This is an outstanding Chinese science-fantasy series with Lara Croft/Tomb Raider vibes. Ni Ni, one of my favourite actresses, is sublime as always, and the rest of the cast keeps up with her. Yes it's long compared to Western series, but the suspense doesn't let up. I've sadly noticed a trend that foreign language movies often get rated lower on here. I understand that not everyone enjoys watching with subtitles but I highly recommend giving this one a try and appreciating the cadence of a foreign language along with the stunning visuals, superb acting and suspense. Definitely one of my favourite science fiction series of all time.

I am absolutely obsessed about everything about this series. It is such a different and unique concept , I have never watched a Chinese drama ( or any Asian drama) like this before and I loved it so much.
The series has adventure, action, fantasy, fantastic beasts and parallel universes... adding romance a badass female lead and loads of electrifying chemistry between the main couple and there you have it, you won't be able to move your eyes from the screen until you finish every single episode.
Our female lead is just the star of the series. They really put a lot of work into writing character of Ye Lui Xi.
She is so strong and fierce and independent but at the same time so lost, vulnerable and longing for love and a place in the world.
And they truly chose the right actress for the role, I mean Ni Ni does a remarkable job playing her. She manages to transmit every single emotion of this complex character.
Bai Yu's (ML) chemistry with Ni Ni is extremely good. Their interactions are just very natural and it looks like they are actually a real couple, laughing together, kissing and hugging each other while they are on a trip on holiday. Watching them flirt on screen, seeing how they look at each other and how they smile at each other.....will automatically make your heart happy, amazing script too.
Most of secondary characters were well written and enjoyable ( special mention to the roosters OBVIOUSLY), with very hateful villains as well.
There was a very frustrating character to mention though. The second male lead.
It was The most heartbreaking character I have ever seen written, he is terribly underused in the drama and his story with the female lead had such huge potential, it is actually criminal . They give him the most painful and heartbreaking backstory and fate and didn't even give him a chance to shine or have any resolution or do anything at all but to be a puppet and suffer. I don't think I felt such pain and frustration for a character in a long time...
I actually feel like they could have used the backstory of the origin of the Scorpion Eye an the clan a lot more. Specially at the end. The last episodes felt a bit flat and uneventful.
I honestly struggled giving the rating to this show because I really enjoyed it and honestly it had the potential to be the perfect show for the majority of the show. But the last few episodes were a bit weaker specially the ending and it didn't close as nicely as you would have expected for a lot of characters and left some plots with a few holes.
Overall it is still amazing and you will really enjoy it, so don't hesitate it and watch it now!
