these individuals for their religious beliefs, but instead, educated us all on what it is like to be held hostage mentally. These individuals were born into these ideas and theology and had no contact with the outside world. I'm amazed that anyone ever broke free. Those who did are the true heroes of this story.
