The Dead Inside

The dead might be inside, but the boredom sure is out...

"The Dead Inside" boasts 'post-Romero packed with punch' on the DVD front cover. You have to look really long and hard for anything even remotely close to what Romero have accomplished with any of his movies. And paying £10.08 for this movie on Amazon is a rip off, because this movie is downright and blatantly bad.

Everything in this movie just screams low budget and inferior production. The camera-work was questionable and most of the time downright annoying. I don't pay money to see a movie that is shot by a camera operator with Parkinsons disease. The camera-work in "The Dead Inside" was all over the place.

The dialogue was mundane, and delivered without any punch or conviction, which just added fuel to the fire that was characters that had no appeal, no charisma, no dimension and characters that you didn't care about or relate to in any way.

As much as I enjoy zombie movies, then the running zombie aspect of the zombie mythology is just wasted on me. Personally, I am more to the staggering, slow zombies that walk with a gait. And zombies should at the very least look like they are deceased individuals, not just people painted with some grey make-up and splashed with fake blood.

"The Dead Inside" had nothing interesting to offer, nor did it prove interesting in any single way. And as much of a zombie aficionado as I am, then this movie was just a swing and a miss.

Don't get suckered and fooled by the somewhat interesting and appealing DVD cover, because it has nothing to do with the actual movie itself. And the zombies in the movie doesn't even look like on the DVD cover at all. The zombies in the movie were just regular people milling about with bad make-up.

Stay well clear of "The Dead Inside", because there is very little to be had here...

Very good zombie film!

I don't usually write reviews but I thought this film was a bit under-appreciated. I came across this film on Amazon prime after some late night flicking through the movies and thought I'd give it a go. If it had of been American I probably would not have thought it was so good as I think English people would enjoy this sort of film more being that it is set in a very English school and village which people from other countries may not think is very flashy but it is quiet real... Until the zombies obviously! The settings, such as in the homes and in the school are what English schools and homes actually look like, which I think makes the film feel more relate-able therefore more scary. The actors are all pretty good as well seeing as how (after a cheeky bit of googling) none of them have really been in much else - yet. So yeah good film well worth a watch.

Unwatchable

Honestly I feel a bit bad leaving a one-star review because this is somebody's creative work of art and I don't want to demean it but at the same time this movie was flat out terrible. I'll note that I'm American here so maybe this is just an issue for me but almost all of the time I can't even understand what the actors are saying due to SUPER thick accents, a lack of subtitles, and poor sound mixing as well as the lack of annunciation from the cast. I suppose the movie could boast some production value in the fact that they had plenty of extras to portray zombie hoards which is no small task for an indie film but the production value is squandered in a dull story and characters with no personalities. The camera work here is shotty and obviously filmed on camcorders from Best Buy without any thought given into the lighting or the camera angles. It looks like somebody just picked up a camera and began shooting whatever was in front of them and zooming in and out without any real purpose or Direction. I think that perhaps there was something they could have done here to make an okay movie but due to a lack of planning or something or Rush production Maybe it ended up just being a waste of 2 hours.

Not dissing this on the budget

They just kept doing dumb shiat and asking stupid questions. This is the perfect movie if you like cursing at the TV. Not one of these people are likeable so you really can't root for any of them except maybe the leader military guy. You can make a good movie on a low budget, but it has to have people that act like a normal person would.

Pleasantly Surprised

Although this film didn't have a big budget like other zombie films, it really held its own. I was expecting it to be terrible acting but the acting wasn't that bad either. I think this film is fairly realistic when it comes to the mistakes and choices they made which was nice.

Low Budget Zombies

This is a nice little, low budget, zombie film, that's been shot in the UK. For a low budget, the production values aren't too bad. The effects for the zombies, etc., look okay, as do the props and uniforms. The only things which do let it down, are the acting from some of the characters (who can be a bit wooden), and the script in places. Because of that, I'll need to give this 6/10. Hopefully the writers Andrew Gilbert, and Julian Hundy, will improve as they go along.

I was very entertained by this great, gritty infected/zombie movie

A previous reviewer mentioned about the quality of the movie, how mundane it was with dialogue was delivered with no conviction like he expected this to be a huge blockbuster Hollywood movie. Then went on to say that running zombies aspect is wasted on him, well it certainly was. Long gone are the slow creeping along zombie with arms out stretched saying "brains", those zombies were fine in their day but the new style of fast runners like in the 28 Days/Weeks movies are certainly welcome in my mind. When someone is freshly infected why not be as active as they were when they was not infected, it all depends on the damage they received surely? As for being boring this move was far from boring with plenty of action, fast infected people, shooting, blood, decent effects, acting is OK (one or 2 people were not that good) with most of the actors not been in much else they were better than expected. The story kept moving along with characters developing, new characters being introduced, events going on inside their temporary residence as well as outside. You can't compare this with Night of the Living Dead, it reminds me more of the 28 Days/Weeks series but with probably a 10th of the budget but was far from being 1 10th entertaining, in fact this could have been a spin off from that series.

You can see the list of zombie movies I have seen and I can tell you there is a lot of movies with higher budget than this and have been complete trash, this is one of the best I have seen for a while. I think a lot of people won't get it, because its more gritty and realistic (As far as infected stories go) and not the Hollywood perfect crisp witty dialogue, with S L Jackson strutting around being a mo-fo popping caps in people butts or Mr Willis trying to be funny every other line and being the big hero. Its not that type of movie.

Someone said the Zombies should look deceased, i guess where they live as soon as someone dies they are immediately grey with bits dropping off lol. Being supposedly set in London there are plenty of people to keep a fresh supply of infected around. Not quite sure why there is so much hatred towards this movie in the message boards either, I know someone involved with the movie commented how good it was which was to be expected and everyone seemed to pounce on them and unfairly totally slag the movie off like it was the worst movie ever made. Just check out Killing Spree or Bloodlust Zombies if you want to see a truly dreadful Zombie movies.

This was close to 2 hours but felt half that length and kept me fully entertained and inspired me to write this to put my point of view across as I felt the other comments seemed more like comments from another movie. The one thing I was little disappointed with was the end but then again I guess it leave it open for a sequel...I hope :) By the way, I have nothing to do with this movie, I was not involved in making it, I am just a lover of Zombie movies and this one is one of the best in its genre. The DVD is very welcome on the shelf next to the 28 Days/Weeks, World War Z, Night/Dawn/Day/Return/Land/Survival/Diary ETC, ETC of the Living Dead, The Battery, Dead Snow, Outpost series, (REC)/Quarantine series, Dead Air, The Dead and many more including the Walking Dead TV series.

It may not be the very best but its certainly way, way above the worst and definitely worth checking out.

A solid zombie film

This is not a masterpiece, but definately above the meridian. I was indeed positively surprised.

The script and directing work. For once, the heroes are no rambo's (i am so sick of heroes who can always perform and constantly rise to the challenge) - characters are rather realistic. Apathy, uncertainty and frustration are well depicted. Too many times they forget these.

Rather realistic action, good pacing, solid editing. Characters realistic, and the acting perfomances are ok. Acting perfomances are ok.

The movie promises little, but delivers all. Worth the watch, if u are a friend of zombie fiction.

Decent Zombie Flick

The rating for this movie shouldn't be so low. I've given it a slightly above average rating because it kept my interest. All the sexy lads were a huge bonus. I gave it an extra star because I'd never seen a stud urinate on a group of zombies. It was worth my time.

I'm very surprised this movie has such a low rating, it's good.

I've watched this video twice now and it is almost as good as Night of the Living Dead. I might even rate it the same, but I've watched a lot of zombie movies and I'm jaded and critical.

The actors were good. There was tension and a few jump in your seat moments. The requisite gore was there. It built empathy for the characters. The dialog was realistic and didn't have me sitting there saying what's wrong with these people like a lot of zombie movies do. It's better than the remake of Dawn of the Dead, so if you like that, you'd like this.

I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a good zombie flick.

A good low-budget zombie movie

"The Dead Inside" has a lot of Romero's influence, but without old man's criticism of the modern society. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? It's up to you to decide. It's just a simple story of simple people surviving the apocalypse, making hard decisions which are not always good ones. There is not so much drama in it, but it's interesting to watch.

This movie isn't a masterpiece, but it obviously doesn't deserve a rating below 4.

Bittersweet Zombie Movie - Realism

Think of the movie as a combination of The Sims and Project Zomboid, you see how survivors behave with each other as well as how they react to the zombie outbreak in their lives.

It is hard to keep track of the main character though, but that is what makes the movie very good. You think it is that person, but something happens that changes the dynamic of the movie. You can not keep one focus on one character, the focus is the whole group of survivors.

I guess that is why I wanted to hate the movie more, it kept killing off characters you start to grow an attachment with, but that is what makes the movie great, it becomes too real giving you the sense of dread to what little hope the survivors have against a horde of zombies. Will they survive? Or will they die?

The movie takes place in London where zombies start appearing around different parts of the city, yet for the young crowd they do not pay attention to varying news sources that will later be their downfall of blissful ignorance into a raw dish on the floor. The infection spreads despite the government implementing methods to try and slow down the infection, but for the sake of the story, the zombies manage to ravage the country of London.

That leaves only a few survivors to go to a safe haven that will later experience setbacks there with what little civilians remain, the military, as well as strangers.

Overall, the movie kept it realistic, you don't what will happen next and you hope that all of them can survive. Humanity is not perfect, and they will learn that the hard way.
