I was eagerly looking forward to the 5th installment of this series and I am sorry to say that I have been really let down! Apart from the once in a while visuals, the movie has not been able to get even close to expectations. The first 10 minutes of the movie and you will start feeling disconnected from the movie already not caring at all what is gonna happen in the next scene. After resident evil 3 & 4, I was expecting a lot out of this installment and from Paul W.S. Anderson but he has not been able to live up the mark at all. The action scenes rather than being nail-biting, turned out to be hilarious and funny. There isn't a single moment in the movie where you are actually glued to screen. Milla Jovovich looks pretty as always, but that won't save the movie. All others have done a horrible job with their acting, especially Sienna Guillory. I would say that the only reason you would want to watch this movie is if you are a fan of the resident evil series and you don't mind wasting your money and time for the sake of this series.
Alice (Milla Jovovich) awakes at home with her daughter Becky (Aryana Engineer) and her husband. But soon she realizes that she is actually in an Umbrella Corporation's underground facility. Out of the blue, the computer security system shuts-down and Alice flees to the central control room of the facility. She meets Ada Wong (Bingbing Li), who works with Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts), and she learns that a five-man team has been sent by Wesker to rescue them. However, the Red Queen sends Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) to hunt them down.
"Resident Evil 5 – Retribution" is so far the weakest movie of this franchise. Actually it is a video-game with a short story and lots of explosions and shootings. "Resident Evil 5 – Retribution" works better on Blu-Ray or DVD, since it might be unbearable for those who have gone to the movie theater to see this flick. The writer needs new ideas and not reboot the story. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "Resident Evil – Retribuição" ("Resident Evil – Retribution")
Note: On 02 February 2017, I saw this film again.

Well
this movie is like a game. Watching this movie is like watching a kid playing one level of video game. But you're watching this during 1.5 hours.
During first 15 minutes of the movie I had only one thought in my mind: "what a hell is this?"
There is no plot, no catchy story like in previous parts. Here you have several blocks and a lot of stupid shooting and fighting without a hint to be a bit realistic. The final fight is like a raping of your mind - too much FX's, too less reality and common sense, it's against everything good in the world.
Actors are great. After a deadly injury a character doesn't show any sight of the pain except in his words.
Dialogs in the movie are fantastic If you'll write down all the lines of all characters, you'll hardly fill 1.5 pages A4 size.
Watching this movie a felt like I'm fooled - creators didn't want to work to make it interesting, they used CGI+FX+fighting+shooting without everything else that makes movie worthwhile, and sold it to me using a bright wrap.
People were leaving the movie theatre in the middle of this picture.
Hope next movie will be much better.

The wastelands of Russia is where they all go, deep down underneath it's best to move with the flow, in simulated worlds where everything's pretend, excepting of course the finality of end. It's amazing the visions computers can screen, especially controlled by the psychotic Red Queen, with cascades of clones conveyed at her will, banks of fresh meat ready to rupture and spill. How long can this perpetual carnage continue, the raking of flesh from the bone and the sinew, mutations of mutations morph change with variations, to create eternal versions of the worst abominations.
Let me put this simply as I can, this is a mindless action movie.
I think Paul W.S. Anderson the director and writer was starting to
run out of ideas and it shows, but I personally liked it because
we had some of the same characters we already knew and I think
it sort of works manly for the action.
The action scenes were great, the film makes no sense at all mind you, but mostly works because it's action scenes. Put simply, it's inconsistent in story for whatever reasons, I think some people that are fans of these films said there was more story from what I remember, but it was scrapped because "Sony" the studio I guess didn't like it, and they wanted it as a mindless action movie? I think?
Anyway, Milla is good as always for this series and I like her sexy costume that fits well on her sexy shape and makes her look like an S&M dominatrix which is awesome. Also it's just fun seeing her kick zombie ass in slow motion, from what I remember she is in some kind of facility of Umbrella's and she has to get out for whatever reasons, that's basically the plot.
Most may not like it but I did, for me, I'm an action fan and a fan of this series, it really hit the spot, this one delivers action unlike the others.
I give it a 6/10. Not great in story but satisfying in action. If your a fan of these films give it a look. It's the last decent one.

¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaBingbing Li's entire dialogue was dubbed by Sally Cahill who voiced Ada Wong in the video games (Biohazard 2 (1998), Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles (2009) and Biohazard 4 (2005)). Although she can speak English, Li Bingbing had a thick accent, which required her to be audio dubbed as a result.
- Errores(at around 25 mins) When Ada explains how she killed the operatives in the central command station, a security-tape replay shows Ada standing in the center of the room shooting outwards. But when Alice first enters the room, there are glass walls in front of each workstation, with blood splatters on the inside. This would imply that the workers were shot from behind. If Ada had shot from the center of the room, the glass walls would have been shattered.
- Citas
The Red Queen: Don't listen to the traitor Wesker. I am in control now. Project Alice, Ada Wong, stay where you are.
Alice: [to Ada] Let's move.
The Red Queen: Project Alice, you're all going to die down here.
Alice: I've heard that before.
- Créditos curiososIn the opening credits sequence, those who are portraying characters from the video-game series, have their roles listed alongside their names. Everyone else (i.e. Milla Jovovich and co.) simply have their names listed.
- Versiones alternativasThe Chinese version digitally erases all USSR/CCCP symbols. No footage is cut.
