Ok show. Terrible host

It's a fun show to keep in the background while you do other stuff.

The host tries too hard to be funny and quirky but it ends up being absolutely cringy.

The winner is...

The person or team responsible for the cakes in Cash or Cake. They clearly have a higher degree of skill than any of nine contestants and they should have been involved in judging the cakes. It was a grave mistake to leave the judging to ignorant minor celebrities who know nothing about model cake making. This was an interesting idea badly executed.

Talented contestants but the host tries too hard

The cakes that the contestants make are incredibly well done and seeing what they could make next is what got me through to the end. That being said, I have 2 major issues with the show:

1. Mikey Day is fantastic in SNL but I feel like he's out of his element as host of a baking competition. His humour was way, way too dry for my taste.

2. The judges at the end of the episodes are kind of wasted due to having only 15 secs to guess. It turns into 3 people shouting guesses and having the person in the middle pressing the button in a frenzied rush every single time. Gets very boring and it always feels too rushed.

Overall, it's a decent show in my opinion.

Can't even SEE the cakes

I mean, how do they expect somebody to judge some thing that's 25 feet away from them? I know they don't want them inspected closely, but they are so far they can't even tell what some of the items are.

This show is interesting, but could use some fine tuning

I'm making this review to fight against all of the "I hate this host" comments. Mikey Day is funny and, in my opinion, this show would be entirely unwatchable without his campy/quirky brand of humor and energy (which is also used to great effect on SNL). To be fair, a show about cakes impersonating other objects is already absurd, so might as well go all the way.

The things that can be improved...

1. Why are the non-baking contestants sitting on a bench for 8 hours? I hope they are just there for maybe 30 min to get some show material, not for an actual 8 hours. They should come up with a better way to pick the baking 3, or send the non-bakers home after they lose the opening cake-off. They can focus more on the craft (or the backgrounds of the contestants) instead of the peanut gallery comments if they are worried about not having enough material/interaction.

2. The judges need to get a little bit closer OR the lights need to be a little bit brighter OR they need to have a little bit more time to decide. It looks like they are just too far away to see any details. Maybe there can be more decoys if they are worried about the judges getting in too close and making it too easy. They are viewing them from a comical distance. I think even 5 feet closer would be a big improvement.

3. The button-press screen for the judges does not work well. The 3 judges rarely ever agree and the whole selection process, while decently suspenseful for TV, is chaotic and doesn't make sense. Maybe they could give each judge their own panel and they all vote separately. Then, they can go by whichever cake gets the fewest votes as the cake. For example, if all 3 judges pick it, that cake would lose against a case where none, one, or two of the judges picked it. They could escalate the prize money with the degree of deception ($5k if it fools one judge, $10k if it fools two judges etc).

4. The guy cheated in the very first episode? What up with that? They should either let all of the contestants decorate the decoys or none of them should get to do that. Since the whole premise is MAKING CAKES TO LOOK LIKE OTHER THINGS, I'm not real comfortable with making other things look more like cake instead. Yes, it *really* matters. More than anything.

Fun & Creative

I can't believe the detail these bakers can put into a cake! A fun spin on the cake competition genre. And I do like the host, Mikey Day. Sure, his jokes are hokey, but they're supposed to be. I like that the competition rules/set up aren't super complex and I just love the details and creativity!

Has nobody seen SNL?

This show feels like it was pitched as a joke skit and then Mikey Day was just actually offered the job for real. He's in on the joke. This show feels like we're all in a simulation. Just, get stoned and enjoy it for what it is.

Seriously judges?

I like all the idea and I didn't hate the host but the judges!!!!! Sometimes it was too easy to know which one was the cake, yet they still pick another one. Also they should improve the way the judges pick the one they want since at the end of the time the one that has the screen in front of him is the one that has the last word.

THE MOST ANNOYING HOST EVER

I really love the concept of this show and it would be awesome to even be able to make it through the second episode. Sadly, I am unable because of the host of the show. Where is Duff Goldman when you need him?

Love the creativity

Love the creativity Yeah sure the host was a bit annoying but I got over it after a couple of the shows. Maybe season two they won't make the contestants that can't cook sit around for 8 to 12 hours a day. I would have been so mad just sitting around doing absolutely nothing for hours on end it's not fair to the contestants that don't get picked. They literally have to sit and watch for days on end. I'll watch a season two.

Host is too much

Enjoy the show, but the host is quite annoying and obnoxious. He tries to be funny, but he's not. Like the concept of the show, think maybe they could fine tune it a bit.

World's Most Annoying Host!!

I really wanted to like this show but the host made it impossible. The guest judges got on my nerves too but nowhere near as bad as the host. I watched the whole season in under an hour, fast forwarded to the end of each episode for the cake reveal. The show has potential if they would get someone less annoying to host.

Loved the premise

This is a super interesting show, every contestant is extremely talented. I was fooled into thinking items were regular items but they were fn cakes !

So wild !

The only lame part was the host and the dialogue or skits he did was annoying.

not bad

Netflix doesn't really have a good track record when it comes to baking shows. Only a few make it such as Nailed It and Sugar Rush. This is actually a good show and fun to watch. The host really isn't all that annoying either- he actually makes it more fun. It really doesn't deserve the poor ratings it got. Now whether or not this comes around for a season 2 is up to Netflix. I think it deserves a sophomore season.

Cheesy host

I absolutely love cooking and baking competition shows and this one is great. Except for the host he so cheesy he thinks he's funny but he's actually annoying. If you can tune him out it's a great show with some very talented bakers. But please I am begging on bended knee please, please, please, please get a new host before the next season. Otherwise as talented and exciting as it is to watch these bakers I am sorry but I think a lot of other viewers will agree it won't make to season season 3 due to lack of viewership. And these talented bakers deserve a host that really gets the amount of work and talent it takes to create such beautiful pieces.

Terrible host

The concept of the show is fun - the contestants are very talented. The host though is extremely annoying and not remotely funny. He made the show difficult to watch. Keep the show, lose the host.

Cheesy & Heartwarming

Mikey Day nails the quirky baking show host trope. I know most people are thinking he's annoying, but he plays quirk perfectly. It seems that nobody is aware that he is a comedic performer on a prestigious show (SNL), and not somebody they just picked up off the street.

As for the actual show, the concept was interesting and it was sweet seeing the bond form between cast and host.

Good but needs some tweaks

I enjoyed the show. I'm on the 2nd season now and doubt whether I will finish it. They changed the format and made it confusing to follow. It's pretty much a disaster and the contestants are not nearly as talented as Season 1, which was good but it took me a few episodes to warm up to the host, Mikey Day. He's a poor man's Jim Carey. But after a few episodes I enjoyed his stupid humor.

I skip about 15 minutes of each episode. The contestants that aren't baking are sitting around asking dumb questions like "what flavor is the cake" or "how long are you baking it". It's too boring to watch so I just fast forward it.

To improve it and keep audiences more involved I would recommend the following: 1. Move the judges closer. They are constantly squinting and wrenching their necks forward to get a better view. Move them up 10 feet.

2. The judges get only 20 seconds TOTAL to guess which is the cake. In season 1 there were 5 items to evaluate and make a decision. Season 2 is worse with the new format. I would double it to 40 seconds. They can't even look at them all in only 20 seconds.

3. Get REAL judges! I don't mind celebrity judges but they are all either comedians, actors or social media influencers. Clearly the producers want a younger audience but how about bringing in a few people we actually know and some that are in the business.

4. Do something else with the contestants that aren't baking. Listening to their dumb questions while they sit there reminds me of an execution with a peanut gallery watching. Its stupid.

Its good and fun entertainment but skipping 15 minutes of every episode is a must, at least for me it is.

Show with potential, host is horrible

Horrible host ruins the whole viewing experience. He does not care and the fake set up jokes are so bad.

In 2022 throwing cake on the ground for entertainment is just being ridiculously wasteful for no reason.

Loved the show and host!

Short and sweet show where everyone had a lot of fun!

Doesn't take itself so seriously and it doesn't need to. Would love more wholesome shows like this.

First Season very Good, Second season not as much

This review comes from someone who works in the cake industry and not very much from someone who watches that much TV.

Honestly, the Host was not really important to me. Nor annoying neither great, he just performed his role because someone had to do so.

The judges are sometimes funny and sometimes kinda clueless, but the idea of getting people who does not know about cakes trying to figure out if something is a real object or not, is a fun idea.

Now, leaving the production of the show behind, I must say that the first season had WAY BETTER contestants than the second one. The first season featured some really amazing decorators that made me feel ashamed and that I still had to work a lot to surpass myself. Nearly each contestant did something great and there were few who I felt didn't deserve being there. While the second season was disappointing. The cakes are bad, they hardly ever look like real stuff and even those ''clueless'' judges have caught them several times more than happened in the first season (there is one episode where no one of the contestants can't trick the judges because of how fake their cakes looked, I mean, come on) . In the first season, it was really hard to guess even freezing the show for a some seconds. However, 2nd season you can get it very easy, even my 85 y/o granny had deciphered which one is real and which is not more than once.

There was a downgrade in the quality of the cake creators, and given that the show is about making cakes that look like real things, the second season fails terribly.

The host ruins the show

This is an interesting idea, to watch skillful bakers create cakes that look like other items. That takes talent and experience so it was neat to watch it come together. It was impressive to watch them work on the details.

What made my stomach churn was the horrible host. Mikey Day is annoying, condescending, childish and incredibly cringey. Nothing about him is funny and every time he opens his mouth, he drags the show a little further down into the sewer. Watching him, hearing him; just made me angry. Having him on the s how is such a disservice to the bakers; if Netflix cancels this show, it will be due to Day. He's an imbecile and it is extremely difficult to keep watching the show with him on it.
