Joanna Lumley's Nile

Joanna Lumley is absolutely enchanting in this trip down the Nile. She is amazingly sweet with everyone she meets, and brings out the best in her many new acquaintances. Her humor is never over the top , but subtle and it fits with lighter moments. This is woven with facts in a nice blend. Often Joanna is the only woman in the places she travels in the first part of the film but she is a great sport about it, and it is obvious that she is treated with respect and reverence. Then in the second part she attends a wedding and meeting many women, and later encourages young girls at a dinner to follow their dreams to be athletes. They show her their medals with pride. She also meets a woman who is going to crown Miss Malaika in Southern Sudan, where attitudes towards woman are relaxed. Lumley has a wonderful way of connecting with locals, and of admiring the beautiful nature and seasons. The Nile is brought to life in this enchanting voyage.

Like i said in the review.... she really is such a treat, delight, Honest... & most of all she makes the most of her time in these different places.... just watch them and you will get what im saying.... Enjoy!!

My wife and I watched Absolutely Fabulous when it was first on and still watch it from time to time in reruns. We were always impressed with Lumley's acting as the bimbo-like character Patsy. Unfortunately, after watching the first two episodes of this series, we discovered that it wasn't acting at all; she was just being herself. We gave up about half way through the Sudan when we just couldn't take any more of her antics.

If she wasn't bad enough, we spotted 3 errors of fact in the presentation during the first episode alone, one of which was repeated in the second episode. The people doing the research needed to do some basic fact checking before giving Lumley the script.

Michael Palin, where are you when we need you?

Thanks Joanna - have now been looking at your other exploits! Michael Palin dosn't have your body, but he's also a comedian. That was especially pointed at "markfranh" - lol

Anyhoooo - i find your narrator voice very relaxing. Many many actors do so called "adventures into the wild" etc, but they lack that relaxing atmosphere when narrating - you don't. I don't want to concentrate on listening too much, because i shall miss the beautifull video as well!! That ain't right. You do it perfectly.

I have seen your other exploits of course and am just as enchanted.
