Little Rascals Cast Who Are Still Alive After Betsy Gay’s Passing: Know About Alfalfa’s Girlfriend’s Life Beyond Hollywood
Image
Betsy Gay, known for her roles in The Little Rascals franchise, passed away at the age of 96. Gay has reportedly made more than 40 on-screen appearances during her short-lived acting career. However, she later pursued a career in Western music after discovering her talent for yodeling. Her child actress career ended when she turned 13.

Gay was one of the few remaining cast members of Little Rascals, formerly known as Our Gang. Some of the major actors of the franchise, including Carl Switzer, Eugene Jackson, Ernie Morrison, Dickie Moore, Darla Hood, and Jack Davis had passed away.

The best Keiko O'Brien episodes to celebrate an underrated Trek heroine!
Image
Keiko O’Brien is one of Star Trek’s more underrated characters and has proven it in some top episodes!

Played by Rosalind Chao, Keiko O’Brien started as a minor character, the love interest for transporter chief Miles O’Brien (Colm Meaney) on Star Trek: The Next Generation. When O’Brien joined Deep Space Nine, Keiko, by now his wife, joined him. At first just popping up in brief scenes, Keiko got some nice spotlights helping O’Brien.

Many of her episodes are more about her supporting O’Brien during his many tribulations over DS9. Now and then, Keiko got more of a spotlight. She was part of one of the weirder Star Trek plot turns when she became pregnant, but an accident meant Major Kira had to carry the baby to term.

So, for those who do enjoy Keiko, here’s a look at her best showcases in Star Trek...

This is the best Star Trek show... and it's not Star Trek: The Next Generation
Image
Star Trek is all about Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations, but most fans will argue that the best of all the series is The Next Generation. Many of them will die on that hill. I am here to make the case for Deep Space Nine. To me, it is the darkest, most-risk-taking, most thought-provoking show.

Allow me to state my case.

The Next Generation launched with a killer pilot, but seasons one and two more or less lurched along, with slow, talky episodes and not much character development. Sure, there were standout episodes but early on, there were too few to support the premise that Tng was great from the start. I found the sets gorgeous and sleek, but also sterile and too brightly lit.

The show found its footing in season three and gave us several terrific episodes each season, none more than in season six, when we got the “Chain of Command” two-parter,...

Every Actor Who Has Played Alfalfa From The Little Rascals
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The very first "Our Gang" short film, "One Terrible Day," was released on September 10, 1922, kicking off a long, long, long cinematic tradition that has continued for nearly a century. Producer Hal Roach first created "Our Gang" as an antidote to children's entertainment of the era, which tended to be magical and fantastical. He wanted to depict kids as they were, complete with their misunderstandings of adult language, innocent concerns, and petty rivalries. All told, there were 220 "Our Gang" shorts released from 1922 to 1944, and the films featured a rotating bevy of young actors.

While "One Terrible Day" was the first film released, the third film, called "Our Gang," was the first one filmed. Roach distributed the shorts through Pathé Exchange from 1922 to 1927, but then shifted over to MGM through to 1936. The studios each distributed over a dozen shorts per year, and...

The Same Actor Who Played Young Picard In Star Trek: The Next Generation Also Portrayed A Member Of Jean-Luc's Family
Image
David Tristan Birkin portrayed a young Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) in Star Trek: The Next Generation two years after he had played Picard's nephew, Ren. Birkin has been acting since 1989, but he currently works as an artist and writer, as well as a Senior Lecturer in Photography at London College of Communication. Much of Birkin's photography centers on war, and his work has been exhibited around the world. He also co-founded Visible Justice, a research hub at the University of the Arts London that celebrates the combination of art with social justice.

In one of his first acting jobs, David Birkin portrayed Ren Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 4, episode 2, "Family," which sees Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) visit his brother on Earth. A couple of years later, Birkin popped up in Tng season 6, episode 7, "Rascals," as Captain Picard himself, after a transporter accident transformed him into a child.

How Old The Little Rascals Kids Are In The 1994 Movie
Image
The 1994 film The Little Rascals, directed by Penelope Spheeris, is a beloved comedy movie with accurately-aged children. The movie follows a group of anti-girl youngsters who enter a soapbox car rally, but the world turns upside down when one of the members develops a crush on a girl that distracts the group from the competition, ultimately leading the bullies (Butch and Woim) to win the prize car. The Little Rascals is a fun story that touches upon the greatness of friendship and the loyalty that comes with childhood bonds.

One debatable topic in the entertainment industry is when actors play roles that are much younger than their current age, causing a disruption of continuity. In The Little Rascals' original series and the movie, the characters are all children, so all the actors are children as well, but their ages are merely assumed in the film and not necessarily talked about much.

How Patrick Stewart Feels About Star Trek Recasting Jean-Luc Picard
Image
In 2009, "Star Trek" did something it had never done before: it selected an actor other than William Shatner to play the role of James T. Kirk. Luckily, Trekkies didn't cry foul and seemed intrigued at the idea that the younger, hotter Chris Pine would be stepping in. J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature film, to remind readers, rebooted the franchise's timeline, taking place when Kirk and his compatriots were younger and more impulsive. Every part was recast and the actors selected were all exemplary choices. Abrams' film was also more violent and action-packed than "Star Trek" had been before, leading to debates among hardcore fans as to whether or not it represented "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's peaceful vision of the future. (It doesn't.)

What the 2009 "Star Trek" proved, though, was that fans and audiences alike are perfectly willing to accept a new actor in a classic role. Of all the...

Star Trek’s Wesley Crusher Almost Had an Anime Girl Poster on The Next Generation
Image
Captain Picard shouting “Shut up, Wesley” in the season 1 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Datalore” has gone down in history as one of the most famous lines in the series. Now the hate for Wesley Crusher, played by Wil Wheaton, has always been overblown but even people who like Wesley have to admit, this line is hilarious.

But if things had gone a little differently in the history of Star Trek, Picard may have shouted “shut up, Wesley” for more than just speaking out of turn on the bridge. In fact, he might have gotten to actually say, “shut up about your dubs v. subs opinions, Wesley” because Wesley almost had a poster of anime girls in his quarters. Yes, an actual room on the Enterprise-d was almost adorned with an anime poster. Specifically of the characters Kei and Yuri from the ‘80s anime classic, Dirty Pair.

For those not in the know,...

Star Trek: DS9 Made 1 Tng Character More Important (And It Wasn’t Chief O’Brien)
Image
DS9 enhanced characters from Tng, notably the nuanced Ferengi development, bringing in original stars like O'Brien and Worf. Keiko O'Brien's character evolved from Tng's wife and mother to a more active role in DS9, facing complex villains. After the Dominion War, Keiko and O'Brien settled on Earth for a happy ending, showcasing her growth throughout DS9.

Chief O'Brien (Colm Meaney) wasn't the only Star Trek: The Next Generation character to become a more important figure in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. DS9 made many improvements on characters and species first introduced in Tng, most notably the more nuanced development of the Ferengi as an alien species. Many Tng stars also joined the cast of Star Trek: DS9 on either a regular or recurring basis from Colm Meaney and Michael Dorn as O'Brien and Worf to recurring stars like Robert O'Reilly as Chancellor Gowron or Rosalind Chao as Keiko O'Brien.

Ajay Devgn’s Score Card Of Box Office Clashes. (Photo Credit – Instagram/IMDb)

Ajay Devgn might be coronated as the King of clashes. The actor, who has been enjoying good word of mouth with his latest release, Shaitaan, is gearing up for a huge clash with Akshay Kumar on Eid with his film Maidaan, where he will take on Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. While the battle seems to be very interesting, this will not be the first time Ajay will lock horns with another superstar.

Recently, he opened up about the clash and mentioned that he wishes for both films to do well. In fact, last year, Gadar 2 and Omg 2’s clash proved that two good films can survive. In fact, Ajay’s clashing history also proves the same.

In the last 15 years, the actor has faced a lot of clashes, and the results have been surprising. While he definitely leads the scorecard,...

Why Worf’s Son Alexander Rozhenko Has Human Names, Not Klingon
Image
Alexander Rozhenko, son of Lt. Worf, had a human name because he was raised among humans. The clash between Worf's Klingon heritage and human upbringing caused many problems for him in Star Trek, which is why he wanted a different path for his son. Alexander took on the surname Rozhenko from Worf's adoptive human parents and eventually reconciled with his father and forged his own path.

There's a perfectly good reason why Alexander Rozhenko (Brian Bonsall), the son of Star Trek: The Next Generation's Lt. Worf (Michael Dorn) has a human name and not a Klingon one. Alexander was introduced in the Tng episode "Reunion", and appeared in eight episodes of Tng and two episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Worf and Alexander's relationship was strained, as the youngster didn't match up to his father's idealized image of a Klingon Warrior. The boy's human name likely exacerbated the...

Toronto 2023 Review: Riddle Of Fire, These Three Kids Will Do Anything To Do Nothing All Summer
Image
There’s something ethereal about Weston Razooli’s Toronto Midnight Madness closer, Riddle of Fire. It’s whimsical, but in a rough-hewn sort of way that puts it somewhere in the aesthetic neighborhood of Avalon Fast’s 2022 Slamdance discovery, Honeycomb. Both films exist in a world parallel to ours, but not unfamiliar or unrecognizable. While Honeycomb chooses a darker direction when compared to Riddle of Fire’s Little Rascals-esque childish escapades, they both occupy a world in which adults exist, but more as impediments to adventure instead of figures of authority. Razooli’s film exudes joy from every delicate 16mm frame, making it the perfect gateway for those weirdo young children looking for representation in a world of high gloss influencers and YouTube celebs. Right from the jump, Riddle of...

Fantasia Film Festival Awards: ’Red Rooms’ Wins Big, ‘Femme’ Earns ‘Condragulations’

There was no escaping “Red Rooms” at Fantasia.

Awarded the Cheval Noir Award for best feature at the 27th edition of the fest, Pascal Plante’s film also took honors for screenplay and Dominique Plante’s haunting score, as well as an outstanding performance award for Juliette Gariépy.

“The ultimate effect a film can achieve is to implant a significant and lasting emotional memory. ‘Red Rooms’ masterfully accomplished that goal,” said jurors David Hewlett, Brenda Lieberman, Jourdain Searles, Virginie Sélavy and Gary Sherman.

“With incredible skill and artistry, without resorting to gore or violence, this film delivers not only an extremely disturbing and frightening experience but introduces you to characters and situations you may never forget.”

Produced by Nemesis Films, it takes on the trial of a man accused of murdering teenage girls and selling videos of his crimes online. But Plante wanted to focus on women who follow him.

Steven Van Zandt's Sopranos Role Could Have Been Cut Short By Bruce Springsteen
Image
"The Sopranos" cast are all New Jersey icons now, but only one of them was before the series premiered. That was Steven Van Zandt, aka "Little Steven," of the E Street Band. Van Zandt is one of the band's guitarists, alongside Patti Scialfa, Nils Lofgren, and of course the Boss himself Bruce Springsteen. During their hiatus in the '90s, Van Zandt found a new gig on TV even though he had never acted before.

In 1997, Van Zandt gave a speech introducing The Rascals before they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "The Sopranos" creator David Chase saw this routine and contacted Van Zandt about appearing on his show. Van Zandt had previously conceived of the character Silvio Dante, a former hitman turned club owner. So, they added the character to Tony Soprano's crew. Thanks to budget concerns, the luxurious '50s-style establishment that Van...

14 Underrated Star Trek: The Next Generation Episodes
Image
Running for 178 episodes over seven years, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" deservedly picked up plenty of awards on its ongoing mission, and it's not difficult to pick out episodes that truly stood out as exemplary. There were some absolute stinkers, too like the lazy budget-saving clip show "Shades of Gray," and "Code of Honor" and "Up the Long Ladder," which form a double-bill of offensive cultural insensitivity.

However, there are those stories that often get overlooked, brushed under the space carpet in favor of award-winning episodes — stories that still hold up today but didn't make a particular impact on release. This article is a celebration of the "Next Generation" stories that flew under the radar yet are more than worthy of a rewatch.

To be fair, any episode in which a character delivers the line, "I believe you will also de-evolve into an earlier form of primate — possibly similar to...

Jane Withers Dies: Former Child Star And Voice Actress Was 95
Image
Former child star Jane Withers died on Saturday evening in Burbank, California, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 95.

The Atlanta native began a career in show business as a young child thanks to her mother’s determination to have one child in show business. Even her name was picked specifically so that “even with a long last name like Withers, it would fit on a marquee,” according to a statement from her daughter Kendall Errair.

“My mother was such a special lady, Errair said. “She lit up a room with her laughter, but she especially radiated joy and thankfulness when talking about the career she so loved and how lucky she was.”

No official cause of death has been revealed.

By the time Withers was 2, she was enrolled in tap dancing classes and learning to sing. Her career officially kicked off a year later after winning a local contest called Dixie’s Dainty Dewdrop,...

Review: Producer Leon Thomas Adds “Singer” to His Resume on ‘Genesis’
Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Kangana Ranaut, and Lisa Haydon in Rascals (2011)
The head-turning moment on Leon Thomas’ debut Ep Genesis comes during “Blessing Interlude.” The drummer tees up a loping, unfussy beat, and the guitarist adds an inquisitive phrase, a lick that hangs and bends in mid-air. Thomas sings prettily, trying to coax a prospective partner into returning his interest; a thin coating of backing vocals, just enough, slides through the background; the whole thing ends in less than two minutes — far too soon.

Thomas knows his stuff: He’s only 25, but as a member of the production duo the Rascals,...

Hollywood’s Own Killing Fields: Covering Celebrity Gun Deaths
Barack Obama
President Barack Obama’s call to action to stem the tide of gun violence has particular relevance to Hollywood. While there are industry conservatives who disagree with the president’s call for increased background checks and vetting measures, and liberals who will feel the president hasn’t gone far enough, there is also a long trail of industry insiders and their loved ones lost to gun violence. I have had the grim task of reporting many of these over the last quarter-century, and when I sat down and contemplated the carnage in the wake of the president’s appeal Monday, I was taken aback at how long the list actually is.

In 1989, when 21-year-old My Sister Sam star Rebecca Schaeffer was gunned down in her doorway by a deranged fan, the Screen Actors Guild spearheaded a campaign to make it more difficult for stalkers to obtain the home addresses of celebrities.

Lisa Haydon is Ajay Devgns second heroine in Baadshaho
Ajay Devgn
It seems that with the release of Ajay Devgn's Drishyam nearing, Milan Luthria has started off with the casting of the actor's next film in full swing. Two days ago, we had reported that Shruti Haasan will be a leading lady in Baadshaho and now yet another actress has been signed to play the second female lead. Lisa Haydon of Queen and The Shaukeens fame will now play the other heroine in the film. While Shruti has been paired opposite Ajay Devgn for the first time, Lisa and Ajay had a few scenes together when she did a cameo in the Kangna Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt starrer Rascals. It is being said that the reason behind roping in Lisa, was to add certain amount of tadka in the film and her bohemian and sexy image impressed the filmmaker. 7 films that Ajay Devgn might always regret of
Giving out duds at Box-office is not harmful but what is really demeaning is being part of unworthy, embarrassing movies. Though we are not making any perception about the caliber and potential of an actor like Ajay Devgn, there are few flicks which the superstar would also want disown like us or he might always regret of. While we take a look at the disasters he readily (and repeatedly) did, we also hope Ajay steers clear of it in future.

Action Jackson: With the actor putting on his dancing shoes, everyone deemed it to be an image changeover for Ajay Devgn and the most-anticipated spectacle of the year. On the contrary filmmaker Prabhu Dheva and Ajay's combination was shunned by all.

Son Of Sardar:It seems Ajay didn't really think before signing up this film. Looking at this choice we believe the ambition of ruling box-office has replaced doing performance-driven...

'End Of Watch' Soundtrack Features Public Enemy, The Delfonics & Bonus Cut From Josh Homme
Released on September 18th, we're a little bit behind the eight ball on "The End Of Watch" soundtrack. However, thanks to LoudWire, we've come across an additional extra musical tidbit which is arguably more interesting than the original release. While the soundtrack disc itself features an original score composed by David Sardy ("Zombieland," "21"), a classic track from Public Enemy ("Harder Than You Think")  and cuts by the Latin Rascals and The Delfonics, the iTunes release features an extra original new song from Queens of The Stone Age Frontman Josh Homme.  Titled, "Nobody To Love" and also featuring Sardy, the cut is apparently heard in the film's final credits (and you can listen to it below) and was released in low-key form on iTunes only. As you likely already know, "End Of Watch" was directed by David Ayer and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna...

Ajay versus Akshay, the race gets hotter!
Just before the success of Bol Bachchan, detractors had already started pulling down Ajay Devgn from the top line of stars because his last two releases, Rascals and Tezz, had met with disastrous fates. This was quite similar to the treatment meted out to his Suhaag and Khakee co-star, Akshay Kumar, who was going through a very bad phase until Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore came along and propelled him in to the top slot. However, now there is a race to the top with both...

Sanjay Dutt buys remake rights of Badri
Sanjay Dutt
That Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn are thick buddies is known to one and all. Ajay starred in Sanjay's home production Rascals while Sanjay too has been seen in Ajay's home productions like All The Best and the forthcoming Son Of Sardaar. Now taking this friendship ahead, Sanjay Dutt has acquired the remake rights of Telugu super-hit Badri and plans to make a Hindi remake of the film with Ajay Devgn in the lead. Sanju apparently feels Ajay would be apt for the role which was originally essayed by Pawan Kalyan. And even though the film will be made under Sanjay Dutt Productions, Sanju Baba will be giving Ajay a free hand in deciding the cast, director etc. Moreover, Sanju Baba has also said that he would like to have Ajay in all the films made under his banner. Looks like Dutt wants to make amends for the fiasco called Rascals.

Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin, and Prachi Desai in Bol Bachchan (2012)
Does Ajays Bol Bachchan have to be wary of Spider-Man
Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin, and Prachi Desai in Bol Bachchan (2012)
Hollywood can't be taken for granted anymore. Ajay Devgn realised it hard way with his Tezz being challenged by The Avengers over the week gone by. Irony of the situation is that his next release Bol Bachchan has an even mightier competition, what with The Amazing Spider-Man releasing alongside.

"Bol Bachchan arrives on July 6 and The Amazing Spider-Man three days earlier to bring on the July 4 celebrations. It can't get bigger than this. Spiderman is a worldwide phenomenon and needless to say, it is the biggest international franchise in India as well. When films like Avatar, Harry Potter, 2012, Mission Impossible and now even The Avengers can create such a huge impact on the Indian box office, imagine the euphoria that The Amazing Spider-Man would create when it releases", comments an observer.

Those in the know-how of Bol Bachchan strength aren't really overtly worried with competition from their Western counterpart and...

Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut in Tezz (2012)
Makers of Tezz clear air on Kangna
Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut in Tezz (2012)
Seems like the flip-flop around Kangna's role in movies has become a trend. Even though those around her claim that she plays a bit part in Tezz and she too is keeping mum around the so called issue related to her disappearance from the film's promotional plan, the makers insist that none of that is true. In fact they are going all out to ensure that she gets due credit for the film and there is no bad blood towards her as was the case in her last release Rascals.

"It is really surprising that she has been dragged into a controversy like this when there is neither any smoke nor any fire", says a close associate of the actress, "She is all there for the movie and by no means does she have a small role in the film. She is as integral to the film as she was...

Inside story of Ajay Devgn's cold war with Kangna Ranaut
Kangna Ranaut and Ajay Devgn were good friends until things went horribly wrong between them during the shoot of 'Rascals'. While there are speculations galore about what happened between the two stars, the result is that Kangna was deliberatly kept out of 'Rascals' promotions. It seems the bad blood between them continued even during the filming of their upcoming movie 'Tezz'.

Reports say that Ajay apparently kept a safe distance from the actress as soon as he learnt that Kangna was part of the film directed by Priyadarshan. Ajay had even expressed his displeasure over t ...

Ringing in Bollywood’s worst with Ghanta Awards
If industry trade statistics are to be believed, for every single good film that is made, there are 10 other bad ones that release week after week. For anyone familiar with the Razzies concept of Hollywood, the ‘Ghanta Awards’ (‘ghanta’ being the slang for ‘rubbish’) is its desi version to celebrate and recognize the worst that Bollywood offers in terms of films, actors, technicians among some other categories.

In its second year, the awards function was held over the weekend to a packed house. Those who could not attend had the option of watching its online live stream (something that none of the bigger awards have been able to achieve yet). While invites were sent out to all the nominees, Sonam Kapoor was the lone celeb attendee, went sportingly on the stage to collect her award confessing “Thank you so much! I finally won an award!”.

Keeping Sonam company in the audience was photographer Atul Kasbekar,...

Silence does the trick for Kangana
Barring Tanu Weds Manu, which also stays on to be the biggest success ever for Kangana Ranaut and Double Dhamaal which was basically an all boys show, 2011 was pretty much a forgettable year for her. Whether it was the biggie Game or a film which (as per own confession) was done for monetary reasons, none of them did wonders at the box office. Rascals was the final nail in the coffin and the controversies that emerged out of it were ugly enough to force her into oblivion. "Th...

Coming soon - Sanjay Dutt as a cop in Department
He may have gone all violent, gory and brutal in Agneepath as the antagonist. However Sanjay Dutt is now all set to get into the other side of law with his next biggie - Department. Since his comedies like Rascals, Chatur Singh Two Star and No Problem hardly enticed them enough, they are gearing up to see what Dutt has to offer now while donning a 'khakhi'. Says an insider, "Everyone is...

Top 10 Female Playback Singers of 2011
Our leading ladies and item girls will be nowhere near half as attractive without the talented singers that voice their musical numbers. What’s more, while our cinematic experiences with our on-screen goddesses have a time limit, our playback goddesses are always with us in iPods, tablets, computers, radios and more. This year Bollyspice salutes the 10 female playback singers who astounded us with their vocals throughout the year.

10. Neha Bhasin

Ms, Bhasin (of ‘Viva!’ and ‘Kuch Khaas’ (Fashion) fame) epitomised the image of a Punjabi rock chick and commanded a nation to rock and roll with her in ‘Dhunki’ (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan). While Katrina Kaif may/may not have done justice to her vocalisations, Neha sure did make a place for herself in our hearts and on this list.

9. Nandani Srikar

Ms. Srikar successfully vocalised a classical indian/rock fusion with ‘Bhare Naina’ (Ra.One) this year and proved that...
