Anamaria Vartolomei said she wanted to honor Maria Schneider's spark with the role and not just dwell in darkness. "Maria was a very positive figure. She was fire, mischief, freedom, an electrifying presence. I have great admiration for her and her career, because she managed to draw on the strength she needed to make herself heard. She wanted to lift the veil and break the silence on taboo questions of violence and sexism within the industry. She wanted to protect future generations, and that unfortunately resonates with current events."
Reported as in post-production in January 2024 with plans to premiere at festivals later in the year

Matt Dillon plays Marlon Brando, and both Dillon and Brando had worked for director Francis Ford Coppola in two films that helped shape or reshape their careers: for Brando it was El padrino (1972) (his comeback) and Apocalipsis (1979) (a kind of comeback's comeback); for Dillon it was Los rebeldes (1983) and La ley de la calle (1983). In The Outsiders, Dillon's death scene has Brando qualities.
It hadn't been announced as of January 2024 whether the film would re-enact the infamous butter rape scene from Último tango en París (1972) that Maria Schneider said humiliated her and brought her to tears.
