Pros- Was a refreshing approach to a black centered show about a romance story between teens. Deals with a few deep themes that teens and adults in general struggle with which was a good direction to go. Liked how realistic certain things were, especially how badly relationship problems were dealt with. The father "Eric" was truly the mvp of the show, showing the importance of having a fatherly figure that's understanding and supporting. Was great to see so many supporting people. Some viewers might dislike "Keisha's" decisions but the show does well in giving different perspectives while allowing you to understand all sides and empathize with each character. Music was also good.
Cons- A few cringeworthy moments, with a bit of inconsistency with the writing at times and repetitiveness. The plot seemed to move a bit too fast at times, causing certain events to seem a bit rushed. Certain characters seemed to have deserved a bit more consequences for their actions as well. A few really unnecessary scenes "if you know, you know"
But overall a fun watch and with the absence of drugs etc, felt refreshing for a black oriented show! P. S- ensure you're able to watch based on the rating.

As a 20 year old african american man, I felt a deep connection to this show, it definitely made me tear up a lot, we don't get to see much representation of black love these days especially on such a large platform like netflix. Shows like summer i turned pretty and maxton hall did not resonate with me at all. Anyway I enjoyed this show so much I finished it in within 1 day and felt the need to leave a review. Great acting, and the music playlist in this show??? 100/100 all songs i have on my spotify playlists. I went through similar struggles back in high school and I also had to break up due to a long distance relationship and college so this show struck me to the core. I highly recommend you watch this show.
Every once in a while, a series comes along that completely sweeps you off your feet-one that leaves you thinking about it long after the final episode ends. This love story is exactly that. Beautiful, raw, and emotionally rich, it captures the magic of young love in a way that feels authentic, relatable, and heart-meltingly sweet. From the very first episode, I was completely hooked.
There's something truly special about the way this series unfolds. The chemistry between the characters is undeniable and so naturally portrayed that you feel like you're witnessing real love in the making. It's not overly dramatic or forced-it's genuine, and that's what makes it so captivating. The storytelling is heartfelt, and every moment, from the awkward first glances to the emotionally charged confessions, is thoughtfully executed. It's like watching a poem unfold on screen.
When I say this series is a must-watch, I mean it with every fiber of my being. I stumbled upon it by chance, and I'm so incredibly glad I did. I went in with no expectations and ended up finishing the entire season in a single day. That's how gripping it is. Every episode flows into the next so seamlessly, it's almost impossible to stop watching. You'll laugh, you'll swoon, and you might even shed a tear or two.
One of the things that stood out most to me is how well the story highlights the beauty of young love-how powerful, intense, and meaningful it can be. It's a reminder that love doesn't have to be complicated or dramatic to be deeply moving. There's a kind of purity and honesty here that is often missing in mainstream romance dramas. It brings back all those butterflies, those moments of uncertainty, the sweetness of holding someone's hand for the first time-it's nostalgic in the best possible way.
And let's talk about the writing-because wow. Whoever is behind this masterpiece, I need to see more of their work. The script is thoughtful, emotionally resonant, and just so well done. There's a depth to the dialogue that makes the characters feel multidimensional, and every line serves a purpose. The story builds slowly, but with intention, drawing you deeper and deeper into the characters' world. You become invested in their journey, their growth, their happiness.
Honestly, anyone who says they didn't like this series must not have truly given it a chance-or maybe they just don't believe in love, because this story will make even the biggest skeptics soften. It's that good. It's the kind of series you want to recommend to all your friends just so you have someone to gush about it with. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
In a sea of overproduced dramas and forgettable love stories, this one stands out as a true gem. It's refreshing, it's sincere, and it's absolutely unforgettable. I can only hope this isn't the last we see of these characters-or the incredible talent behind the scenes. I would absolutely love to see more from this writer, this director, and anyone involved in making this series come to life.
So if you're looking for a show that will warm your heart, make you smile, and remind you that love-real, young, genuine love-still exists, do yourself a favor and hit play. This series is more than just a show. It's an experience.
Must-watch. Must-rewatch. Must-share.

What I like about the show is the topics relating to the current young generation like sextapes, main communication via social media, the family & social pressure, school, friends & foes. Having a 11 year old daughter with a combi of adhd & autism, starting to blossom, being a father is not easy. So, I have to prepare myself. As I am a white male from Europe it is also interesting to watch this show with mainly Afro American settings & persons with everything that comes with it. Although in Europe the black/white topic is not so much an issue as in the USA I loved the show, couldn't stop watching.
At face value, you may consider this yet another stereotypical high school romance flick but I was caught off guard by how very close to reality and far away from a fairytale it was. It had all the emotional roller coaster and the weight of actions and consequences I didn't expect. It felt a lot like realistically taping a romantic affair between any two individuals in high school.
I also want to point out how amazing the representation of the parents was, especially the family dynamics of Dawn (Karen Pitman) and Eric (Wood Harrison), how they as successful parent actually set thier kid up for success by guarding, nurturing and protecting him but still give him grace to find himself, make mistakes and do better. This is something that we don't often see in black storytelling. This is in no way disregarding the struggles of a single mother Shelly played by Xosha Roquemore raising a teenager with a community, trying to make ends meet while protecting her at the same time.
Also shout out to the judicious use of black music to literally interpret ever scene.
Overall it was a very good watch and I absolutely recommend.
