Geylang

I went into this thinking "another low budget South East Asian film", which will typically have poor writing, plotholes and a good ending where everyone learns their lessons.. I have to admit it does stand out above the rest as there is a good depth to some of the characters. A nice homage to the district in Singapore that has an aura around it. If anyone has been to Singapore you might not have heard of Geylang, but stay long enough and you will hear about what it is, or used to be, and this film amplifies that, focussing in on a narrow gritty story. However it is hard to believe the streets are so empty, even at night.

The storyline is messy and confusing, with NO CLEAR ENDING!

The pace is ok, but it keeps pushing back from 3 days ago, 1 week ago, 3 months ago... and you need to "re-adjust" it back to current, else you will be confused!

It is an 18-rated movie, mainly because of the vulgar words, by Mark Lee Guo Huang (as expected), and some acceptable violence. I m ok with a certain level of vulgarity, BUT NOT too much like in this movie, which sounded over-done!

The movie goes around the relationships of 'father-and-son' and 'father-and-daughter'. Basically, there are 3 'sets' of the above relationships, and all of them suffer from some kind of sickness. I suppose the story is meant to be emotional and involving, BUT it failed badly, and it is NOT touching at all.

The movie involves a doctor, a lawyer, and a gangster. All of them murdered people, even with all kinds of fights and noises from the street to the clinic, but none of the Singaporeans saw it or reported it to the police. Weird!

The ending is hanging badly! Many things were not well addressed, e.g. What happened to the person who was murdered by Mark Lee and his dad? So what happened to the lawyer? When the movie ended, I asked myself.. "What had I just watched? What's going? So?"

I gave 3 out of 10. I am sorry that I do NOT know how to appreciate such a movie, which has NO HEAD and NO TAIL! I only remember the vulgarities by Mark Lee, and that's it!

Well I can't say what, but let's just say most of the things that happen here - so no pun intended. I am a sucker for movies like this one. "Funny" (it's a movie so do not get offended, I would not like to see anything like this happen in real life ... to anyone) and really cleverly written. Twisted and depraved at times (no prisoners taken) and probably unrealistic ... health wise that is) ... but filled with tension and edge of your seat stuff.

The movie is really something ... well I'd say special. If you like convenient things happening quite often - also there are flaws when it comes to logic or how stuff can happen (like leaving a building without anyone noticing, at the beginning of the movie, just try not to think about it ... at all) ... but the movie needs you to suspend your disbelief!

I would say this is a mind blowing movie with all surprise and unexpected events. Good angles and scenes

It takes some time to appreciate and finally understand the storyline and last big boss behind all the events that actually occurred . Good movie but is somewhat suspense.

It revolves among few main characters in the movie and seamlessly connect them together which is really out of expectation and somewhat mindblowing .

The camera angles , environment settings really does bring out the suspenseful side of the movie . Not recommended for faint hearted but be prepared to get your mind blown by the surprising elements.
