The Brutal Thriller That Brought Barbara Crampton Back to Horror is Your Next Prime Video Watch
Image
Where were you when you first saw You’re Next (2011)? I’m being nosy because I personally can’t remember. What I do remember was that I saw it way before my prefrontal cortex was fully developed, and it was my introduction to Barbara Crampton.

I’m sure some of you are clutching your Re-Animator Blu-rays right now—“This girl discovered Barbara in the 2010s?!”—but what was I supposed to do back then? I was in college in the middle of nowhere, Blockbuster was all but extinct, and streaming wasn’t what it is now. Oh, someone is probably ready to comment that I should have illegally downloaded her movies. Clearly, you didn’t take the “you wouldn’t steal a car” anti-piracy PSA as seriously as I did. Yes, I was a goodie-goodie; let’s move on.

Directed by Adam Wingard, You’re Next tells the story of the Davisons,...

'V/H/S/Halloween' Drops Scary Good First Trailer
Image
The V/H/S found-footage horror franchise, a fairly reliable favorite among genre fans since its debut in 2012, has unveiled the trailer for its latest film, V/H/S/Halloween. For those unfamiliar, the overarching concept of the franchise acts as a collection of V/H/S tapes being watched by you, the viewer; naturally, each installment showcases horrific and scary stories. The anthology-style films are made in collaboration with various horror filmmakers, with directors like Adam Wingard (You're Next), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), and Ti West (X) among the many who've contributed entries.

As the name implies, V/H/S/Halloween's six found-footage stories center around the night of October 31, with spooky season-themed segments directed by Bryan M. Ferguson,...

Babysitters and masked killers at Halloween go together like cyanide and chocolate and peanut butter, and indie maestro Brandon Christensen whips up a new batch of Horror with those classic slasher ingredients in his 1980s throwback Night of The Reaper. Hitting Shudder September 15, this clever whodunit brings the specter of death to the babysitter’s club while mixing in a mysterious cat-and-mouse game between the cops and the killer. A smalltown bloodbath with a wicked soundtrack, Night of The Reaper combines Christensen’s slick camera work and his expertly crafted scare sequences for a real crowd-pleasing murderfest

You’re Next (2011) Movie Ending Explained & Themes Analyzed: Who are the Assassins?
Image
Premiering at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section, “You’re Next” (2011) is a comedy in the most straightforward and functional sense of the word. Adam Wingard’s thriller draws its pulse from Simon Barrett’s razor-sharp script, borrowing the unnerving rhythm of the home invasion films while threading it through concerns about capitalism and the moral rot of class conflict. More than a decade later, the visual storytelling still feels surprisingly assured: the violence lands with a cathartic, darkly comic edge where household appliances double up as both positive and negative weapons. The killers may hide behind animal masks, but the real monsters pulling the strings never need one.

New ‘Good Boy’ Image Sees Heroic Dog Indy Fight Evil to Save His Owner [Exclusive]
Image
Man’s best friend will soon go above and beyond his pay grade when Ben Leonberg’s dog-centered horror flick, Good Boy, arrives in cinemas on October 3. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’re excited to show off an image of the best boy out there — a pup named Indy who will do everything in his power to ensure that his human owner and best friend, Todd, doesn’t fall victim to the evil forces plaguing the pair’s new home. Distributed by Independent Film Company and Shudder, the feature will undoubtedly lead to a slew of pet adoptions after viewers realize that the only thing standing between humanity and the gates of hell is the loving, loyal eyes of a furball.

In our exclusive sneak peek, Indy the dog looks down the stairs into the basement of his new home, where — presumably — he is locking eyes...

Can You Survive The ‘Traumatika’ Trailer?
Image
“This is not a movie you see. This is a movie you survive! You have been warned!“

So claims the tagline for Traumatika, the sophomore feature from director Pierre Tsigaridis (Two Witches). Based on the trailer below, released today by Saban Films, I’m inclined to believe it.

Written by Tsigaridis and Maxime Rancon, Traumatika follows “A young boy (whose) night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he’s about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and claim countless lives across generations.”

Check out the trailer below:

Dear reader, I have chills from watching this trailer. I’m about as seasoned a horror fan as it gets, and I have to admit, this film appears truly nightmarish. Especially considering the fact that it all seems to be from the point of view of a small child experiencing the...

The trailer for Traumatika warns that it’s not a movie you see — it’s a movie you survive.

The supernatural horror film possesses theaters on September 12 from Saban Films.

A young boy’s night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he’s about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and claim countless lives across generations.

'Traumatika' Is a Horror Movie So Intense Fans Can't Even See a Trailer
Image
When it comes to horror movies, there are a lot of films that promise to be so scary that after viewing them you'll never be the same again. 99.9% of the time, that's all just marketing propaganda meant to entice viewers into the theater. There hasn't been a truly terrifying horror movie in a long time, but all that could change thanks to Traumatika, a hidden gem that's set to premiere in September that's already getting rave reviews.

Like a million other horror movies before it, Traumatika touts itself as one of the scariest movies ever made. It doesn't just stop there, however, as the new teaser for the film (seen below) boasts that the movie is so intense that fans can't even handle a whole trailer. Instead, we're treated to several review quotes that label the movie as "a nonstop onslaught of terror," "violent, angry, and unafraid," and a film that "claws at your throat.

Anime Film from One of the Most Popular Series on Earth is Losing Its American Streaming Home Very Soon
Image
Months before the widely cherished shōnen anime, My Hero Academia, returns for its final run this fall, its similarly successful movie, Two Heroes, has just received a distressing update. Directed by Kenji Nagasaki from a script written by Yōsuke Kuroda, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes was released in 2018 to critical acclaim and has since been added to several streaming homes in the U.S., where it has also found success. Unfortunately, one of these streamers will be removing the anime film from its catalog next month, giving fans only a few weeks to catch up.

Per Cbr, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes won’t be available on Hulustarting from August 21, just a month away. However, the original anime episodes will still be available to stream on the platform. Hulu currently has all seven seasons of My Hero Academia available in its library, offering both English subtitles and dub formats. In the meantime,...

My Hero Academia's Only Anime With 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score Loses Streaming Home
Image
My Hero Academia fans don't have much time left to watch one of the franchise's best movies, as one of the biggest streamers in the U.S. loses My Hero Academia: Two Heroes next month.

Hulu has revealed that the Two Heroes movie will be removed from the streaming platform as of Aug. 21. It's the only entry in the franchise with a perfect 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its high-energy story and mix of action and comedy, all while beautifully showcasing some of All Might's early days as a hero. My Hero Academia: Two Heroes sees Deku and his friends visiting I-Expo, the world's premiere hero exhibition, when villains hack the security system and launch a devious plan into motion.

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes Leaves Hulu Next Month

While My Hero Academia: Two Heroes will be leaving Hulu on Aug. 21, it appears that the anime's episodes will...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Review: The Hook Brings You Back
Image
The art of art criticism — and yes, it is an art form, thank you for asking — demands that each critic understands themself, intimately and analytically, so that they also understand their own taste, and can explain their taste to others. It’s not enough to have an opinion. We must be confident that our opinion is an honest reflection of who we are and what we really care about, and be able to justify how we came to our conclusions about the art we critique … and ourselves.

It is with that in mind that I state, confidently, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” defies conventional ideas of what a “good” movie is. If it is a “good” movie it’s an incredibly daft one, with storytelling and characters that don’t pass the rudimentary smell test, no matter how witty and self-aware the rest of it is.

‘May’ Blu-ray Review – Lucky McKee’s 2002 Movie Stands the Test of Time as a True Cult Classic
Image
Over the course of its 93 minutes, May intrepidly traverses between disturbing psychological horror, amusing satire, and profoundly sad character study — often simultaneously. Lucky McKee‘s sincere script and direction are anchored by a raw, career-making performance from Angela Bettis.

Bettis stars as the titular character, a mousy, socially inept veterinary assistant desperate to fit in. She quickly falls for the only man to ever notice her, Adam. The handsome cinephile is endeared by her eccentricities at first, but her growing obsession sours their relationship before it has a chance to blossom.

It’s not until the final act of the movie that May decides to take it upon herself to create the perfect companion using her favorite parts of other people. At that point, no one in May’s orbit — from seductive coworker Polly to kinky street punk Blank — is safe from her wrath.

The film wears its Frankenstein inspiration on its sleeve — literally,...

Before 'X,' Ti West Made an Underrated Horror Gem That You Can Soon Get on 4K Blu-Ray
Image
When it comes to influential modern horror filmmakers, Ti West is usually towards the top of genre fans’ favorite directors list. That's because of his recent X trilogy that was composed of the Mia Goth-starring X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. However, West has been a creative visionary for over the last two decades. With that, one of his lesser-known cult classics is finally coming to 4K.

The Innkeepers is coming to the premium format in a stunningly haunted 4K box set from Second Sight Films. This 2011 ghost story features brand-new artwork by Nick Charge of star Sara Paxton (Return to Halloweentown) investigating a spooky hotel. However, there's a ghost ready to make her night a living hell. The blue color tones that match the film’s original marketing palette also make this cover pop with eerie delight. This edition comes with a new 4K transfer approved by West alongside a handful of new special features.

‘Frankenfish’ – Monster Movie from Writer of ‘You’re Next’ Is One of the Best Sci-Fi Originals
Image
Back in college, my Saturday nights were a little less boring after one generous internet installer hooked me up with “complimentary” cable. Mind you, I didn’t ask for this surprise add-on, but I also didn’t let it go to waste. Anyhow, I soon became very acquainted with those Original Movies found on Syfy (née the Sci-Fi Channel or simply Sci Fi).

It was as if the powers that be had come together and made an evening of entertainment that catered to my horror tastes — carnage, schlock, and most of all, monsters. And every so often, that block of niche, unapologetic programming offered an Original that wasn’t quite like the others. Yes, the most dangerous night on television occasionally delivered an enjoyable B-movie like Frankenfish. Even to this day I rewatch it with sincere fondness and pleasure, as opposed to the sense of irony required for other Syfy flicks.

Image
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning North America Box Office Day 25 Update (Photo Credit – YouTube)

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is still one of the trending movies at the box office in North America. The action thriller is chasing the domestic haul of its predecessor, Dead Reckoning Part One, and it crossed the $500 million milestone this weekend. However, given the momentum, Mi 8 is not expected to collect $800 million or more worldwide. Keep scrolling for more.

The movie will face more competition in the upcoming days as two new horror films will be released this month—28 Years Later and M3GAN 2.0. In July, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will also be released on screens. It lost IMAX screens this past week and was earning really well from there. Tom Cruise, like always, earned praise for his exhilarating stunts in the movie.

Swimming With Sharks: Revisiting ‘Bait 3D’ 13 Years Later
Image
Just when 2012’s Bait (a.k.a. Bait 3D) was swimming the way of other killer shark movies made in Jaws’ wake, its story eventually changed direction. Director Kimble Rendall didn’t follow that set pattern of bringing humans to the water. Quite the opposite; Bait brought the water, along with man-eating great whites, to them. And the end result is one example of “sharksploitation” that’s only become more unique as time goes by.

If not for Teen Wolf, Bait would have been helmed by another Aussie who knew his way around deadly creatures. Scheduling issues, however, led to Russell Mulcahy handing the project over to Kimble Rendall. Even so, Mulcahy’s idea remained intact, albeit now revised by a whole team of writers. Whatever was changed in the process of switching out directors, though, didn’t include altering the movie’s setting of a supermarket. The thrill of...

Meet the Killer Cast of Netflix’s ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ [May Cover Story]
Image
Prom night is supposed to be unforgettable … right? Your high school gymnasium is all decked out with colorful streamers and sparkling lights. Mirror balls, paper crowns, nervous smiles… all for a perfect night when the promise of a bright tomorrow lingers above slow dancers like machine-made fog.

But for the characters in Netflix’s latest horror event, prom is certainly a night that’ll never be forgotten … but for all the wrong reasons. In Fear Street: Prom Queen, the new viciously fun slasher installment of R.L. Stine’s beloved universe, the evening ends in carnage, and a high school gym is decorated with viscera instead of balloons.

I guess the old adage is true: evil does love to party.

Shudder Acquires ‘Good Boy,’ Haunted House Movie Told from Dog’s Perspective
Good Boy (2025)
Shudder has acquired the rights to Good Boy — a haunted house movie told from the point of view of a family dog — in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, Deadline reports.

Ben Leonberg makes his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Alex Cannon.

Leonberg’s dog, Indy, stars alongside Shane Jensen, Larry Fessenden (You’re Next), Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin (The Silence of the Lambs).

Indy finds himself on a new adventure with his human owner — and best friend — Todd, leaving city life for a long-vacant family home in the country. From the start, two things are abundantly clear: Indy is wary of the creepy old house, and his affection for Todd is unwavering.

Indy’s new world is immediately filled with unease: he senses invisible presences, follows phantom tracks, receives chilling warnings from a ghostly dog, and is haunted...

‘The Two Popes’ Pops on Netflix Following Francis’ Death
Image
Pope Francis died on April 21, one day before Conclave came to Amazon Prime Video (and a few weeks after it left Peacock). But there was another pope-themed film available for streaming subscribers — and it took off on Netflix.

The Two Popes, a 2019 Oscar-winning film about the relationship between Francis (Jonathan Pryce) and his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI (Anthony Hopkins), returned to Netflix’s top 10. Its viewership increased by more than 30x the prior week, Netflix said, when Pope Francis was ailing but still alive.

From April 21-27, The Two Popes reached the Netflix top 10 in 27 countries, racking up 3.2 million global views.

That view tally was good enough for eighth place last week among all English-language movies on Netflix. Tom Hardy’s Havoc topped the list with 29.8 million views in just its first three days of availability, nearly tripling TV’s top performer, the premiere of You season five (10.1 million views...

Mikey’s night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he’s about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and claim countless lives across generations.

Genre-Blending Horror Film ‘Traumatika’ to See North American Theatrical Release from Saban Films

“Traumatika,’ an experimental and visually bold new horror film, has sold to Saban Films for North American distribution.

The project hails from co-writer and director Pierre Tsigaridis (“Two Witches”) and co-writer and producer Maxime Rancon. Saban is plotting a theatrical release for 2025. Rancon also serves as executive producer.

“Traumatika” played Australia’s FrightFest and others on the indie horror circuit, earning positive early reviews for genre-blending and featuring multiple points-of-view in a terrorizing tapestry of scenes. ‘It Ends’ Filmmaker Discusses Genre-Bending “Horror Hangout” Debut [SXSW Interview]
It Ends (2025)
One of the standouts at this year’s SXSW film festival, at least so far, is writer/director/editor Alexander Ullom‘s feature debut It Ends, an audacious, genre-bending road trip nightmare with a lot on its mind.

It’s the type of innovative independent cinema that delivers on its thrilling premise while doubling as a deeply personal story. Perhaps it’s fitting that the road to getting It Ends made proved to be just as wild a ride for Ullom; the filmmaker’s website explains that his first feature fell into place thanks to a viral YouTube sketch, a VR poker game, and a comment on a meme.

Sounds like the makings of a wild story in itself, right?

“There’s definitely a crazy story there, the insane genesis of this movie,” Ullom tells Bloody Disgusting ahead of his film’s world premiere.

“At least the original version before our producers came on.

Fans of Marvel and DC need to watch this superhero Anime
Image
Superheroes dominate North American comics. There are popular comic series that aren't about superheroes — for example, AMC's hugely popular Walking Dead show is an adaptation of the comic series that ran from 2003 to 2019 and Conan the Barbarian has been a consistent presence in comics for the past 50 years — but they tend to be a bit of a niche compared to hugely popular superhero series like Superman, Batman and Spider-Man.

In general, the opposite is true in Japan. The three most popular manga series: One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach are about pirates, ninjas, and supernatural samurai, respectively. There are several superhero manga and anime series that have become popular, such as One-Punch Man, Shy, and Tiger & Bunny. On the whole, superheroes in the style of Marvel and DC comics aren't a common premise for manga and anime, though they're not completely unknown, either.

This brings us to this week's...

'You're Next' Creators Detail the Sequel They're Glad Never Got Made
Image
Before Adam Wingard joined Legendary's Monsterverse to helm Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, he directed what is arguably one of the greatest slasher films of the 2010s: You're Next. Written by Simon Barrett, the film focuses on an estranged family who find themselves under attack by a group of masked assailants during a family reunion. It's a familiar premise, but one Wingard and Barrett handled with a deft hand that's filled with black humor and gory kills. Now, the pair are discussing the sequel they had planned, which they're glad they never made.

The chat between the two comes during a new commentary track on You're Next, which was released yesterday on SteelBook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray exclusively from Lionsgate Limited (via Bloody Disgusting). The film saw its killers decked out in a lamb, a fox, and a tiger mask, and while Lamb Mask (L.

You’re Next: Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett tease the sequel they’re glad they never made
Image
You’re Next put a delightfully bloody spin on the home invasion genre, earning the film a passionate cult following that has only grown since its release in 2011. Although the ending of You’re Next did leave the door open for a sequel, a follow-up never materialized. However, that doesn’t mean that director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett didn’t consider it.

In a new commentary track (via Bloody Disgusting) on the film’s new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release, Wingard and Barrett detailed the sequel and explained why they’re glad they never made it.

“Originally, [the Lamb Mask killer] got decapitated in the script with his hand pinned to his head,” Barrett said. “But then we were like, ‘Ah, perfect opportunity, because this film’s gonna be a huge theatrical success, everyone’s telling us, so for You’re Next 2 we’ll just bring [L.C. Holt] back as the Lamb Mask killer.

Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett Detail the ‘You’re Next’ Sequel They’re Glad They Didn’t Make

You’re Next is out today on SteelBook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray exclusively from Lionsgate Limited, and director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett discuss the unmade sequel to the 2011 home invasion slasher in a new commentary track.

Holt] back as the Lamb Mask killer.’

“But because his frontal cortex is damaged by getting stabbed in the forehead, he won’t be able to feel pain anymore. He’ll be kind of crazier now, and he wants revenge for his brother.”

He continues, “Our sequel idea, which I’m glad we didn’t do, was the notion that Erin would be arrested.

Amazon Quietly Adds Anime Box Office Hit to Digital Catalog Months Ahead of Crunchyroll Release
Image
My Hero Academia fans who have been longing to see the franchise's latest film are in luck. Months ahead of its international home video release, My Hero Academia: You're Next is now available to rent or purchase digitally on Amazon.

Recently, Amazon's Prime Video service updated its anime catalog, making My Hero Academia: You're Next available to view in Japanese with English subtitles as well as in English dubbed. The new release was accompanied by little on-site advertising, which is intriguing given the rampant popularity of the MyHero Academia series. Initially released in August 2024, You're Next performed remarkably at the Japanese box office, earning over 3.5 billion yen (equivalent to about $25 million at the time) over the course of three months. This broke the previous box office record set by Mha's previous theatrical installment, My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission (2021).
