Kamal Hassan to inaugurate Bengaluru International Film Festival on Thursday
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Hassan will inaugurate the 6th Bengaluru International Film Festival on Thursday at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College (Near Mysore bank Circle).

Bekas by Karzan Kader will be screened as the opening film while The Rocket by Kim Mordaunt will close the festival.

The festival that is scheduled to run from December 26 to January 2, 2014 will showcase 152 films from 45 countries, with Country Focus on Taiwan and Germany.

On December 29 at 11.30 am, the festival will host a seminar on ‘The Digital Experience: Talking Red, Alexa and Black Magic’. The panelists – Dr Bedabrata Pain, Manohar Joshi, Br Viswanath – will share their experiences with lighting, composition, resolution, conditions under hot weather, battery life and many problems they faced and solutions found while handling the cameras. The seminar will be presided over by Dr Bedabrata Pain, scientist, filmmaker and specialist on digital cinema, who will guide the seminar through the relevant topics and answer...

Cannes Grand Prix winner Inside Llewyn Davis to release in India
Oscar Isaac in Balada de un hombre común (2013)
Inside Llewyn Davis directed by the Coen brothers, that won the Grand Prix (Grand Jury Prize), the second most important award at Cannes Film Festival this year, will release in India on December 13, 2013.

The film, to be released by PVR Director’s Rare, is releasing in India prior to its Us release scheduled for December 20, 2013.

The Us production is based on a week in the life of a young singer-songwriter as he steers through New York’s folk music scenes in the 1960s. It features Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman. The film recently screened in the World Cinema section of the 15th Mumbai Film Festival.

PVR Director’s Rare is soon bringing to India other festival-favourite films like Karzan Kader‘s Bekas, Asghar Farhadi’s The Past, Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin and Susanne Bier’s Love Is All You Need.

5 Indian films to screen at Fribourg International Film Festival 2013

Stanley Ka Dabba, Arjun, Mumbai Cha Raja, One More and Kalpana will be screened at the 27th edition of Fribourg International Film Festival (Fiff), to be held from March 16-23, 2013 in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Stanley Ka Dabba, Arjun and Mumbai Cha Raja will screen under the FIFFamily In India section. The newly-introduced FIFFamily is a mini festival under Fiff for the attending parents and children. The section will screen three selected films from the same country.

One More will screen under the Genre Cinema: Escape to Victory! section and Kalpana will screen in the Hommage à World Cinema Foundation section.

The festival that will play host to 90 feature and 20 short films from 45 countries, will open with Karzan Kader’s Bekas and close with Wong Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster.

Dubai Film Fest: Awards to “Gulabi Gang”, “Char… No Man’s Island”, “Ship of Theseus”, and “Valley of Saints”
Nishtha Jain’s “Gulabi Gang” won Best Film Award in Muhr Asia Africa documentary section at the 9th Dubai Film Festival. Awards were announced at the closing ceremony on Sunday, December 16, 2012.

Sourav Sarangi’s “Char … No Man’s Island” won a special mention in the same category.

Egyptian actress Aida El-Kashef won Best Actress award in Muhr Asia Africa Feature category for Anand Gandhi’s film “Ship of Theseus”.

Musa Syeed’s “Valley of Saints” got a special jury prize in the Muhr Asia Africa feature category.

Winners of the 2011 Palm Springs International ShortFest!
The Palm Springs International ShortFest, billed as the largest short film festival in North America, has announced its Festival award winners! 331 short films were screened, but in the end, only 18 categories were awarded.

I love and totally support the Palm Springs International ShortFest, many winners move on to nab an Oscar! According to Festival Director, Darry Macdonald, "It.s been a remarkable year for ShortFest, with record attendance and a rapturous response to the programming by audiences, industry and filmmakers alike. The Film Market and industry programs were particulary active, adding hugely to the Festival.s success. I.m confident a number of major future filmmakers emerged here this year and will go on to enliven the feature film world."

As definite favorites emerged from an incredibly strong selection of shorts, the winning list well-represented the demographics of the overall line-up. From 32 Australian short films in the festival, a few were sure to rise to the top – Elizabeth Tadic’s “Umoja: No Men Allowed” receiving the Grand Jury Award (while Christopher Stollery’s very funny “dik” was by far the most recommended film in the marketplace); and, with many well-known directors, there were always going to be some that ascended (Terry George – writer/director of “Hotel Rwanda” and “Reservation Road” – picked up $500 for his second place effort).

Academy Announces Medal Placement For 2011 Student Academy Award® Winners
Beverly Hills, CA . Fifteen students from colleges and universities around the world were honored Saturday night (June 11) as winners in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 38th Annual Student Academy Awards® competition. For several days, they had participated in a slate of industry-related activities and social events culminating in the awards ceremony, which featured as presenters actress Jennifer Garner, Oscar®-nominated animator John Musker, and Academy Award-winning producer Edward Zwick alongside Academy President Tom Sherak at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
