I remember as a kid watching the old Benji films on TV back in the 1980s. Back then they were cute harmless family films that anyone could enjoy. This new Benji, I'm not sure if it's a reboot of the franchise, or just another entry in the same series that began in 1974, is also a great family film. Though it touches on themes that would have never been considered in 1974.This is to be expected though as children are, today, exposed to and aware of, things that children in the early 70s were not. So what you have is a family film that features adorable children who remain innocent but are forced to deal with very serious situations. The new Benji, for what it's worth, is a true wonder dog; capable of doing tricks to get out of jams that would blow any expert dog trainer's mind. This is no ordinary street mutt, to say the least. Overall, I would say that this is a fantastic family film though I recommend that the parents stick around while the kids are watching because surely there will be some questions that will need to be answered.

I liked this movie it has a good mix of love and suspense...
To be honest i am amazed by the Goofs people mention...
This movie is a goof.. no dog is that rational en forward thinking...
although i once owed a dog (beagle) that indeed pushed a chair close to the table to get to the meat that was there...

This film delivers make-believe reality where emotions count instead of slapstick stuff with goofy bad guys.
I particularly felt Benji when he was in the street on a rainy day looking in gloom early on in the film, and the mysticism at first, about his new equally intelligent girlfriend-to-be tramp hound of which who also surprises me along the course of the movie.

These movies always make me cry. The opening scene shattered my heart completely. These babies how do they do it. People may say it's dark but this movie is amazing.
It's pure love. It will definitely make you cry but it's worth a watch. Just watch it when you're ready to shed some tears.

This was a good film. Absolutely loved the dog and the family. However, it was very emotional and made cry a lot. It was a very moving but I don't think it's suitable for young children. I would say it's probably suitable for 12+. I would say family film is a bit misleading. Apart from the emotional side, I really enjoyed it

I sat down with my 7 year old daughter to watch this because it looked like a sweet family movie. She started crying half way through and nearly cried the entire time. I wish it would have been more fun and heartwarming but it was sad and actually pretty scary for a young child. The kidnappers should have been toned down a bit. I don't think it was neccessary to make it so intense. It is supposed to be a family movie!

My 9 and 7 year olds both ended up crying hysterically watching scary kidnappers in evil clown masks abduct two kids in a very aggressive and scary manner. Great job for a kids movie named after a cute dog. Thanks so much for introducing the violence of the world into early childhood.

I think Benji is a sad but happy movie that will make you cry and laugh!! The love that dogs have for people is never ending and this movie really brings that to life. The little dog has many big tricks to show. This was a amazing movie and I hope everyone will enjoy it!!! :)

My 'cook's 11 year old didn't want to see it but became engaged from the start. He repeated several phrases where it touched him, and rooted for the heroes. My 4 year old shed a few tears at the appropriate spot.so it was a success.

This is a revival of the classic Benji (1974) motion picture, that was a success back in its day (for more reasons than one).
And like with the original "Higgins" dog-actor, you watch this for the impressive dog performance, stunts and action! Some of which left me speechless.. and others made me laugh out loud.
The story is quite similar to the original, but a good modern update to the script while being a faithful adaptation. Ultimately, it is a family-entertainment dog movie with heartwarming elements. It also gives off that heightened-reality you often find in kid movies.
I enjoyed it more than expected, so I would easily recommend it while setting your expectations low (it's like 1 hour 20 anyway).

Benji is an adorable dog but this movie is way to scary, and mature, for little kids! The kids' dad has passed away and they are left alone without any type of supervision while their mom works. They then get kidnapped by two creepy guys while trying to reclaim something of their dad's! It's like a scary Dateline episode! Don't watch with your lilttle ones (under 8 at least)!

As a pup, Benji was left by himself after his entire family gets captured by the dogcatcher. He grows up on the streets. He is befriended by boy Carter and follows him home. Carter and his sister Frankie try to hide him from their mother Whitney (Kiele Sanchez), but she banishes the dog. The kids go to Sam King's pawn shop which is getting robbed by Syd and Titus. The robbers kidnap the kids after they see their faces. Benji is not giving up on finding the kids.
Joe Camp returns to his franchise. For this one, he is handing the reins over to his son Brandon Camp. The movie needs to lower the creepy danger level. Let's not sell the kids or whatever to whoever. It is the second time that Benji goes to the rundown hideout house. The robbers should abandon the kids at that point. They could do a version of down-the-well situation. They could always catch the robbers in some other way. The point is to take away the kidnapping or realistically worst possibilities from the movie. After all, this needs to be a kids movie and for their parents.

My 8 year old cried from the half way point right to the end of the movie. The dog was great the storyline too intense and emotional. This is not a light family movie.

Captured both the original movie with a new storyline the fit in perfectly! After my daughter saw the movie, I went on eBay and bought the original plush toy .

I used to watch Benji when I was a kid and so thought my two dog loving daughters would enjoy a light hearted fun family movie. Instead we got a dark and joyless movie that produced plenty of tears and no laughter. I am now laying down consoling my 8 year old who is really upset. Whoever put this together should work on horror movies and not children's movies.

My children were literally sobbing out loud watching this and after. We only forged through it thinking it would get cuter and happier but really did not.

I grew up loving the original Benji movie and was so excited when this one was released and could not wait to watch it with my younger children. I was not disappointed and my kids equal fell in love with Benji as much as I did.

Benji is so cut so I really laughed through out the movie, but it also make me think we should care more and love more all our four leg friends, they're so venerable
