So, I started watching this last summer since I was bored and there was nothing else to watch. I barely remember the first episodes in details but they were fine. I usually watch it when I eat lunch since I like watching something while eating. lol
It's an OK show and I like the dancing and I think that the intro is well-done (weird to say). However, it's not like the older Disney shows. I remember watching Hannah Montana or Wizards of Waverly Place. They were cheesy and silly too and not the most meaningful thing to watch but there were some life lessons in them and there was some magic in them, they were waking some feelings in me and I couldn't wait to watch the next episode or if more episodes were already out, I watched like 3 or 4 at once. They were just fun shows which had something to grab your attention.
But Shake It Up couldn't do the same. I don't mind the bad acting since I don't expect brilliant acting in such shows. The dancing is cool and the dance scenes are well-done. I had stopped watching it for a while since I couldn't really find the episodes and it just didn't made me like it like it was with the old Disney shows. There are kids who like it, of course. But I found it kinda dumb like most people here. I'm fine with the repeatable topic for kids trying to succeed in show business since many children would love to and there's nothing bad in it. But it doesn't really show children dealing with the everyday problems like school, parents and doesn't really teach you anything at the end. Also, they dress like adults at times. Many teens do this nowadays though. And the characters are like my age. I do dress more like a woman sometimes but just on holidays or something. Maybe it's just that kids today are different than us. Even in real life kids are more stuck up and sassy than people my age and a bit older used to be as children so shows change too.

When I 1st saw the early promos for this show, I didn't think it would be stupid, but when I found out that Roshon Fegan would be in it, that was the main reason I decided to check it out, and I found it pretty good, but it's true that all the jokes have been used before in other Disney shows, and that it's rather predictable, but it's alright. The acting isn't bad or amateur, but it can be better and more professional, and for those of you who think Davis Cleveland(Flynn) is a bad actor, it's only because he's so young that his acting is not believable, but overall the acting is decent, but nowhere near as good as most other Disney Channel shows. As for the dancing, it's not a crowd-pleaser because Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman are alright, but not that great of dancers(though I hope they improve by the 2nd or even the possible 3rd season), and the only real dance pro is Roshon Fegan and anyone who's seen the Camp Rock Movies would know that, and It kinda makes it worse knowing that Rosero McCoy, who choreographed Camp Rock 2, is the choreographer of this show, but it's not so bad. But here's something I find very irritating and shocking: Disney got Bella and Zendaya to sing a song called "Watch Me" which annoyed me so much because even though Zendaya is credited as a singer, she and Bella are terrible at it, and they even filmed a music video which wasn't bad but they can't sing. Speaking of music, I think I should add that I only like 4 songs from this show, my favorite being Dance For Life by Adam Hicks featuring Drew Seeley. The music in this show also needs some serious improvements. The main reason I'm so mad about this is because I would've hoped that the 2 stars of the show wouldn't be singers, but now that I see them singing, I have a bad feeling that they will turn Rocky and Cece into singers on the show which I will dread for life. Another thing I will definitely agree with is that Ty and Deuce don't add much to the story lines for the show because all Ty does is dance on the street, try to woo girls, and hang out with Flynn while Deuce just cracks jokes and seems like a bad boy but turns out to be cool. They were simply developed to complete the ensemble. All in All, Shake it Up is a good show, but it can be better, so I will give it a 7.5/10
I could probably comment on how Disney is going downhill, or that they need to stop with the shows about double-lives or trying to get into the show business. I will give it the benefit of the doubt that the jokes are a result of bad writing, the acting has potential though. These are the kinds of jokes I'd probably find funny if I was still 4-11 years old, because they've been recycled so much on Disney. For the most part it's so unrealistic, and need I explain why? It should only take you one episode to determine no 13 year old girl is THAT independent in the middle of Chicago. I remember shows like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire, that are arguably just as cheesy as anything else Disney puts out. However, the main difference was it taught kids valuable life lessons, and TV doesn't care about that as much any more. The kids act spoilt, sassy, like they can always win and always get whatever they want. If kids keep growing up with this idea in their head that they can be sassy little brats as adults without getting beaten up or killed, it just shows you what's wrong with today's generation.
However, I do have a guilty pleasure for the fashion, the theme song is catchy and danceable, and the actors are really cute. However, those aren't really good reasons to like a show, but it did lift my rating from a 1 to a 3.

I watch this show with my little sisters, but it's the worse show Disney has produced yet. I like Wizards of Waverly places, but this show is just BAD in general. The jokes aren't funny, the story line is a bore, it consists of bad overacting and terrible dancing. The girls dance incredibly sloppily and the only character who can really dance is Roshon Fegan. During each episode, I feel like what they define as "acting" are just their lines said screaming. The only positive things I have to say about this show is that I like the theme song, the boys are cute, and the two main characters are gorgeous; that's probably the only reason Disney picked them in the first place--after all, they can't dance, and they definitely can't act.
The show like all DCOS has a simple premise but with a twist in this case the main characters: "CeCe" (Thorne) and "Rocky" (Zendaya) are dancers on the most popular dance/music TV program in Chicago (a la Hairpray), CeCe lives With her little brother Flynn (Davis Cleveland) and her single Mom, Georgia (their house seems to be so far the the main set of the show, even though the show is promoted as a "buddy show", but it seems that Thorne is the main character and not Zendaya) then we have Gunther and Tinka (who are stereotypical European foreign exchange students with fake accents) the main characters fr-enemies. So far the show's been average but in my opinion it has potential but the main problem with the show is that the two leads are not most appealing persons, then there's Gunter who displays flamboyancy at its peak yet it is covered up by the fact he's foreign, i don't understand how Kenton duty came to be be this character he's the only one of all the cast i have seen before, in a movie called MY NAME IS KHAN where he did a a great tear dropping performance yet, apparently sell-ed his soul to Disney to become this unfunny idiotic character, NOW what i like the most about it's the fantastic performance of youngster Davis Cleveland, he's the funny and smart of the show, and then there's Adam Irigoyen who does great too as a dorky cool street smart character and the most realistic of all
