It started out ok and could have be decent and built the characters up a little, but needed more back stories. Once in the woods it could have been good, but then they just do anything to make it mysterious and confussing and plot changes. Characters change during the plot for no reason and the plot and story just do not make sense. They seem to take ideas from Blair Witch and many other found footage films. Along with a evil dead plot ideas, but not in a good way. In the end the movies is not really about the Wendigo. Could have used a stronger and solid story/writing before going to the shooting stages.
I could barely pay attention it was so boring. They got the wendigo lore wrong and didn't even try to just make a creative twist to the lore. The makeup was awful and cheesy most of the time. Occasionally it looked creepy but that didn't last long. The trail cams were so stupid in this black and white artsy style. Making the video lag or blur and freeze and then play over and over again in various scenes is the most annoying. We get it. Everything they really couldn't compensate for their budget they pretended the camera had an issue. Nobody seemed to be the main character. Dialogue was very stupid. Characters were so one dimensional I neither cared nor wished them dead. They just meant nothing at all. The wendigo itself looked incredibly awful. Like a walmart ghillie suit and a cheap halloween skull. Just a terrible movie. Awful. Don't fall for the movie poster.
I am not even sure what I was supposed to be watching. Did this have a genre you were reaching for? ... a script? ... were you and your friends just winging it? So let's start with a lot of cussing, then show a bunch of people that have nothing better to do than watch your vlog (the scene setups for those shots were lacking ... something? ... alot?).
Call me unimpressed. I hope your high school drama or theater teacher at least gave you a passing grade for the effort.
You probably pushed the boundaries of the art concept of 'suspension of disbelief' by even suggesting the main role has premium subscribers.
For the love of god, don't do this again.

Stumbling upon the 2022 movie "The Wendigo" by random chance here in 2024, and seeing it was a horror movie, of course I had to sit down and watch it. Sure, I was not familiar with the plot of the movie, though I was familiar with it being out there, I just didn't have the chance to sit down and watch it before now.
The movie wasn't off to a good start with the social media approach, as I absolutely dislike video-bloggers and all those narcissists filming themselves and calling it social media content. And that influencer character was insanely dislikable. And then the movie ventures off into questionable quality footage of people viewing the video that the influencer had streamed. This was just pathetic. So yeah, "The Wendigo" was not off to a great start.
I am amazed that the writers collectively could come up with such a dung heap as this turned out to be.
Of course I was not familiar with the actors and actresses on the cast list. I can't claim that I was impressed with what I witnessed, but truth be told then the performers had everything stacked against them, from the camera-work to this being 'found footage' rubbish.
"The Wendigo" is a hand-held shot movie, and that is truly abysmal. I dislike that a lot, especially because it feels like homemade crap that I could have filmed better myself with my digital video camera, and I can actually manage to carry a steady hand.
The camera is all over the place, since this is a hand-held 'found footage' movie. So you're not in for a grand cinematic experience here.
This is hands down a thoroughly through and through terrible movie. Needless to say that I couldn't muster the enthusiasm or will to endure 68 minutes of watching this rubbish.
My rating of director Jake Robinson's 2022 movie "The Wendigo" lands on a one out of ten stars.

I love a good found footage movie. Thing is, out of 10 found footage movies one will be watchable. Out of ten watchable ones, two will be better than fair. This is not one of those. With despicable characters and impossible occurrences combined with a slow pace this was doomed from the word go. The ONLY thing getting this a two star rating from me as opposed to a one star is the accuracy with which it portrays "influencers". Spend an hour on the cesspool that is Instagram for confirmation. With that said, there is no reason to watch this horrid, amateurish, lifeless imposter of a movie. None. Don't bother.
