Forensics: Catching the Killer

I enjoy watching this. They don't do a reconstruction of the crime. Probably made during pandemic...not sure. People are interviewed one at a time either outside or totally alone inside. Courtroom scenes are totally empty courtrooms with a voice-over. This is more about the effect on the community, rather light on forensics considering the title. Liked the 30-yr old cold cases solved by familial DNA searches. Also interesting to hear what the original detectives looked for on the scene. And families interviewed about murderers found among their members. There is quite a bit of repeated scenes like swabbing blood stains on fabric that they used in multiple episodes. I was familiar with many of these crimes, but this was just enough of a different point of view that it was well worth watching.

I am enjoying this series, the contents and expert speakers are all good. BUT the main narrator (is it Ceri Jackson?) is speaking in such a low monotone voice with no variation, it is so off-putting, do they think this adds gravitas? I have actually stopped watching a couple of the shows as it was so bad. The contents of the show is interesting and informative, it is worrying what people do to each other. The various experts all know there fields and come across well. It is interesting how the Police pick up on small leads and follow it through. But they really need to stop with the awful narrator, how can anyone in the production team think this narration is adding to the programme. If this change were made it would definitely up the star count.

This is a good true crime series which allows us to watch the process of solving murders. The only annoyance is the "narrator" whose fake emotional voice reads a script which states the obvious repetitively. She is utterly superfluous and I fast forward every time I hear her voice. Generally the police investigators are good at explaining the way the cases unfold and family members of the victims contribute their stories which is interesting and helpful in understanding the process of investigating the crime. In cold cases sometimes the older police investigators of the original crime case ramble on and could be edited to improve it.
