Recently we have learned that Nathan Fillion, star of the cult television series Firefly and the film Serenity, has joined the cast of Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events for its second season. In the past Fillion has appeared in many comic book films as a voice actor. He is mostly known for voicing Hal Jordan in some of DC's animated films like Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox and Justice League: Doom. He has one live action comic book role in Guardians of the Galaxy, in the form of an unnamed Kyln prisoner that Groot take easily takes out.
He recently had a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which unfortunately got cut. In the same way we saw a Batman poster during Man of Steel, Fillion's cameo, or easter egg if you want to call it that instead,...

Sex and violence gets headlines, but it sure doesn't guarantee a good movie. Warner Bros. Animation comes up woefully short in their R-rated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's classic comic, Batman: The Killing Joke. The disturbing origin story of the Joker is muddled with soap opera level melodrama. Batgirl is conceptualized as smitten and unsophisticated. This was a poor arc to introduce in the boundary breaking narrative of her character. An opportunity was wasted to tell this grim tale with gravitas.
The Killing Joke opens with Barbara Gordon (Tara Strong) three years into her 'relationship' with Batman (Kevin Conroy). She works as a librarian by day, shunning suitors, and dishing to her gay bestie/coworker. She's infatuated with her yoga teacher, aka the Dark Knight, who likes to be in control. She's fine with that, most of the time. They haven't gone all the way yet. It's not that kind of relationship,...

Midway between the mediums of print comics – where Batman began – and modern live-action films – where Batman has reached the widest audience – are the animated films and television series centering around Bruce Wayne and the legend of the Dark Knight. Animation is the logical jumping-off point from the comics, and advances in the field have led to some of the most loved comic books of all time being brought to the screen in awesome fashion.
Batman: The Animated Series is generally agreed to be the best of the televised offerings, but the animated films are a bit harder to rank. There have been eight films, so far, that are judged here under the criteria of being a “true” Batman film – some adapt famous comic book arcs and some pit Bruce Wayne against fresh, original adversaries, and all of them attempt to create a vision of Gotham unlike any we’ve seen before.

Welcome to Issue 17 of ‘The Marvelous Da7e!’
This weekend is New York Comic Con, and I don’t think I’ll be as present on the floor as I was last year and the year before. There just aren’t a ton of movies representing themselves and as much as I want a plush Rocket Raccoon, I made a pledge to myself earlier this year to stop putting large chunks of my finances into the various collections of toys I have at home and the office.
So, unlike Nycc’s San Diego counterpart, we’re not expecting a ton of news on the superhero movie front. That means I’m not expecting anything groundbreaking out of the Con. Well, not officially. El Mayimbe usually does some worth-while partying that becomes fruitful. Little mustache-clad me will be supporting the industry by catching up on the half-dozen Marvel crossover events currently running.

For those who haven’t read the acclaimed Jla: Tower of Babel, well, go read it. The short version is: Batman has constructed contingency plans to deal with every member of the Justice League should they ever go rogue. Ra’s al Ghul subsequently steals these plans and puts them into effect, thus nullifying the League, and allowing him to enact his evil plot. Eventually they overcome their own demons and band together to stop Ra’s, but in the aftermath, Batman is kicked out of the League. You may also recognize this story as being the inspiration behind the animated film Justice League: Doom, as well as the failed Justice League: Mortal. One of the most appealing facets of this comic is that it really gives each character their own time to shine. Every one of the heroes has to face their own personal challenge and conquer their own weakness.

With Man of Steel opening in less than a month, Henry Cavill has been making the press rounds lately, and the actor recently spoke about how he would like to see a Superman/Batman crossover movie.
"I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict, because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story."
When asked if this movie is actually in the works, Henry Cavill offered this response.
"Who knows, I'm sure there's all sorts of ideas being thrown around at Warner Bros right now."

1) Injustice: Gods Among Us
Time to settle it once and for all, people. Who would win in a fight: Superman, or Batman? This has been a long-standing, ridiculous debate within pop culture (ridiculous not for content, but because Batman would obviously win), and now the folks behind Mortal Kombat want you to decide the answer with their latest fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us. All of DC comics’ biggest names (and Aquaman) throw down in a traditional 2D brawler that has more than a few tricks up its sleeve, including devastating arena transitions, and some totally insane, totally awesome finishing moves for each hero.

Superman reboot Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, finished filming earlier this year and is now in post-production for its 2D and 3D release on June 14, 2013.
But we can now add one more name to the cast list.
Battlestar Galactica actor Tahmot Penikett has joined the project and is listed on IMDb as playing Henry Ackderson.
In the animated film Justice League: Doom, the Superman villain Metallo - a kryptonite-powered cyborg - posed as the similarly-named Daily Planet reporter Henry Ackerson.
It's not clear if the casting has just been announced or if Penikett has only just been hired for an additional scene, perhaps setting up Metallo for the sequel.
The Superman: Man of Steel Facebook page says Penikett has confirmed the casting but cannot comment on who he is playing.
Penikett has also had roles in Smallville, playing a kryptonite-enhanced supersoldier called Wes Keenan and a resurrected man called Vince Davis.

We couldn’t be more excited for DC/Warner Bros. new game scheduled for release in April, 2013 featuring our favorite DC characters. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a new franchise in the fighting game genre from NetherRealm Studios, creators of the definitive fighting game Mortal Kombat — these guys can do no wrong, in my book.
Playable characters include Batman, Catwoman, Cyborg, Nightwing, Flash, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
If you haven’t seen the game in action, check out this video of match between Superman and the Flash from RajmanGamingHD below. Looks like the bomb!
The Collector’s Edition of the game will be available in limited quantities for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $99.99.

Last spring, we brought you a rumor about the last son of Krypton taking on the villainous Metallo in director Zack Snyder‘s forthcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill in the titular role.
Now, we have a new rumor about Metallo being in the film, posted by the fine folks over at Superman SuperSite. Their report states:
“According to a recent update on IMDb, it may be none other than the villian Metallo.
In the IMDb full-cast listing for “Man of Steel”, former “Battlestar Galactica” star Tahmoh Penikett was originally listed as playing a character in the Zack Synder Superman reboot by the name of Emerson. That has now been updated to show that Penikett is actually playing a character named Henry Ackerdson.
What is interesting about the Ackerdson character is that he was previously featured, if only briefly, in the 2012 Warner Home Video animated feature-film, “Justice League: Doom.

The Avengers success had to do with a few factors. One, of course, was the name, and the other had to do with the amount of hype that was built up over the course of several years. Every film that was tied into the mythos of The Avengers was part of a bigger narrative that kept audiences enthralled.
Warner Brothers is looking to do the same thing in conjunction with their Justice League project, which is set to come out further down the road in the year 2015. The company is looking to start not only films with characters such as Wonder Woman and The Flash, but video games as well as other forms of media will help give the audience license awareness.
DC is already on their way to giving Justice League characters a bigger name. The video game Lego Batman 2: DC Superheros has been the first step, along with Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham City.

In Superman Vs. The Elite, Superman’s effectiveness as a super hero comes into question when a new group of super powerful crusaders, known as “The Elite,” appear on the scene. As super heroes, the Elite know no bounds, and are more than willing to kill, even on a massive scale, to stop villainy — putting them on a collision course with the ever-ethical, yet preferably non-lethal Man of Steel.

DC Universe's latest original animated movie, "Justice League: Doom," is as close as you're going to get to watching a comic book. Batman, being the brilliant detective that he is, has created contingency plans for each member of the Justice League in case any of them either succumbs to mind control or turns evil for some reason. But when those plans fall into the wrong hands, it could spell the end for the super-powered super group and the entire world.
Loosely based on Mark Waid's "Jla: Tower of Babel," "Doom" is filled with wonderful little surprises that will excite comic book fans and non-comic book fans alike. The film itself is well-written and enjoyable throughout, with a plot that is both clear and concise. Chicago – The DC Universe brand of straight-to-dvd PG-13 films have had a remarkable array of quality. Some are absolutely brilliant, must-see films (“Justice League: The New Frontier,” “Batman: Under the Red Hood”) while others are kind of a mess (“Wonder Woman.” “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”). In other words, you never know what you’re going to get when you pop in a new entry in the hit franchise. The 13th film, “Justice League: Doom.” is not a lucky one.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
Loosely based on “Jla: Tower of Babel” by Marc Waid, a multi-episode arc that was released in 2000, “Doom” is easily the most disjointed and inconsistent DC Universe film yet. The voice talent is spectacular, featuring a number of all-time favorites when it comes to DC animation (Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rosenbaum), but that’s where the praise ends. The story doesn’t resonate and the visuals are mediocre.

Tim Daly has voiced Superman on numerous occassions and Nathan Fillion has voiced Hal Jordan in two animated direct-to-video movies. However, the two actors start having trouble separating reality from fiction in the latest episode of Daly's webseries. That's Daly's real life son in the video, plus Michael Rosenbaum makes a cameo at the end. All jokes aside somebody inform Warner Bros. that they missed the boat on Fillion as Hal. [There's always Alan Scott] You can catch both Daly and Fillion voicing their respective characters in Justice League: Doom which was just released in stores today. Moviefone's Pick of the Week "Hugo" What's It About? Martin Scorsese tries his hand at family films with this adaptation of the award-winning children's book. Hugo Cabret is an orphaned boy who lives out of a train station in 1930s Paris; by day he works as the station's clocksmith, by night he tries to solve the mystery that connects his departed father to a broken toy robot. Soon he is swept up in an adventure involving a mean old shopkeeper (Ben Kingsley) and lost pieces of film history. See It Because: It's a gorgeous, heart-warming, one-of-a-kind movie. Every detail -- from the snow-covered skyline of Paris to the recreation of landmark moments in silent film -- pop with excitement and beauty. We struggle to find the words that can describe this movie appropriately; Scorsese's technical craftsmanship and passion for film history are a surprising perfect fit for this sweet, whimsical...

Michael Rosenbaum makes his triumphant return as the beloved voice of The Flash in Justice League: Doom, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies. The film will be available everywhere on Tuesday.
Rosenbaum brought his own playful, gregarious, sometimes sarcastic personality to Flash for the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated television series, setting the standard as the voice behind the “fastest man alive.” Rosenbaum is one of eight actors returning to their original animated voice from the Justice League series.
Fanboy crowds also hold Rosenbaum in high esteem for his impressive performance as Lex Luthor for seven seasons of Smallville. He’ll soon be seen opposite Bradley Cooper and Kristen Bell in ‘Outrun,” and he’s currently in production on “Old Days,” a triple threat for Rosenbaum as he is writer, director and star of the film

It's kind of a slow week for DVD and Blu-ray releases in the wake of the Oscars, with only one Oscar nominee taking advantage of the extra promotional boost: Martin Scorsese's Hugo. If you missed it in theatres, now is the time to catch up... especially if you happen to own a 3D TV. The only other major release is the absolute anti-thesis of an Academy Award-worthy film, Johnny English Reborn. Fortunately, there are a few interesting foreign and indie releases in stores today including the Mexican thriller Miss Bala, Chilean action flick Mandrill, I Melt with You starring Rob Lowe and Thomas Jane, and The Catechism Cataclysm starring Eastbound & Down's Steve Little. There is also a new animated Warner Brothers direct-to-dvd feature Justice League: Doom and for the first time ever(?) on DVD, Cecil B. DeMille's The Buccaneer. Will you be buying or renting anything this week?...
