Visually Impressive, Charismatic, and Interesting

Call of the Night started out as a great visual experience and all that was going for it was a certain vibe that everyone enjoyed. But as this series went on, it's world building, creative direction and characters grabbed my attention. The anime is primarily a romance inside a supernatural world, and the romance too started as a trivial relationship but grew on me as the anime went on. And it's being said all around, but it's worth saying, the animation here is gorgeous. I still think the first half is a bit uneventful and it could have been more interesting. But overall I really enjoyed this.

Call of the Night

Call of the Night is a relaxing vampire anime about an antisocial middle school student named Kou. One night wandering the streets, he encounters a mysterious woman named Nazuna, and she turns his world upside down. As Kou gets to know her, he discovers that she's a vampire who has lived for decades and has been searching for a special connection. Together, the two explore the city's dark and vibrant nightlife and discover a hidden world of insomniacs, vampires, and unconventional love.

Nazuna's relationship with Kou is purely transactional, so they say. She drinks his blood; he wants her to turn him into a vampire. The blood-sucking is played up to be sexual and embarrassing for Kou, and the joke never gets old. She is a very mysterious and powerful vampire who can fly and possess super strength. Her true intentions are mysterious, which makes her fascinating, but like Kou, she seems to be looking for a companion. She also acts as a mentor to Kou, teaching him about the supernatural world and helping him learn about love, vampirism, and vibing out at night.

Kou is a relatable main character by design. He's antisocial, intelligent, loves big boobs, and feels free during the nighttime. Kou frequently narrates his thoughts, typically his feelings about Nazuna and explains the reasoning behind his behaviors. It's typically apparent what he's thinking, but the way he describes his thoughts is very poetic, so I can't fault the show too much for its wordy script despite its simplistic story. Kou's character arc consists of gaining self-confidence, understanding romance, and embracing his introversion. Through Kou, the show scratches the surface of intriguing subjects like sexuality, aromanticism, and intimacy.

What is the "story" of Call of the Night? There's not much, and that's ok. The anime is practically episodic, and each one is about a problem Kou or one of his friends has that needs to be fixed. Making nighttime friends, considering the future, and contemplating romantic feelings are common. Call of the Night is an anime you watch for the vibes. It is designed to be watched on a laptop in bed at 2 am with the lights off. The writing gets dicey when you question the anime's unique supernatural logic.

The premise requires Kou to fall in love with Nazuna to achieve his dream: to become a vampire. The rules are shaky; how do you actually gauge love? Is it measurable? A thing I like about the show is how it does develop their romance, and even though the age gap is unethical, they ride the line. Obviously, the author wanted to make an age-gap romance and had to write rules to accommodate that, and the rules aren't solid, so what you get is apparent fetishes hidden in plain sight. The more the characters say, "I'm only falling in love with her because she's turning me into a vampire", the more obvious it gets. Don't look at me like that. It's a fetish. Biting, saliva, domination, do I need to spell it out for you more?

They avoid making the relationship creepy by telling the story from the young boy's perspective. He's attracted to Nazuna and tells us so with his narration, but she is only in it for his blood. Things only become a bit suspicious when she becomes jealous of him with other girls. That's when the age-gap bias in the source material pokes through, so if you can ignore a couple of weird moments, the rest is fine. It is a little contrived how they are forced to fall in love within a year, or Kou won't become a vampire. Yes. Does it make sense? Not really, no. But the ticking time bomb plot device adds a sense of urgency.

The art style is very detailed, and the backgrounds are beautiful. The characters are all very well-designed and the colors used are vibrant and eye-pleasing-such a visually distinctive galaxy purple color palette. The animation is minimal, which benefits the quality of the background art. There are a couple of fight scenes that are brief but well-animated.

The soundtrack combines calming and nostalgic mellow sounds with a relaxed, laid-back feel. It incorporates hip-hop and jazz elements and features low-tempo beats, heavily filtered instruments, and noise-based textures. There's one chill, hip-hop insert song throughout the season used frequently, but it never got old. It always fits the vibe and is a joy to the ears.

With a mix of romance, slice-of-life, and comedy, Call of the Night is a must-see for fans of vampire anime.

Please read my review before watch anime

This anime had something in it that was different from the others There was a calming quality in this anime that calmed my soul and made my day This anime attracted me because of its voice and good story I strongly request the producer to please make a continuation of this anime in any way possible, because if this anime continues, it will reach a high level.

Not only did they provide good quality voice acting and story This anime is great and recommended But please try not to watch this anime with the family Because watching this anime in front of one's family makes one feel embarrassed Thanks.

Funny and Superb Art Work

This is like a moving painting I really like the art on this anime. It doesn't have a dull moment especially when Nazuna Nanakusa is around she's very funny with her teasing and reactions. They are also slowly introducing other characters to make things more interesting which is very nice. Ko Yamori is the type of kids who is seeking adventure who wants to reach out to someone and spend time with them. Very nice anime, again amazing artwork.

For Nocturnal Souls Who Love Vibes Over Plot

The show excels in its moody, neon-lit visuals, perfectly capturing the allure of nighttime and the freedom it represents.

One of the strongest aspects is the soundtrack-even though I don't speak Japanese, the music adds so much to the show's dreamy, hypnotic vibe. The OP and ED are particularly catchy, and the background tracks enhance the emotional and action-packed moments.

Ko's aimless personality might frustrate some viewers, though his growth (or lack thereof) is part of the story's charm. Nazuna, meanwhile, is a fun and unpredictable lead, but I wish we got more backstory on her and the vampire lore.

It leaves enough unanswered questions to make me hopeful for a Season 2-here's hoping we get one!

So far, so good👍 Hope it stays good🤞

Absolutely breathtaking animation/art, one of the best I've seen. The two main characters have a cute, fun relationship and I hope something blossoms between the two.

This show is very close to perfection

I'm not a fanboy saying "perfect" to a romcom anime because I just liked the girl :D but this show is really close to being perfect.

After watching Horimiya, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, Sing Yesterday for Me and Higehiro recently I have some fresh experience to make a comparison here.

Horimiya and Rascal came on top for me but I had one major issue with both, that those strong MCs introduced in the first few episodes are just getting neglected later on and all we are left with are just some subpar side characters. *meh* I just watched till the end to know what happens with our beloved MCs, while I could not get really involved in the side characters' story *meh* (Both shows are great, don't get me wrong, I gave 8/9 for both.)

So, Call of the Night just doesn't forget about its MCs, not at all, there are new characters introduced, but the story still revolves around Nazuna and Ko mostly, which is cool. Also, not too much school life here, no cute little girls, no annoying whiny characters, the story usually happens in the night, it's a bit dark and the humor is sarcastic and adult. Nazuna's teasings are gold. The ending was a safe play, I'd say, but nonetheless, it was good and I liked how it addressed certain topics. (No spoiler intended.)

And there are other factors like the artistically beautiful presentation of the night city life, the awesome soundtrack, the retro neon vibes and the wholesome and mature script.

I've never expected to get interested in a vampire story, but here we go. :)

(The only complaint I can make is about our boy, he should have been a little bit more interesting, imho.)

Stunning, one of my fav anime of 2022

9.3/10 Absolutely stunning animation, characters, and opening. The ED is also very nice. The story is fresh and interesting; I'm not the bingeing type at all, yet I was able to for this. Nazuna (love interest) is amazing and Ko (the protag) is a great pair for her. My only real issues with the show are clichés. It falls into a few of them (one notable is a huge age gap which I don't care for). But again, it manages to stay fresh and stands out as itself. The colors are beautiful, and they really put effort into the background. Now, for the plot. Very entertaining, easy enough to follow, yet not too simplistic. I'm actually interested in the world building and wish to see more of the series. In short, I am truly happy with this show.

Not very compelling

'Call of the Night' is a fairly relaxed slice-of-life show, telling the story of the teenaged Kou and his vampiric acquaintance Nazuna.

Kou is the typical generic anime protagonist: a kind-of-nice introvert without any friends or social relations to speak of, no strong opinions on anything, and this one thing that's the plot hang-up; in this case, Kou doesn't much like the tedium of every-day life but prefers nighttime. As soon as he meets the vampiric Nazuna, his life's ambition becomes clear: he wants to turn into a vampire.

I have now watched five episodes of this show, and it hasn't managed to grip me yet. There isn't much of an overarching plot but instead an episodic format, which wouldn't be a problem if the individual stories were compelling. However, they just aren't. Kou as a protagonist is fairly boring, and Nazuna unfortunately isn't much better: in theory she is a decades-old creature of the night, but in practice she's pretty much an immature teenager with few interesting qualities.

The issue remains that Nazuna _is_ a decades-old creature of the night, and her budding romance with a teenager is, well, kind of creepy, and not in a good way.

The visuals are admittedly solid, with often gorgeous backgrounds and unique character designs. I'm not the greatest fan of the art style, but I can see why people would like it.

Ultimately, though, 'Call of the Night' just didn't manage to catch my interest. If you're a fan of slice-of-life shows, this will be your thing. I need either more complex characters or a compelling story, and this show delivered neither so far. Oh, well.

Extreme inaccuracy that goes beyond anime boundaries

As a vampire enthusiast I've personally disliked this anime, not only because of it's wrongful portrayal of vampirism, but also because many things just don't make sense. I'll keep this review spoiler-free, so I won't be giving any examples. Now, starting with the vampire portrayal, usually it's not much of a problem (vampires are fictional and everybody may understand them differently), but this anime made them seem to be so commercialized, unrealistic, to the point that the only common thing for them is to have fangs and to suck blood. Despite the vampirism factor, the story is stretched. It has one (personally, I've found him to be awfully boring and plot-armored) main character, who says absolutely nothing meaningful, yet manages to captivate everyone's minds. His line of thinking rather predictable and unsatisfying for the main character position (I could also latch onto the fact that he is a minor, whereas every single "love interest" in the show (vampires, that try to seduce him, the detective) are older than him by a mile). The main love interest has more personality, but it's still lacking, there are so many holes in her line of thinking, she's made to be perceived as "cool", "uncaring" and "captivating". Although, there's nothing more to her. The only other side of her is this "vulnerable girl, embarrassed by the topic of love", yet nothing more. I've also found the world building super boring and again, unrealistic (by that I mean unrealistic for the anime itself). Since I've decided to keep this spoiler-free, I won't go into detail, but I'll still say, that everything seems to be thrown into a mushy pile, without explanation.

On the brighter side, the animation is gorgeous and I've really enjoyed character designs, they were unique.

With that being said, I gave this anime 4 stars, because it's very lacking, yet there are a couple of good feats to it. The uneventfulness or meaningless events made it difficult to finish the 13 episodes of first season, but this experience is mine and it may not match with yours.

P. S. I'm no critic, this is very much a personal opinion. Also, English isn't my first language and there may be a few grammatical errors.

Gets interesting with each episode

I heard this anime was one of the summer surprises and decided to give it a go once it finished airing because I'm more of a binge person. Did not go into it with great expectations but ended up being pleasantly surprised.

The first few episodes start a bit slow, more of a get to know the two main characters, but if you pass them (and I recommend a little patience) it becomes pleasantly surprising. I've found the animation quite beautiful, and each new character introduced has an interesting story and background. I really hope for a season two just to see where this goes, it has lots of potential and was better than I expected, definitely a recommend.

Overall I'd say it's a 8-9, subjective of course, but i want to support a second season so I'll hit that 10 star.

I wish HIDIVE had a review/comment section like crunchyroll

My title has nothing to do with this anime 😂...anyways. If you've ever searched "chill beats" in Apple Music and listened to any of the playlists, this anime is a visual representation of the feeling you get from those. The animation itself is gorgeous, with a perfectly chosen palette of colors. The writing, voice acting, directing, and minimal action sequences are all expertly done imo. I truly hope it gets green lit for a second season. Love y'all hugs and kisses. Apparently the review needs to be 600 hundred characters and I was 129 short before writing this last part. So let's talk about...

Great Anime Movie.

There are very few things missing in the movie, but they can be fixed because the movie is only in its first season and these shortcomings can be fixed. The graphics and sound quality are very good. It's the only anime series that I don't get bored watching, and I will look forward to the new season and episodes. I hope new episodes will come as soon as possible. Midori Kohakobe is my favorite character, I hope she appears more in the new season. I like this kind of anime mostly, I hope they don't spoil the series in new seasons and don't lose their popularity. If the new season does not come out for a long time, it will be bad, the worst will be towards the middle of 2023.

suprisingly good

It's hard to say exactly what, but there's something unique about it. Will you like it? You have to give it a watch. If the vibes, characters, and dialogues grab you, the series will hook you, and you'll binge it to the end in no time.

It grabbed me and left me with that wonderful, classic question after a good book, movie, or series: "And... now what?" So now I'm looking for something even remotely similar...

One of the best anime ever

I never thought I would be rooting for characters in a teenage vampire rom com anime. Yet, here I am. Ko, Nazuna, various friends, frenemies, and random side characters are well written and never fall into the lowest common denominator tropes. We develop emotional attachment to each character as flawed beings with human desires, all while laughing out loud at their antics.

Slightly on the spectrum Ko combined with the visceral and naughty Nazuna is just genius.

I am on the fence about a second season. This was a journey of self discovery, rebellion, and consequences. It may not be as fresh as season one. Ah, who am I kidding. I am definitely watching it if they make another.

Better to Sleep/ or no?

I'd had my eye on this anime for a while, and finally decided to watch it.

What can I say - this is one of those cases where the side characters are way more interesting in every possible way than the two main ones. Kou Yamori and Nazuna Nanakusa aren't bad by themselves, but the supporting cast is just top-tier - like the detective Anko Uguisu, Kou's friend, and the other vampires. I'm not even sure if that's a good thing or not for this case.

Overall, the title's pretty cool, it's got its own unique vibe, and it's an easy watch. The art is great, though the music could've been better to match the atmosphere - that part fell a bit short.

And yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm satisfied. I wouldn't say it's the best anime I've ever seen, but it's definitely a good one.

Hopefully there'll be a season 3 - if it comes out, that'd be great.

Date of watching: 9.11.2025 - 13.11.2025

5,5/10.

Lofi meets anime and vampires

"Call of the Night" is a visual feast! The art style is so unique, blending vibrant colors with a cool, lo-fi aesthetic. Every frame feels like a piece of art, and the nighttime cityscapes are absolutely mesmerizing. It's a show that truly understands how to use visuals to create a mood.

Tome the show has everything it is calm yet exciting it has likable characters, vibrant colors, and a cute love story this is my favorite anime from the past few years.

Whenever I need to calm down, this is my go to anime. I know it doesn't get all the love it should have gotten, and it somehow slipped past a lot of people.

It's definitely worth giving a shot and hate it has vampires, which is always a plus.

Eternal Nights and Endless Emotions

Just finished Yofukashi no Uta and I'm still under its spell! The animation is stunning, with vibrant colors and beautiful character designs. Ko and Nazuna's complex relationship had me invested from the start. Nazuna is hands-down the best girl - her sassiness, vulnerability, and unwavering dedication to Ko make her an absolute standout. I loved how the anime explores themes of love, loss, and self-discovery, all set to an amazing soundtrack. The supporting characters add depth and humor. I'm eagerly awaiting season 2! If you're looking for an emotional and captivating anime, look no further. Be prepared to be hooked!

Under the radar gem

Not a big fan of romantic comedy, but this one is a gem. Well written, well developed characters,. The story is decent, it has a funky vibe. Love the music, even if I don't understand the lyrics. Ko a 14 years boy mid schooler suffering from insomnia, decides to walk the streets at night, where he meets Nazuna, a young adult girl that later turns to be a vampire. Ko bored of the same every day existence, decides to become a vampire, and enjoy the freedom of the night. In order for Ko to become a vampire, he has to fall in love with Nazuna but don't know how. And so the story begins. Will recommend to anyone who likes anime no matter the genre preference.

I was flashed by this Anime

This anime was fantastic. The visuals where great and the character development was top. I hope they will continue it for a 2nd season. After I watched this Anime I immediately bought the Manga so that I will know how this story continues. I have to say that I am usually not a fan of Romance-Shows or movies especially with vampires. But this Anime was very refreshing by it. The characters and their development felt very natural for me. To be fair, some of the characters could have deserve more screen time but that can be done with a 2nd season. It has interesting phycological aspects as well. I love it when a show or a movie have this. So please, let there be a 2nd season of "Call of the night" soon.

hilariously bad.

I've watched a bunch of anime but holy this was bad. It's trying too hard to be some artsy show, and it falls flat on it's face. I will never understand why this show gets so much recognition.

Like what even, this show has to be a parody. There's no way this was created seriously.

Skip it, it's not worth wasting your time.
